<0> so how come Xorg cant detect it?
<1> umm.. what do i do if i accidently forgot to put a " at the end when i typed export PS1="(chroot) $PS1"
<2> its being a douche
<1> then i pressed enter once
<1> then i figured i should put a " and press enter
<3> where can i get the .so files that revdep-rebuild says i need (mostly libXyaddayadda)?
<2> anolis: it should just have a line feed after the ps1
<2> just do the export over again without the enter
<2> after doing what you said
<1> yea, thats what happened, except.. my command line entry ended up 2 lines below where it was supposed to be
<0> ok uhh do i reboot to get rid of the f'd up text
<2> well, if you can stil run a command then you're fine
<0> sure..
<2> you just need to re-do your PS1 since there's a line feed now
<2> XB0XERS: oh, heh, sorry forgot about that part of it
<2> that happens some tiems

<2> sabocat: emerge it?
<1> .. so i tried that command again.. with the " and i had chroot infront of my words where the command is supposed to be... then i tried it without the ps1 at the end...
<1> lol
<0> ill reboot
<1> wtf do i do now...
<2> anolis: tty or an xterm
<1> tty
<3> Obsidian - I can't.... I keep getting the same error for almost everything I try to emerge
<2> go to another tty, login, and do echo $PS1
<2> anolis: then select that (i hope you have gpm :P) and redo the export with that blob of code
<2> mine is: \[\033[01;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[01;34m\] \w \$\[\033[00m\]
<2> thats the default gentoo PS1
<1> whoah...
<2> yeah its color code
<1> im just trying to install
<2> heheh
<3> basically, i'm doing emerge -uvD world, and part of that is modular Xorg.... i think that's what's messing up
<2> sabocat: do -upvD
<2> look at the list and see whats blocking if any
<0> ok so should i run xorgconfig instead of Xorg -config since it cant detect my mouse
<2> yeah
<2> and then go in and edit the xorg.conf file by hand to add features you want
<1> oh so what it says in the parenthesis is what it will say before the command entry area?
<0> wait!! i have to mouse.. mice.. because my usb tablet is also a mouse
<2> the wacom is totally different and i have no clue how to set one of those up, but i imagine its an X driver that needs to be enabled as another mouse device
<2> anolis: PS1 is just a nice fancy way to see your command line
<0> ok
<3> Obsidian - i did -uvpD.... nothing special
<2> you can do export PS1="C:\w"
<2> and make it look like a dos terminal :P
<2> sabocat: no blocks?
<2> modular Xorg has each lib in its own package afaik, so if you're missing one, emerge theh package
<3> obsidian - nope.
<0> ok should i try running startx now?
<0> i have a pretty fancy monitor so i set it at 1280x1024 @70h .. when i had the "other" os i could run it 1600x1200 @85
<0> ok i ran startx and it says driver cant support depth 24
<0> with a (EE) in front
<1> yay i fixed thanks Obsidian
<1> fixed it*
<0> so whats "(EE) VGA(0): Driver can't support depth 24." mean?
<0> i know the x850xt can support it lol
<0> but did i pick a bad driver in the kernel?
<0> and i also have "(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have usable configuration."
<0> ok so im back to the same problem i had originally.. now what
<1> try with vesa driver
<0> i allready have a <*> by that one do i need to edit the grub.conf?
<1> in your xorg.conf file change the driver its using now from whatever it is to vesa
<0> ooo
<1> if im understanding your problem correctly you cant get a display manager running?
<0> so where it says driver "vga" put vesa in place of vga?
<0> oh no i cant get a display manager running
<0> should i change the chipset to ati?
<0> or radeon..
<4> any idea why i get a call stack when emerging gaim?
<0> ok i did.. and then i ran startx.. and my monitor shut off.. but the towers still on and the HD led light is going off
<0> do i shut it off?
<0> ok im pressing the power button ->[ (press)
<5> anyone alive?
<5> question about nagios if anyone is interested....
<5> for the people that have installed this, any cons or bad thoughts?
<6> huh

<6> nagios looks pretty neat http://www.grimsplace.com/images/work/nagios.png
<6> 8)
<2> XB0XERS: ati has their own drivers you can use for X named fireglx
<7> I like ZenOSS better
<2> thats a whole adventure unto itself
<7> I used Nagios for years
<6> is there any point to monitor network users like that
<6> especially to such an intense degree
<7> when you have many systems, yes
<7> but I still like ZenOSS better
<6> zenoss looks pretty neat
<7> it is very
<4> weird i keep getting call stacks.. and i have emerge --sync
<7> ZenOSS even supports Nagios plugins
<0> ok how do i use fireglx
<2> that i dont know and i'll say search the wiki
<2> www.gentoo-wiki.com
<2> im sure there's a fantastic howto on there
<1> XBOXERS
<1> sorry i left
<1> the screen went black because you were able to start an xserver, your monitor just couldnt display it
<8> anybody sent stuff back to maxtor before ?
<8> in europe
<9> maxtor ****s
<8> seagate bought it now
<9> **** them and seagate
<8> ;-p
<8> lol
<9> WD
<8> what do you use ?
<8> ahhh
<9> all the way
<8> a lot of people been saying that
<9> i use WD so much
<8> however i have a wd here 500GB ..dead
<9> i love the drives
<9> then dont buy 500GB?
<9> too much **** for a HD
<4> whats with all these call stacks accuring?
<4> any ideas?
<6> w-hat
<10> User: gentooyay Pasted http://pasteme.com/p.php?id=288
<6> hmm. hmmm. that is very interesting
<11> that's funny, baselayout 1.12 is supposed to improve wireless
<11> instead it breaks mine.
<2> probably makes it better but is incompatible with the old config
<11> what old config, /etc/conf.d/net.example didn't change...
<2> *shrug* just a thought
<11> net.lo did change, but I don't see how it would break it if the syntax of the config for the network scripts is the same
<2> RageDemon: what the hell is a vortex
<11> /etc/init.d/net.lo that is....
<6> Obsidian: pretty sure it is a circular, sometimes conic, flow of fluid-like particles
<6> such as liquid, gas
<2> -_-
<2> i meant the exploit
<6> sometimes in conic, funnel-shaped vortexes the vector representations of the velocity of particles closer to the center are greater because of conservation of angular momentum
<6> oh
<6> Obsidian: I have no idea
<2> heh
<6> it's like moon language to me
<12> to the moon!
<6> Obsidian: I think it is a game
<6> of hacking
<6> and you get the p***word for level 2!
<2> hahah
<6> according to googling port 5842
<13> emerging psutils sure takes long time
<2> Thu Feb 24 18:59:34 2005 >>> app-text/psutils-1.17
<2> merge time: 12 seconds.
<2> o.O
<6> I hate english homework >:(
<3> ok, i know i keep harping on this, but i'm totally stumped, so please forgive me if i'm getting on your nerves. i'm trying to emerge modular xorg, and almost none of the packages will compile. they all throw different errors, but they all have Called dyn_compile and Called src_compile at the end. any help would be greatly appreciated (or at least tell me where i should be asking this)
<6> too long; didn't read
<2> dyn_compile and src_compile are ebuild functions
