<0> it has to go to India for software installation
<1> id call
<0> you'll get it in 2 weeks
<2> hi
<2> just curious, but the new intel core duos that are inside the macbook pro's .. those are 64bit chips correct? except that intel has disabled the 64bit feature and only allows 32bit mode?
<3> zomg dell support is actually helping
<4> http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/sempron_3.html
<4> AAAAAAAA!
<2> btw
<2> does anyone know about any upcoming perpendicular notebook hard disks?
<2> with hopefully better speeds ..its about time they get something new
<5> heat is the issue
<6> i am thinking about building a new computer but i have a problem, all the cases i have seen look like a piece of budget scifi ****, does anyone know of a site with good cases
<6> i was looking at the coolmaster range, or a gigabyte 3d aurora
<6> but then i feel like a mug paying for a case with no psu
<7> demo, i found this site yesterday ibuypower.com, never bought from them.. and dont know if they sell cases separately

<7> they should have ups trucks with geo tracking and its planned route so i could check on it
<6> they look like alienware knockoffs
<6> lol
<6> thanks anyways
<8> I'm getting a weird phenomenon when dealing with a particular hard drive. When I try to copy to/from it or access some media on it, the data transfer goes rather slowly and my CPU usage shoots up to 100%, slowing the system right down. no such thing happens for other drives. Any idea why this might be happening?
<9> anyone know of a decent usb tv tuner card that does good resolutions?
<10> jez: sounds like the drive is set for PIO and not DMA.
<10> Is it the Interupts process that's shooting up?
<10> It can be affected by both BIOS settings and the settings in Windows. In Device Manager, check out the IDE channel's properties.
<8> i've got some weird readings under drive hardware.
<8> i do have a board that supports 2 SATA devices which i have connected
<8> but still
<8> it's saying I have 2 devices on "0 (secondary ATA)" and 2 devices on "0 (primary)"
<8> how can i have 2 devices on both, mad
<11> hi
<11> i just got ripped off by newegg
<12> you mean you bought something from newegg and now found a better price elseware?
<11> i bought corsair 1gb hard drive on tuesday and it said 46.81
<11> when i bought it, it said 50.99
<11> on the site, it said if i bought more stuff that it will reduce the shipping
<11> i thought the 50.99 came from the 4.81 shipping but i was wrong
<11> bought 5 items
<6> may sound mad but is radion xpress 200 the latest ati mobo chipset?
<11> sodimm, flash drive, and mouse don't weight much and each one should be 4.81 shipping
<11> that's so bogus
<11> should i call them back and talk to someone
<8> Hoe``: no i dont believe it is the interrupts process
<11> when do they usually change prices on their website
<12> over $4?
<12> gosh man
<8> in fact i dont see an interrupts process
<8> ?
<11> they have the flash drive for 43.25 now
<11> over $8
<11> plus the shipping cost
<11> i know shipping don't cost that much
<11> especially for those small items
<12> email them if you're so irked about it
<12> probably a very rational explanation
<12> the shipping price should be laid out separately
<11> 4.81, u could fit a simm and flash drive in a small box
<11> it does depends on how big the box is
<13> what do you think is an acceptable weight for a laptop?
<14> do you think I should get a pentium d 820 emt64 viiv @2.8 ghz, pc2 4200 memory @533mhz and bus=800mhz,....or a single core athlon 64 with 2000mhz bus speed and 400 mhz memory, i dont know what to do here
<14> and does linux support the pentium d 820 emt64 viiv and the intel chipset
<10> jez: It may not show as interupts in the standards windows process viewer, but in sysinternals.com's Process Explorer it will.
<10> AinSoph: I, and lots of others here, are AMD fanboys, but ultimately it may rest on what you intend to use the processor for.
<14> what would i be better off with, cuz the dual core pentium 64 is cheaper than the dual core athlon but i dont have enough to afford the dual core athlon
<14> oh trust me, i would rather have amd and ati anyday
<10> Hyperthreading != dual core.
<14> this is not a hyperthreading processor it is a dual core pentium
<10> Ahh.
<10> That is reasonably priced.
<14> I wanna use it for gaming, movies (.avi formats, divx xvid .mpg dvd, etc) and to develop software
<14> do you think i should spring for the pentium dual core instead of the single core athlon
<14> and does linux support this chip and chipset, or is linux more supportive in general of amd products
<10> Is that an athlon 3200+/socket 939?
<14> ahtlon 3700+
<14> 939
<12> there's going to be a huge amount of development for SMP enabled software in the coming months - years..so I'd definitely recommend an environment to develop those products in well
<14> i just wanna know if I will be able to run a 64 bit linux version on this chip

<10> What I'm seeing they're all 1ghz bus.
