<17> what directory do I place downloaded bz2 files in so portage will emerge them?
<18> /usr/portage/distfiles
<18> usually
<17> thanks
<17> whats annoying is I used the very same thing like a week ago
<17> and I forgot lol
<17> su
<17> oops
<18> hehe.. you cant remember everything.
<19> ...
<17> heh
<17> greaat now since I downloaded a newer version than what is listed in portage
<17> errr
<17> oh well
<20> hi, I just updated to the latest version of gaim. It didn't compile with the msn protocol. I investigated and found that when it compiled it didn't compile/install the msn libs for gaim. I went to the gaim support channel. They ran through a few things with me and stated that it's either a use flag or packaging issue. Has anyone else run across this problem when installing the latest version of gaim?
<21> it does have an MSN use flags
<21> wtf
<20> I checked the ebuild and msn was listed in IUSE=
<20> ah I see'
<20> that msn use flag is new apparently
<20> it'd be nice if it wasn't defaulted to off in portage, but whatever
<22> bitrot: i need your resume
<13> nastjuid: why?
<13> lol I just spoke to the dumbest bitch lol
<13> she didn't have a clue
<13> she told me 'just keep our internet up'
<13> wow like i'm in chrage of that you dumb *** blonde, i could tell she was blonde and it was over the phone
<13> then she told me since i'm the "Cox Guy" I'm supposed to be specific
<13> i guess i wasn't specific when I told her 'is she online'
<13> she's like 'yeah i'm online all my cables are plugged in andthe lights are on'
<13> i explained to her that doesn't mean they're online that only means that they're physically connected
<13> This is why women are good for two things, cooking/cleaning and making babbies
<13> everything else should be left up to the men.
<17> when I used the livecd of gentoo I was unable to get an internet based install so I went ahead and used the livecd sources however after the install finished and I went to try and configure the kernel there is nothing in /usr/src...
<17> so I'm pretty sure this is not normal
<17> could it be a corrupt livecd?
<17> as of right now I'm using a knoppix livecd to download sources and whatnot. However I'm concerned that if it's doing this the entire install is borked and I should just do another fresh install with a new livecd
<23> when you were booted in the livecd, could you emerge a kernel?
<17> yes
<17> wait
<17> it didn't give me an option of configuration
<23> no, you configure it separately
<17> right it didn't allow me the option of configuration in advanced mode
<17> which I found strange
<23> from my experience, emerging a kernel happens manually, not part of the emerge
<17> hmm oki
<17> thanks
<17> however it is starting though
<17> as in linux starts and loads gnome
<17> however there is nothing in /usr/src
<17> and this is w/o the livecd in the drive
<23> sounds like you installed a kernel
<23> you just don't have the sources
<17> yeap I know I did I just...can't find it lol
<23> kernel images usually lie in /boot
<17> aha
<17> wow I feel dumb
<17> foudn them
<23> kernel sources are in /usr/src/linux*
<17> right but there is no lnk there for linux
<17> it's an empty directory
<23> what about something like linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r8
<23> ?
<17> yes the source file was in /boot
<23> that's odd
<17> I'm curious as to why there wasn't a link for it in the directory though
<23> I'd be concerned, you don't want your sources to be in /boot
<17> do you think the install is salvagable?
<23> sure, just move /boot/linux-blah into /usr/src/linux-blah
<17> ok
