<1> heh
<2> Ok, thansk
<3> is there a perferred menu editor for gnome?
<4> hehe
<4> no
<4> try alacarte
<4> its the only one
<3> looked , not in portage
<4> yes
<4> you need to get it and compile it yourself
<3> k, thank you
<4> dont know what the gnome-devs are thinking
<3> said editing by hand does not look fun
<3> -said
<4> nope i wouldnt advise it

<4> those xml thingies arent as easy as they look
<5> yay installing gentoo again!
<5> this time in vmware
<4> lol, why is every always installing gentoo "again" ?
<3> breakmygentoo has an ebuild for alacarte,
<4> my build is years old
<5> renihs: so is mine
<4> Damm i think only for 0.8
<5> well on other computers
<4> and copying to 0.9 (ebuild) didnt work for me
<5> but this is at work :P
<3> .9.90
<4> ah
<4> very good
<4> good to know
<4> Kash, i am currently recompiling world (3k packages) at work
<4> :)
<5> emerge -world ftw
<5> just ****s when **** breaks
<4> lol
<5> and the etc-update after that :(
<4> dont use etc-update
<4> filth
<5> whats that ?
<4> i have recompiled world at least 50 times
<5> ?? filth
<4> etc-update is filthy
<4> ugly
<4> worthless
<4> pointless
<5> ahh yeah
<4> evil
<4> dispatch-conf > etc-update
<5> how's that work?
<4> its basicly the same just it keeps backups
<5> ahh
<4> dunno why gentoo handbook discribes etc-update
<4> dispatch-conf is in gentoolkit
<4> and if you build your system clean (use package.use /package.keywords)
<5> gentoo toolkit as to gentoo as windows resource kit is to xp ?
<4> it wont break
<4> no
<4> revdep-rebuild revives a gentoo
<4> you cant break a gentoo :)
<5> oh nice!
<5> i broke it couple of times
<5> 10gigs good enogh?
<5> should be
<4> my base install is 14gig
<4> :)

<4> good old matja
<6> innit
<4> innit?
<5> hehe yeah he's crazy
<6> he he aint
<6> hes very inventive ...thats all
<6> gotta have fun in life somehow
<4> inventive is an interesting way of describing :)
<6> renihs, sorry thats very british
<6> innit=isnt it
<4> ah
<6> hehe
<7> on this new 2.8 GHz P4 box, gentoo canNOT multitask :O I open Opera and *every*thing* freezes for 10 seconds. When I run emerge --pretend, $ top reports the following: 33.0% us, 54.5% sy, 0.0% ni, 0.0% id, 13.0% wa I'm using JFS and i routinely see jfsCommit in the top 10 processes. Is it JFS' fault? Is it normal behavior?
<4> btw, check out the video and tell me what you think of the look and feel :) at http://haxor.me.uk/matja/wma/desktop-menu-apps.avi
<4> hopeseekr, it most likely is *not* normal behaviour
<4> strace the startup and look what happens
<4> :)
<4> netburst architecture sux
<6> renihs, looks pretty much like mine lol
<6> what am i looking for ?
<4> OmegaEvil, watched already?
<6> can hardly see...
<6> sec
<7> renihs, no, i mean, it hapepns on EVERY THING
<4> ya, thats why strace it, see what its trying to access
<6> ohh its matjas live dvd ?
<4> would be my first approach
<4> no
<4> thats mine :)
<8> hopeseekr: try booting with noapci on your kernel command line
<8> er
<8> noapic i mean
<7> xchat is so non-multitasking, for instance, that it "freezes" when some one enters somethign and the entire screen redraws itself for an entire 1/2 second
<7> ok
<4> see there he is
<7> boot: Gentoo noapic?
<6> nat
<6> neat
<6> rather
<7> k i'll report back shortly
<4> but matja will have the honor of contributing lots of 100mb lines for the distribution of the dvd
<4> :)
<4> he promised at least 4 t1's
<4> :)
<6> looool
<8> i piss on t1's
<6> lol
<6> me too
<4> do they still exist?
<4> :)
<6> be better to run a torrent tracker
<4> of course
<4> but on a few 100mbit lines
<4> :)
<6> renihs, you gonna put xgl in there too ?
<4> if i ever find it usefull :)
<4> ya, i will make a seperate build
<6> good point lool
<4> dont want to mix too much
<6> i never played with gentoo
<6> about time i do
<4> it rules everything
<6> livedvd would be a starts
<6> renihs, hmmm
<6> i wont even start a debate on that lol
<6> 40 people 2000 opinions
<4> you couldnt argue it either :)
<4> ya, my livedvd is now used by 6 friends already as *only* OS
<4> although they do use crossover for ms office
<4> cant argue that, openoffice has still a long way to come
<6> **** MS
<4> :(
<4> i prefer lyx
<4> :)