<14> RogerRabb, so you think i should go for the dual core pentium d emt64
<14> 800mhz bus for this chipset
<12> either intel or amd..doesn't matter..just needs to be dual core
<12> go for whatever is in your budget
<15> Hello, ppl im going to start up a website about hardware. but I cant fine a name for it. do any of you know a good name?
<12> in the end, I'm not the one who's going to be using it..you are
<10> http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=145&type=expert&pid=5 (the intel chip there is a 2.4ghz)
<15> Hello, ppl im going to start up a website about hardware. but I cant fine a name for it. do any of you know a good name?
<10> err, the 820 on thouse benches is a 2.8ghz
<12> what will you offer that other hardware sites don't already goolux?
<15> Hmm..
<15> Dont know..
<12> ..don't worry about a name..get the plan for what it will be, and offer, and how it'll do that...your business model
<12> get those things sorted before you need to worry about a name
<14> well as far as overall performance do you think the dual core pentium d is a better solution than the single core athlon 64?
<16> dout it
<16> lol
<16> i like p4's better myself
<14> arent pentium d's basically a dual core pentium 4
<16> it prolly depends on what your using it for... but i cannot make any judgement eather way
<10> I'm personally waiting for AM2 before I build a new box.
<12> am2 will be interesting..but I don't think I'll hop over to it right away
<10> I'm going to wait for the New Hardware Tax to wear off.
<12> I think a 4400+ would do me for a few years to be honest
<10> I'm currently running a 3000+/754, so I'm good in the processor department, but I want to upgrade my video card from a 9600XT to a nice PCI-E one.
<12> yep I do like pci-e quite a lot
<12> it's backwards compatibility is a great idea
<12> its*
<8> Yipe... just put one of my hard drives from PIO mode to UDMA100, and my system soonafter just restarted suddenly. not sure if it was causal but it seems like a heck of a co-incidence
<10> A problem is that I've got PCI cards out the ***. Some I'm not exactly willing to replace.
<8> I've now forced the dodgy drive to run at UDMA/33, I'll see if that's stable
<8> But it should support at least UDMA/100
<12> it's a very slow transition
<12> a little too slow for pci card manufacturers as far as I'm concerned
<10> Are software RAIDs normally supported board to board? As in, will my RAID from the onboard controller of my k8v work in a newer board?
<12> I mean..I want more reason to upgrade, not less
<12> onboard controllers aren't usually software..
<12> they're 'fake raid' mostly
<10> RogerRabb: I'm not overly interested in replacing my 90$ sound card and 130$ video capture card.
<10> RogerRabb: Fake RAID?
<12> which means the hardware initalizes the array and such..but the processor handles the work
<12> instead of say a dedicated raid card
<10> Do you believe it will work between raid chips?
<12> nope I personally don't think it will
<12> but..cross fingers and pray?
<10> 250gbx2 RAID0 is some thing sort of hard to give up. I better just make a bigger one with my new box and transfer the files over, then redo the old disks :P
<12> turn old pc into a file server
<12> and connect them with a gigabit connection
<10> I never liked that idea.
<12> why is that?
<7> -= oh ups guy, where are thy, bring me my stuff, or else =-
<10> Between electricial usage, access latency, and other general things, it just never seemed proper for a home setup.
<17> i turn mine on only when i need to xfer files
<12> yeah..more power could be a problem..if you don't like bills..access latency is so nothing.. 20u seconds to request a directory listing
<12> and like gosh, at work we only use a 100mbit connection, but accessing our samba server is faster than accessing bloody local drives
<10> I suppose it just feels like a waste of hardware. It would be nice to have a seperate box run the ICS and store all of the files, but it dosn't feel practical. I've got all the money in the world to waist, but I'm farely conservitive.
<12> I've got 4 computers at home at the moment
<12> 3 are run 24/7
<12> I do notice the extra on my power bill
<10> Ya, I've got 2 boxes that run 24/7, and one that runs most of the time.
<12> distributed computing is getting better and better I think
<10> The main CPU intensive thing that I run are games, which I don't play that often. I never build large source bases, and I do do a decent amount of video editing, but the stuff I work with is always so small it dosn't matter.
<12> yep
<12> I like it from the organisational standpoint
<10> Organize? Pfft. I've got 7 hard drives, 8 partitions all mounted seperately, and not a single one of them is organized :P
<12> yep..I've got umm a lot of drives
<12> and yeah..they're all unorganised
<12> I hate having to structure my files..I don't think I should have to do it
<12> my os should be bloody smart enough to do it for me
<10> I Believe that's one of the ideas with winfs.
<10> Being able to address files in a manor not fully related to the file system's native way.
<12> I'm not sure winfs is going to organise my stuff..more just chuck on sql server yukon ontop
<12> so I can 'tag' a group of files with something
