<0> hot.
<1> indeed
<2> with ADSL is there a set "range" that connection speed can be ? so if it cant do the specified speed it jumps down a notch on the scale ?
<3> hello. are there modems that can receieve fax and be used as answering machine while the computer is turned off?
<4> Yes, they're called fax machines.
<4> Sorry for the non-help help, but I think that's the anwser :P
<5> wow
<5> hrm.
<3> Hoe` it isn't. fax machines have ****ty printers, expensive cost per print, and you can't transfer faxes on computer
<3> I could have swear i saw fax modems with built in answering machine few years ago
<4> jeboo: I agree.
<4> But computer's are a pain to send a fax from.
<3> not really, sending is easy if you have document in computer. after installing proper software you can go to print and chose fax machine instead of a real printer
<3> from any program
<4> The printer I bought for the office takes generic black tanks at 2$ a pop. The fax machine takes ribbons, which I purchase generic and spooless versions of, at 6 for 45$, and they print like ****.
<4> Oh, you can print to fax? Never noticed that :)
<4> Oh ya, there she is :P
<3> yep, did it years ago. winfax was the program's name IIRC. there's prolly something better today
<3> so with such a modem I wouldn't need a fax machine.
<4> 'eh, still. I normaly send a cover sheet, 2 signed documents (would need to scan), an estimate, and an invoice, all of which came from differnt software or didn't originate on the computer, so I doubt that it would be overly helpful to me.
<4> Can you do wake on fax?
<3> yes scanning would ****. but I usually send documents that I already have in computer
<3> so with real fax I would need to print it first, then fax it
<3> yeah but you would miss first (few?) calls
<3> i know i can have computer play fax machine, but dont like the idea of having it on 24/7. and it wouldn't be as reliable
<3> US Robotics - 56K Professional Message Modem
<3> that seems to be what I'm looking for
<6> hey
<6> i have one
<6> i think its a ur
<7> can someone help me
<7> my horse went throug a meat grinder

<8> Hey all !
<8> i installed my new vga cooler :)
<8> Zalman VF700-AIcu
<8> only 30 euro !
<1> cool
<8> i only took 45min to install the cooler :P
<1> hehe
<8> wish i bought this1 sooner, its REALLY quiet
<9> just wait until it starts clogging up with dust
<8> i dont mind, its very easy to clean
<10> I built a system with a Thermaletake Damier V in it
<10> the fans had filters on them

<10> was a good idea
<8> doesnt that make the fans go slower?
<4> klaasjans: Dust and hair does, too :P
<4> One **** gets wrapped around the center, they're done for.
<4> Filterless systems I normaly replace the fans in once per year.
<11> hah hair dose
<11> er does
<11> what ever funny stuff my fans dont die in one year from dust
<11> but i dont buy cheap fans
<12> man, I have fans that still work after 5-6 years of 24/7 use
<12> and they don't get that dusty
<12> get an air purifier and vaccum more frequently. :D
<12> intake filters on the front of the case help a lot, too.
<4> I wounder if any one has been silly enough to filter the out fans. Essentialy, keeping the dust in the case.
<13> Heh, i might sound kinda silly with this question but can i.. tape a fan to a cpu?
<13> Its a little too big for the screws to fit.
<14> anyone have any links or suggested reading about best UPS setups?
<15> Opened up a laptop that, amongst many problems, seems to have a heatproblem. The cpu doesn't have the normal paste/pads for moving heat from the cpu to the fan contraption. It seems it has pads (some kind of plastic/rubber) that are glued to the cpu but flat and a little "shiny" on the top. Anybody seen something like that? I am wondering if it would help if I put some termic glue or something on top of the pads to make sure it fits together and ...
<15> ... dissipates heat better than before.
<15> There are two colored areas on top of the pads that could be old glue that has just dried out
<16> prehaps someone can be of ***istance in here
<17> but i doubt it
<17> AT APPROXIMATELY 6:12AM this morning
<17> my computer started making this loud beeping noise
<17> it was like a high beep, then a low beep, then a pause
<17> and it kept repeating until i turned the computer off
<17> anyone have any idea of what component could have been making that noise?
<9> check your fans, sounds like an overheat alarm
<17> thats what i was thinking
<17> sounded like maybe it could have been the radiator fan
<17> i dont know...
<15> Fidelity_: your bios probably shows your temp., so I guess I would check that next time. Make sure the warning levels for temps are set appropriatly
<17> AH
<17> found it
<17> the high temp alarm in MBM5 for my gpu core and ambient was set to 70c
<17> and since i turn the radiator fan down at night
<17> it probably heated up enough to trigger the alarm
<17> ill just raise that to 100
<15> Fidelity_: isn't that a little high?
<15> Fidelity_: well, depends on your cpu
<17> ehhh
<17> for the gpu?
<17> nah...
<15> oh, gpu
<15> sorry, misread
<17> hehe
<15> Don't know what a normal temp. is for a gpu.
<17> it shuts down at 135
<17> so 100 should be fine
<15> Fidelity_: but then we could actually help you ;)
<17> :(
<17> lol
<15> *poff*
<17> poff
<1> poop
<17> popf
<18> hi guys
