<0> Is 12ms response time on an LCD OK for games? <1> Whats a good 17 " LCD monitor with DVI inputs? <2> yes <3> yes <2> i have a 16ms and it does fine <3> i just bought a new LCD myself <3> 12ms response <2> what kind <3> LG <2> the only ghosting on my 16ms lcd is when i move windows with my mouse in xp... but for games, absolutely none is noticeable <4> Krilly, unless you were born with the eyes of a bird of prey, you won't have problems gaming on any new LCD unless it's totally bargain basement. <3> 19" LCD Flatscreen running on the DVI cable :) <3> and I also got another gig of ram so its 2Gig Ram Dual channel <3> but then again my video card is an NVidia Geforce 5200FX Agp with 256MB Ram <5> amazing what boredom and reading forum posts bout misc hardware issues can do to solve ones own nagging problems... <5> finally got my onboard geforce 6150 gfx turned off completely on gaming rig
<5> 3370 in 3dmark06... :| <3> Anyways maybe someone here will know, I just put a new HD in my dads comp because it was failing, and I started the HP Recovery because I couldnt do a Disk to disk copy without it erroring out. It didnt give the option for what disk to write to (like it normally does) does this mean it found the other drive and is writing to it ? <5> doing a recovery would recover the failed disk.. not the new one :| <5> if a disk failed its the new disk you install on <3> i know u install on the new one (common sense) <3> but its HP and the recovery is comming off the bad disk <3> they dont know how to provide CDs for free ! (or allow u to make copies!) and this PC wasnt part of the lawsuit :( <3> what does a PC with over 300 GB HD space (2 SATA drivers), 2gig Dual Channel Ram, 5.1 Surround sound and dual monitors (one analong, one digital) sound like, a gaming PC or a programming station ? <5> just go and DL some windows copy then :P <5> sounds like the average desktop pc :) <3> he dont want that, though if i wanna wait for delivery, i can get xp pro for 15 bux <5> 15bux... has to be a DLed version anyways then <3> NO <3> it legal MS copy <5> not for 15 bux.. thats impossible <3> no its MSNDAA <5> then its xp pro lite or some **** and useless <3> no <3> its the fullblown <5> wait for delivery then <3> MSDNAA Microsoft Developer Network Academic Allience <5> alliance <3> Im a CIS student in college so i get it cheap <3> ok so i misspelled, whatever <5> no biggie :P <3> I get VS 2003 for 20 bux <5> wait for delivery or DL one <5> if MS finds out and sue's you... blame the dlivery guy :D <3> my xp cd broke so im running sever2k3 :) <5> delivery* <3> and ms GAVE ME 2k3R2 for free :) <3> ok, maybe i patched it so it wouldnt timebomb on me, but i activated it first :) so i get all the updates <5> i just Dled one.. <5> and i get all updates too heh <3> I download it from MS <3> directly <3> and got my own Product Key :) <5> i got my own xp pro product key as well... but its a DK one i prefer UK <3> ah I have a xp key of my own US <3> I also have a copy of XP PRO 64 bit that i cant use :( <3> it came with my 15 dollar copy of xp pro <5> no 64bit cpu ? :P <3> no, im still 32 bit <3> but thats ok cuz im trying to learn asm ;) <3> I wonder howlong gentoo would take to compile on this system ? <3> now that I have 2gig ram <3> Is there any other mode for dual channel besides linear ? Im running 4 sticks of 512 which is being reported as dual-channel linear mode. <2> i dont think so ml why <3> just wondering, figured hell maybe if theres a linear mode maybe the other is digital. lol. <3> anything for more speed <3> you know us kids, we like speed and optimizations <2> yeah <2> OS: WinXP Professional 5.1 Service Pack 2 (Build #2600) CPU: Intel Pentium 4 , 3.39 GHz Video: Dell E193FP on nVidia GeForce 7800 GT (1280x1024x32bpp 60Hz) Sound: SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [C8C0] Memory: Used: 440/2047MB Uptime: 4d 22h 49m 18s HD: [C:] 97.19/148.99 GB Connection: @ 0 bps (Rec: 0.00MB Sent: 0.00MB) <2> anyone here from mississippi <6> Could you lot give me some ideas as to the best way to buy a new computer case? I really want one that's got everything - good cooling, sound insulation, and is well laid out so I can easily access components. However it's very difficult top tell if a case has this via a website - isn't it better to be able to look at it in person? <2> hmm <2> read the reviews <2> and dont use the psus that come with the case <2> they only work for abotu a year if that long and they burn out <6> yeah i have a decent PSU in this one <6> but it's really badly designed, i can barely install a new drive wihout scraping the motherboard
