<1> O_o
<0> for some reason i remember you stating how you were already using 4.1 gcc and you were ~arch :)
<0> looks like it came back to bite ya HUH
<2> http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/08/the_hybrid_mini.php
<1> yes but I just need to rebuild FF
<0> wtf?!
<1> NOT THE WHOLE WORLD HAHAHA
<0> FatMom: >:|
<1> ok ok..
<0> 0-60 in 4 seconds in that?!
<0> that would be insane

<0> heh
<0> it's 4.5 seconds
<0> and they stated 4 seconds
<0> shouldn't it be 5 seconds?
<0> whoa
<0> it uses the energy to stop
<0> that's insane
<0> what a dope carh
<0> -h
<2> 640 brake horsepower damm
<0> I think i need to get some food
<2> that would be one little fun ride
<0> yea
<3> I'm actually concerned about that car... regenerative braking completely fails when there is nowhere for the energy to go. If the battery and capactors are maxed out, the wheels can't brake at all. This wouldn't be an issue normally, but breaking for 10 miles straight as you go down a mountain road could cause problems.
<3> They mention that they use ONLY regenerative brakes... they have to have a backup method for when the capacitors are full.
<4> are you sure about that?
<3> Yes, regenerative brakes CAN'T if the capacitors are full. There are workarounds, like dump-resistors to throw waste energy into, but they can overload too (melt)
<4> can regenerative brakes even bring a car to a full stop?
<3> They brake by taking the charge from the generator... if the charge goes nowhere (because the caps are full), then the magnetic force stays in the generator... pushing just as much as it pulls, so not slowing it down at all. You can test this yourself: Take any reasonable efficient engine/generator and put a handcrank on it. If the leads from it go nowhere you will have little resistance cranking it. If they go to a heavy resistor you w
<3> Yes, because when they get close to stopping, they just turn 'on' the engines, in reverse.
<4> ah ok
<4> i was questioning the "no backup brakes" more than the maxed out caps
<3> Why? Your car has no backups... it just has disk brakes, and the piddly handbrake.
<1> and the force
<4> well i guess you'll just have to downshift going down huge long hills like you should in a normal car anyway
<5> http://shallax.com/rev.txt
<5> :>
<5> from what i can hear
<3> iamben, no shifting... electric car.
<4> yeah but it still has a normal transmission, no?
<3> Nope.
<3> The car has 4 electric motors, one on each wheel, that turns it directly... no shifting, no transmission.
<4> is it some CVT? or no different gearing at all?
<4> craaaaazy rpms
<3> It probably has a fixed gearing of some kinda... because the 5K rpm motor wouldn't be spinning the wheels at 5k.
<4> it probably either has a normal transmission or a continuously variable transmission
<3> Don't forget that electric motors can supply maximum torque at 0rpm.
<3> All you have to do is have the electric motor, rated for (number from ***) 5000 rpm... and gear it so that 5000 rpm = 200kph. Done.
<3> At 100kph, it's spinning at 2500rpm.
<4> yeah but what about when you're running on gas?
<3> You didn't RTFA did you? :-) The gas motor RUNS A GENERATOR.
<4> i cant read
<6> hell0
<3> hehe
<3> The gas engine, a tiny little one that's pretty low on HP, just generates electricity keeping the battery topped off. The car is moved by electricity alone.

<2> damm maybe i shouldnt have posted that
<3> heh
<3> Ahh well, good night everyone. Work is at a close, and I get to go home.
<7> doom3 runs GREAT under linux
<7> hey, is gcc-4.1.1 going to break anything?
<2> here come the n00bs
<4> b|aise: quite possibly, yes!
<1> it also give the flu
<4> follow the upgrade guide
<7> iamben: may I please have a url, cant seem to google it up...
<2> its on the front page

<8> is there anyway to list all the harddrives you have connected to your computer
<8> i mean i know you could do a df when you have them mounted but is there any other way to tell

<8> yea what does this mean: [4294725.885000] device-mapper: dm-linear: Device lookup failed // [4294725.885000] device-mapper: error adding target to table
<1> MrEcho: still the same
<1> hell, I remember it was even faster with my p3..
<2> stop screwing with things trying to make it faster
<2> yes I know you by now
<7> oops, i did an emerge -v -u system
<7> will that hurt gcc ?
<1> because I had winxp at this time, and it was the same as winxp
<2> ctrl+c
<1> I'm trying to make it faster because theres something wrong
<2> FatMom: from what ive learned in the p***, you end up making things slower
<4> b|aise: until you switch to the new gcc w/ gcc-config, nothing has changed
<1> uh?
<7> ahh, cool.. well I need a few things at the grocery store and I need to pick up a few applications for a new part time job..

<11> most servers won't even let ya connect with root in ident
<1> undernet does
<11> ok most decent irc networks don't allow you to :)
