<0> to see how hot its getting? <1> http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=nf4ul-a9 <1> vrm? <1> video card was reporting 60 degrees & ambient 42 degrees <1> don't have a program for cpu temp atm cause I don't know what works with this motherboard yet <0> voltage regulation module. <0> looks from the pic like that board has 3 phase power. probably gets hot as all hell. <0> poke your fingers in there and see how toasty those mosfets get when your gaming or somesuch <0> plus theres atleast 3 likely candidates on the far side of the dimms, and another one infront of the "xgp" slot. <1> ummm <1> which is what? :-) <2> so what did you upgrade to |slurpee? <1> just the ICs then? <0> ok, click the pic in that link you gave me so you can see something <0> see where the 4 pin connector goes in? <0> see the little black squares all around it?
<0> two sets above, one set below? <0> those are voltage regulators <1> ah ook <0> and the cylindrical things around them are capacitors (filters) <0> now, as far as measuring the temp of them <0> your pain threshhold is around 65-75 celcius <0> thats too hot. <0> so - the rule of thumb for voltage regulators being - much like *** - if it hurts, it may be a problem. <1> ok, I'll test that out tomorrow... I'm going to test 1 stick then another tomorrow <1> sinec I have to drag it out of this room to work on it <1> for tonight I'm just going to try tweaking the timing... I was told I can't really fry the ram by having the timing wrong? all I can do is bluescreen the machine? just timing... I won't touch voltage at all <0> nothing wrong with touching the voltage <0> bump it up a few notches <0> keep it under 3v and you'll be fine. <0> 2.8v or so is perfect. <1> ok... the ram docs says it wants 2.6 <0> yeah, give it more. <1> ok <1> back in 10 <0> your working with consumer grade crap here, keep that in mind. <0> **** fluctuates. it dips. <1> heh <1> ok <0> you want to overvolt for some semblence of stability. <1> I'll go put those in right now <0> friend****. <0> heh <0> what a wonderful handle. <0> one of the greatest pleasures of life is making your own milkshakes <0> I am convinced of this. <0> knowing that this delicous, creamy substance that fills your mug with all its subtle little aftertastes and hints of cinammon, ginger, banana, orange, maybe a dash of vanilla.. this glorious concoction is by your own making <0> one can never be satisfied with a mcshake again. <1> nope jumping the voltage up didn't help.. also changed Cas# latency from 2.5 to 3 <1> cpu is reading 41 degrees right now according to bios <0> what power supply do you have? <1> 430 watt <0> brand? <1> antec <0> HEH <1> ? <0> antec psu, biostar board, probably pqi ram or something, more than likely a maxtor hard drive and a evga video card.. <1> transcend ram seagate hdds & yes evga vid <0> what is this, "how much questionable crappy hardware can we stuff in one case"? <0> it could be ****ing anything. <0> get a multimeter and check the power supply's 12v, 5v and 3.3v, for starters. <1> well so far the biostar works better then the asus I had did :-p <0> thats not surprising. <0> asus are incredibly hit and miss. <1> yet everyone says they're top... <0> biostar are predictably middle of the line. <0> bull****. <0> asus are the biggest problem boards after ECS. <0> and trust me, I work on enough of them to know. <1> meh.... I dunno... I went around asking ppl on recomendations & asus was most recomended. my best board so far has been a soyo <0> yeah, soyo are ****ing awesome <1> I had an ecs... it ran ok no major probs but nothing great either <0> yeah, you got lucky. <1> 2 asus died however <0> heh yeah <1> this biostar seems highly configurable <1> except.. ram problem,,,
<1> ... <0> usualy they dont just up and die.. they just **** to a level where they are useless as a internet machine. <0> run memtest86 <0> and next time <0> buy a goddamn sparkle or fortran psu <0> not a wannabe AC psu :| <0> and if you want to know what I meant by that <0> try taking a oscilliscope to the 12v rail of a antec some time. <1> heh... those scopes are expensive aren't they? :-p <0> yes :( <0> I'm waiting for a little portable one to come up on ebay. <0> for a decent price :\ <1> sparkle hey? went with the antec cause it was 430 wats & has the swapable power plugs coming out of the psu <0> then I can add it to the fix0rage kit. <1> I could have gone a 400 sparkle & just your normal umm <0> sparkle/super flower/fortran <1> 4 pin big power connectors <0> yeah <1> forget what they're called <0> or if you want to shell out <0> enermax or pc power & cooling <0> and if anybody mentions OCZ I'm gonna have me a lynchin. <1> never heard of them <0> great. <1> ok <1> & after that random reboot <1> tonight it stays as 333 till I can check each sitck tomorrow <0> oh <0> its stable at 333? <0> I missed that part <1> ya <1> even though it's 400 <1> or at least labled as such :-p <0> ahhhh <0> :) <1> haven't had a crash once in 333 & memtest liked it at that speed <0> and how much did you turn up the voltage? <1> haven't tested at 400 yet since crashes = bad <1> dunno.. I changed it from "default" to 2.8 <1> I have options of "default" 2.7, 2.8, 2.9 <0> go up to 2.9 <0> set the timings to like, 3-3-3-8 <0> and command rate to 2t if its a option <1> optionts I have are cas# latency, min ras# active time, ras# to cas# delay , row precharge time & row to row delay <1> in that order on the screen... <0> so go relaxe them a bunch, crank the voltage. <0> you may have just gotten bunk memory <0> transcend isnt exactly a great brand <1> no? I thought they were = to sandisk <0> or, you know, it could be the crappy psu outputting unstable voltages, and the crappy voltage regulation on the motherboard isnt doing much of a job of filtering it. <0> and sandisk are wonderful memory makers? <1> *shrug* they're all you can buy around here for cameras... that or buy a sony & get sony memory sticks <1> usually that's a good indicator :p <0> er, yeah, flash memory != ddr. <1> mmm.... so settings I had in order were 2.5, 8, 3, 3, 3 <1> by relax you mean make it more like 3, 9, 4, 4, 4 ? <0> sure. <1> ok back in a min <3> happy bday to me :) <2> A year closer to death! :) How old are you? <1> ok testing now <1> I'll give it an hour of bf2 & see... last time it crashed about half hour mark <1> nope <1> so back to 333 I go for the night <0> I just know this is one of you.. <0> http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/1769/computerguy6xv.jpg <0> admit it. <4> ****er <4> you should warn :< <0> sorry.. I didnt think the sensitive eyes of a woman would be up at this ungodly hour ;P <4> time zones! <0> yes <0> and in other news.. he has hair.. on his back.. >_> <4> :||||||||
