<0> some manufacturers of hdds use proprietary screws
<0> not standard hex or star ****.
<0> so you may need to drill those
<1> oh i c
<0> I ***ume you have a decent hand drill or dremel or drill press (best of all) or something?
<1> no .. .
<1> i just have a 10 tool kit i got from comp usa
<0> ..no hand drill..? :|
<1> u mean a screwdriver?
<0> no
<1> is that a hand drill?
<0> I mean a motorized hand drill.
<1> no.
<0> pull trigger, spinny spinny
<1> everything is manual
<0> :|

<0> this is why woodshop cl*** or SOMETHING should be mandatory for graduating highschool :|
<1> i did take one of those cl***es
<1> but it didn't help me at all
<1> felt like a waste of time
<0> did you fail it?
<1> no, i p***ed
<0> heh
<0> this is why kids should work jobs where you either finish sawing and drilling by the end of the work day, or you keep going until its done :x
<0> teaches you so many valuable lessons
<1> yes, i think george carlin would agree with you
<1> a real man should be handy
<0> heh
<0> well you know
<0> as men
<0> (atleats, your purportedly a man)
<0> atleast*
<2> rukk can u port some apps for me? linux->windows ? ;)
<0> we have no say in this matter ;x
<0> bj0rn: I think not.
<2> if u dont have anything better todo... ;)
<0> hah
<3> :|
<0> I have far too much to do
<3> "a real man"
<3> haha
<2> what if i share all the dirty pics if i find any? :P
<0> so Jen: should a real man be "handy"? :p
<3> yes
<0> how handy? ;x
<3> very
<2> pipes n stuff..
<0> pipes != handy
<2> i can change a lightbulb and..uhm make dinner...is that handy?
<3> no
<3> fix my car
<0> pipes are like.. take it apart, make sure its got its teflon tape on there, put it back on :\
<2> i can do that..
<2> just send it to me :P
<2> rukk teflon ****s! use Hemp ;D
<0> for sealing pipe fittings?
<2> yes sir
<2> i have some hemp here..
<0> this is interesting. I will look into it.
<2> good old days ;)
<2> ppl dont use it anymore..just teflon ;(
<0> however, for plumbing jobs, I usualy use whatever is CHEAPEST ;x
<2> well hemp is dirt cheap so! ;D
<2> hmm..is there a way to..uhm have a device uhm using 2 drivers? or a easy way to change between them? :)
<2> wee! cool the BTscanner tool worked :D
<0> bj0rn: i have NO clue under windows
<2> arrgh
<0> under linux I'd just write a bash script and it'd happen
<0> but..
<2> cus this tool cant send Biz.Cards and stuff, but the other BT app. i have can...but tool dsnt wrk with the drivers..only windows drivers...
<4> hi, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with monitors? I recently bought a 2nd hand monitor and when I plug it in, the power seems to go on and off.. like flickering. Anyonw know what could be causing this?
<5> I'm reading about flashing the Radeon 9550 bios to 9600 PRO since it's the same chip, but in the tutorial and the bios list on techpowerup.com, it mentions Samsung 4.0/5.0 etc memory. what is the 4.0/5.0 ?
<0> a nanosecond rating
<0> its basicaly the manufacturer's way of rating the speed that the chip can operate at (optimally)
<5> rukk: so I'm pretty sure my card has samsung 5.0, if it turns out that it doesn't will I fry my video card?
<0> no
<5> :)

<0> you wont fry anything either way.
<0> samsung 5.0 would be slower than 4.0
<0> 5ns is 200mhz DDR, meaning 400mhz
<0> 4ns is 250mhz DDR, meaning 500mhz
<0> the samsung tends to overclock better than the other stuff they put on that series of cards though
<0> or atleast hold its timings better.
<5> another question - my card didn't come with a fan on the heatsink; the default core/mem speeds are 250/200, to use the defaults of a 9600 card with say 375/250 would I need to install a fan, or should the heatsink be ok?
<0> you'll want a fan.
<0> preferably bowing over the memory as well
<0> get a nice big quiet 80 or 92mm fan and stick it in there :)
<0> also
<0> you could try pulling off the GPU heatsink and applying some thermal paste to the core
<0> that'll help out a bit.
<5> is the heatsink pretty easy to get back on? I don't see any clips; it appears to be glued on ??
<0> oh
<0> blech
<0> you should really just plain replace it then
<0> I'd look at a arctic silencer if I was you
<5> overclocking isn't a big deal for me though as it works fine for the games that I do play, I just want the card to be detected as 9600 with hopes that it would actually work with os x86. I can put the 9600 pro bios on and just set the clock speeds to the 9550's settings right?
<0> reasonably cheap, quiet, and very good.
<0> sure
<0> ***uming you can get it into windows
<0> or you can modify the bios to auto load the card with the slower clocks
<0> or, slower clocks
<5> well on the techpowerup site you can download the bios with the clock speeds modified already, you just type it into a textbox
<0> well there you go
<0> do so!
<0> however
<0> make sure you make a backup of your original bios before you do ANYTHING
<0> and have a PCI video card on hand so you can reflash it should something screw up
<0> that way your totally failsafe
<5> yeah i already made the backup of the bios.. no pci video card though. can I just make a boot disk with the autoexec bat to reflash the bios without having to be able to see the screen?
<0> yep
<0> sure
<5> sweet, i'm gonna go try this out then. so if i can't find any samsung 5.0 bios' can I use a 4.0 without problems?
<5> .
<0> well
<0> check your card first off
<0> no reason not to use the 4ns bios if you can.
<0> to check, just lemme know what it says on the memory chips :)
<5> Samsung K4D551638F-TC50
<0> TC50 is 5ns
<0> if you feel like soldering a potentiometer on there, it'd probably do 250mhz (4ns) with a bit more voltage
<5> oh no that's a bit too risky for me.. I don't really need any performance increase, I'm trying to install mac os x86 and it's not detecting my card properly, (4153 part number or whatever) but I notice 4152 (which i read is 9600's #) is in the .kext for the radeon stuff
<0> oh, hmm
<0> theres gotta be a simpler fix :\
<0> but if you can modify the clocks for the bios easily
<0> just put them at stock
<0> and load that ****er up :)
<5> well it's working, the only thing is that it's not detecting that Quartz Extreme and Core Image acceleration is supported, which it should be.. idunno, if it works, that's good, and if not, i'll have a 9600 Pro card and learn a thing or two so it's win/win
<0> yep :)
<0> definetly go for it
<0> good attitude ;x
<2> :D
<5> well i got the bios all ready to go, hopefully it'll work. thanks a lot for the help i appreciate it
<5> thanks again, see ya!
<0> :)
<5> rukk... so, I changed the bios but when I rebooted, the textmode stuff in the POST was being drawn out really slowly, like maybe 5 seconds per line .. any idea why the video would be running slow like that?
<0> yeah, your pushing it too hard.
<0> clockspeeds too high, not enough voltage.
<0> so its erroring.
<5> but I manually changed the clockspeed to 200/250.. i think .. hmm maybe i'll try it out again
<0> oh
<0> hrm
<0> maybe its a timings thing
<5> the clockspeeds are actually 200/197.5 or something like that currently, do you think it could be that 2.5 extra that's doing it?
<0> no
<0> hah
<5> maybe I'll try a different mfg's bios out and see if that was the problem
<0> yep
<0> try a few.
<5> k, hopefully i won't be back bugging you again ! thanks again
