<0> i had always ***umed that the unionfs ebuilds in portage were applicable for the kernels in portage
<0> they are not.
<1> Has anyone here done any work with rsync ?
<0> Milligan_: every day
<1> foxdonut, I answered my question myself :-) For anyone that needs to know: the rsync verbose mode only prints the files it actually syncs .. not all processed files.
<2> is there a way to kill a hung terminal in screen ?
<2> put another way , one of my screen is hung
<3> that's kinda personal :P
<3> kill -9 [pid]
<3> or killall -9 [name]
<0> ctrl-a, shift-k
<0> anyone know of a decent digital camera which can be also used as a webcam?
<0> ie for computer-controlled time-lapse
<4> the internet is for porn!
<3> yup and pedo's :P
<4> the internet is great!

<4> i remember good old daytona usa
<4> roooollliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart
<5> hey, i use framebuffers. somehow my screen is moved a little bit to the left. i can manually fix this after boot with "fbset -move right" twice. any idea how to get that working already on boot up?
<6> put the command in /etc/conf.d/local.start
<5> lude: is this the very first command which gets executed on startup?
<7> it gets executed after all the important initscripts are done
<7> and before your login prompts appears
<5> spb: hmm ok i try this. thanks
<7> if you want it earlier you will have to write your own initscript and put it stupidly early in the order, or hack rc
<5> hehe ok
<8> ....
<9> .....
<8> ......
<7> ......
<8> .......
<0> if you're using framebuffer ng, enable Generalized Timing Formula in your kernel options
<0> oh hes gone
<0> no wonder it didnt nick complete

<10> Does anyone know how i get stop gentoo from deleting a custom ebuild i've put together in my /usr/portages dir?
<11> why would oidentd seemingly ignore my /etc/oidentd.conf and $HOME/.oidentd file when i start it with /etc/init.d/oidentd start, but if i stopped the service and just type "oidentd" it picks up the settings i have, which is basically spoof the ident?
<0> deww: is it configured via /etc/conf.d/oidentd to run as a unprivileged, non-root, user?
<11> yea nobody, nobody
<0> then your .oidentd.conf files need to be readable by 'nobody'
<11> ok.
<11> maybe that's it
<11> i'll give it a shot. thanks.
<4> rynz, that was a ****ty fight
<4> what a waste
<4> dude id rather lick my balls than watch taht fight again.
<0> so your user home directory needs to be chmod o+x, which is pretty terrible security
<3> anyone have a qwest actiontech modem?
<0> better, would be to run oidentd as its own user 'oidentd' or such, and use setfacl to allow only oidentd to cd into a user directory and read only that file
<0> such as 'setfacl -m u:oidentd:--x /home/$USER ; setfacl -m u:oidentd:r-- /home/$USER/.oidentd.conf'
<7> or you could use a real access control system and allow the oidentd service search to home dirs and read to user oidentd configs
<12> hrm
<12> my /bin/login disappeared.
<12> was right after i unmerged pam-login.
<12> does that get fixed when shadow is installed?
<12> i don't remember having this problem before.
<0> katepls: yea
<11> ok. my /home/user/.oident.conf has been world readable
<0> shadow has its own /bin/login
<12> hrm
<12> i don't ever remember being able to see the transition.
<12> this is my first time using the 2006.0 live cd though.
<11> and the same setup spoofs the ident on another machine. same groups, same userid, just different machine

<11> matja_: thank you. i neglected to check my user directory's permissions
<13> i was going to get a new gaming system but i dont think i'll bother
<11> so simple :(
<13> deww: yea, its caught me out plenty of times ;)
<13> deww: its even more of a pain when you do SELinux policies for all your services ;(
<7> selinux policy is easy
<11> i don't even know what that is. all i know is that we disable it when install redhat. heh

<7> silly wabbit
<7> selinux is great
<11> :)
<4> man
<4> those Lotus Elise are sweet
<4> only 190hp though, wtf
<7> argh
<7> you mentioned the l-word
<13> its the power:weight ratio, though
<13> they weight about as much as a can of spanners

<4> you like stangs too eh
<13> i wouldnt say no to one, but theres things i'd rather have

<19> burnttoas: ^
<20> nevermind, i found one
<20> thanks
<20> didn't see the i86 build initially but found another source
<21> Hm.. I'm working on a program to create a geek code from questions one has to answer, but Iv'e come to a halt... I can either write the questions in the code, or I can have a function which reads the questions from a file, any ideas?
<22> are you asking for ideas that you think would be better or ideas on how to do it?
<19> from a file
<21> nastjuid: Well, I suppose that is the more elegant way...
<19> if there's prizes or money involved for solving it, go with in the code
<19> aferthas: my teachers in school taught me K.I.S.S
<19> keep it short, simple
<19> kitchen: bitrot: I saw this video last night of some guys in exhaulted pvp gear with thunderfury raping BWL
<23> how do you control the speed of your case fan in the os level?
<24> woo
<19> suj: driver support or nothin
<25> welusuxi
<26> mucoa
<27> xakujubi

<28> anyone ever been able to upgrade Gentoo just by running emerge --sync and emerge -uDN world? I've been trying to upgrade Gentoo for the past 4 days now :b
<22> yah, what problems do you have?
<28> keep getting stalled b/c of compile errors, dependency failures and junk.
<28> most recently I had to add sys-libs/db to package.mask, then unmask the version I have installed becasue any attempt to compile a newer version results in some sort of "Expected = or - or + or kitchen sink or ex girlfriend" error in some java library.
<24> hehe
<24> it's a pain using the global emerge commands
<24> doesn't always work
<24> gets filled with ****e
<29> hey stixx :P
<22> yah, and the longer ago you last updated your packages, the more likely you'll have issues. just work through them like you are
<28> part of the problem is that at some point I accidentally overwrote package.keywords when I echoed something > instead of >>. So to avoid having to keep adding **** over and over and over and ****ing over and over to package.keywords, I just did accept_keywords. That doesn't seem to promote the highest compatibility among packages. =)
<28> ya, I'm trying to update from 2005.0 basically
<22> lol, likely related
<28> I updated glibc and gcc, and now I get "/usr/bin/gtbl: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
<28> whenever I try to view any man pages. I gotta figure out what all to re-emerge after my world update finishes ;b I know there's some of dependency update script in gentoo but I can't remember the name of the script =/
<28> sumn like deplib-update or something?
<22> you can use revdep-rebuild to figure out reverse dependency problems
<28> that's it!
<28> revdep-rebuild
<13> anyone know if it is possible to shrink an xfs filesystem?
<28> what the crap causes packages to remain masked after you add them to package.unmask?
<22> it should tell a reason
<28> ah, figured it out. CVS crap you have to put a -* at the end of the line in package.keywords
<30> what can I use from the command line to figure out the sector size on disk?
<30> oh, hdparm -g :o
<4> yaa get outta my car
<4> hahahhaa
<4> don't h***le the hoff
<23> what kind of driver would you need to control a case fan?
<23> a proprietary mobo-specific driver?
