<glen2> I found that bolting the HDDs to lumps of metal reduces noise (as they can't vibrate as much) and aids cooling as metal is a better heat conductor then still air.

<jatma> the exterior panels are ribbed anodized aluminium to aid radiating the heat away

<glen2> You don't need ribbed heat sink, just find the biggest lumps of aluminium at the local scrap yard that will fit in your case/
