<1> I really don't like the idea of running an ms product as the base layer :/
<0> win2k3 kernel is pretty stable
<0> v stable really
<1> it's not about stability, it's about a sense of security
<0> oh i see are the paranoids out to get you ? :O)
<0> i am teasing you RogerRabb
<0> :O)
<1> you've got a bit of a condescending attitude..what's with that?
<0> i hate people basically
<0> :O)
<0> i try not to be prejudice
<0> so i hate everyone equally
<0> :O)
<1> so you must be a masochist as well, helping out in a channel with people?
<0> lol

<0> im a glutton for punishment
<1> hehe, seems so
<0> either way no offense intended
<1> don't worry, I don't usually get worked up by people on the net, unless they start insulting my mother, of course :)
<0> thats a line i have too
<1> http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=21450
<1> that's more like what I was looking for
<2> vanderpoo
<2> hehe
<3> hi. I got a lite-on sohw-832S dvd-burner but it only burns good with ricoh jpnr03 media. every other media writes good to 80 percent and then the last part of the disc is troublesome. I really don't understand it anymore :( anyone has the same experiences ?
<0> dvdstress 2 things theres a util fo all the mdia you want to use
<3> yeah ?
<0> #2 are you running the current firmware ?
<0> sec for url
<3> I did
<3> I even used codemasters patched firmwares
<3> all firmwares have the same problems
<3> at first I thought theres alot of bad media around, but I'm now starting to think my writer is very very picky
<0> http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_utility.htm try out the smart burn media check app yet ?
<0> This SMART-BURN utility will help you to verify the information of the media you are using, such as the brand, the types ( CD-R / RW, DVD-R / RW, DVD+R / RW ), speed limit...etc
<0> http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/Zip/smartburn_E.pdf full details
<2> man
<3> OK thanks I will download and read and try it out
<0> zip to lose
<0> gl
<2> the x1900s go on sale in 10 minutes
<0> ill wait till version 2
<0> :O)
<2> going to be cheaper than the gtx 512s and maybe faster
<2> im waiting on g71
<2> in march
<2> unfortunately my upgrade deal with eVGA will be gone
<2> i ordered a 7800gt december 26th
<2> the 512 gtxs will probably be nonexistant before long
<0> the one with the free mobo ?
<4> wow 5 days and my order is still in the "packed" status at zipzoomfly
<2> well im going to bed
<3> trainsz: for the disc I now used to burn (another brand that gives lotsa trouble at the end of the discs) it says: Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
<3> Manufacturer Maybe = CMC Magnetics Corporation
<3> SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 8.0X (Write)
<3> I even burned with 2.4
<3> it didn't help
<3> I also tried 8x ofcourse
<5> hey all i'm having a bit of a problemo :(
<5> i've gone and replaced the cpu fan of my ooold athlon tbird
<5> had no problems swapping the fans out n all
<5> but when I turn on the PC it goes on....then immediately shuts off a second later
<5> i don't get to the video bios screen at all
<5> it just..powers on...then powers off
<3> did you rock the cpu in its socked maybe ?
<5> not that i know of
<5> the cpu is in there pretty firm
<3> is it a ziff-socket ?
<3> the one with a metal leaver
<5> yea
<3> ok then when power cable is out of the power supply
<3> try lifting the leaver
<3> then gently lift the cpu and lower it evenly again
<3> and then lower the leaver again
<3> probably one of the clamps of the cpu cooler rocks the cpu in an angled position so that some of its pins aren't inside the white plastic socket its holes
<5> that'd require me to pop off the heatsink though

<5> would that fry it?
<3> NOOOOOOOOO you mustn't turn it on b4 replacing the cooler !
<5> well i know that
<5> i mean if the cpu was angled wrong
<3> its just to check if the cpu is tilted out of its socket because of the preasure of the clamps of the cpu cooler
<5> the cooler is on REALLY tight...
<3> OOPS hope it didn't crush the cpu
<5> ...
<3> did you buy a new cooler and wanted to place that one ?
<5> yea
<5> the ball bearings wore out on the old one
<3> OK
<3> I see
<3> ehm
<5> this new cooler though is meant for the same socket
<3> OK
<5> i made sure of that ;)
<3> but I get a sense that the clamping onto the cpu was TOO tight ?
<3> did you apply much force ?
<5> i don't tbelive so
<3> cause you said its really tight
<3> on pentium4 motherboards there's a second power connector (square)
<3> don't know if AMD has it too
<3> but didn't you forget to reconnect that cable?
<5> nope this one doesn't have that
<3> OK
<3> has your videocard been removed ?
<3> then maybe its not evenly sitting in its slot
<3> I still recommend (after disconnecting power cable!) to remove the cooler and take the cpu out and put it back in the same way (open and close the leaver ofcourse) and replace the cpucooler
<3> the cpu might be tilted to one side a bit (and then pins can be out of their holes)
<5> :-\
<5> nope
<5> I just did that
<5> didn't fix the issue...
<3> OK :(
<5> really hope i didn't mess up my machine
<3> hope your cpu hasn't died
<5> it's my linux mail server :-\
<3> :(
<5> if the thing would just beep at me
<5> or do something other than auto shut off
<3> btw linux is easely transported onto another motherboard without reconfiguring
<3> how long does it stay on?
<5> it is but new mobo + new cpu = ****ty
<5> about a second
<3> and now image ?
<3> no
<3> no image ?
<5> the monitor gets a quick signal but never displays a video bios screen
<3> ok it gets not time enough
<3> to come out of sleep mode
<5> would a fried cpu do that?
<5> yea
<3> ehm well if the pc turns off very quickly it could be the cpu
<3> when you replaced the cooler did you disconnect cards and wires ?
<5> yea
<5> had to
<3> inside the pc I mean
<5> the new cooler required me to add brackets to the motherboard
<5> requiring me to pull the whole thing out (Pain in the ***)
<3> on the backside ?
<3> ooooops
<5> yea
<3> hope it doesn't make contact to the back plate!
<5> ??
<6> ??[x]: Usage: ?? <word> [> nick]
<3> it needs to be isolated from it
<5> what do you mean by back plate?
<5> the case?
<5> nah on the backside of the board it's just 2 screws
<5> they don't touch the case
<3> there are metal soldered points on the backside of the motherboard and theres a few plastic torqs that make the motherboard lifted of the backplate so that the metal soldered spots don't connect to the metal backside plate
<3> yeah plate that the motherboard rests on
<3> so you're sure that the soldered points aren't touching the metal plate under the motherboard ?