<2> ? <6> yeah <4> i love my lian li. <2> im looking at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?Image=11-190-056-01.jpg&CurImage=11-190-056-01.jpg&Description= <6> the drives are too close to the motherboard <4> you can pretty much count on excellence with lian-li. <4> :D <2> lian-li is expensive <2> tho <4> well, yeah. <6> sound insulation? <4> my pc-60 I paid good money for 3 years ago. I don't think I'll replace it until i'm forced to. <4> One of the best investments i've made on my machine <2> hmm <6> but aren't there several good case manufacturers? <6> and how did you choose which case to buy? there are thousands out there. <4> jez - i dunno, never judged it for noise. My stuff is generally quiet. <2> jez: the branded cases are usually expensive <2> and theres some good lower priced ones <6> yeah but i'd rather not be panning randomly for gold <6> i want to know what im buying is good <4> read some threads on anandtech or something <2> just read buyers opinions <2> they pretty much tell you <4> i'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of discussions that would answer some of your questions, or at least give you an idea of a particular case that has pleased many people. <4> reader reviews on cheap cases on newegg though can be misleading. a lot of times people will justify a mediocre product either because its so cheap or they never really had high expectations in the first place <6> quite. <4> someone going as cheap as possible will usually be pleased with something someone demanding quality wouldn't accept. <2> true <2> usually make sure it has a tons of ratings <6> also i live in the UK so places like newegg are out of bounds for me <2> that case i posted should be good <2> most steel cases have flexy sides so mainly go with plastic ones <6> plastic? hm <6> bad for cooling and noise isnt it? <2> vinyl rather <2> hmm <2> or plastic and vinyl same thing <2> really <2> if u want a quiet computer, get quiet fans <6> i find a case can make en enormous difference in noise, though <2> i myself dont care how loud it is because i have a fan on in my room all the time that is louder than my computer so it doesnt matte <2> r <6> some of them resonate badly <2> yeah <6> hmm <2> the ones that are like that you have to make sure its getting good air to it though because if sound cant leave neither can hot air <4> i wouldn't say my lian li resonates noise <4> it just humms quietly with all my stuff. <6> what about its layout? <4> i have my pc to the side, under my desk, on a woodeen crate <4> oh it's fabulous <6> IDE device placement is particularly bad in many cases <4> sliding motherboard tray <4> sliding drive tray <6> like, not close enough to the damn ATA slots <4> all thumbscrews <4> rounded edges <4> pops apart in seconds <6> price? <4> I paid $100 USD for this 3 years ago <6> hmmm <4> the PC-60 is about $100 usd or so <4> it's a simple model, nothing too fancy, but it does the job <2> hmm <4> it also looks statley and professional <6> what kinda hard drives are in your machine? <2> not too bad <4> i have 1 WD raptor and 2 older IDE maxtors I use for ripping/storage <4> the raptor is my OS/gaming drive. :D <4> the raptor is in the 3.5 inch bay where the FDDs can go <4> the maxtors are in the lower sliding drive tray <4> what I like about this case mainly is the sliding mobo tray, sliding drive cage, and the air filter that pops off for easy cleaning <6> what about the drive placement
