<0> ya <1> The Benchwarmers is a funny flick <2> that works to on most new hardware <2> ritalin10; wanna play hot potato <3> ok so if i need to do mke2fs the boot? i wont ..i just proceed.. <2> ... <1> motion: :P <2> gr3yw0lf; personally ive always had trouble formatting partitions that dont exist <1> the sun scares me in real life too <2> hahaha <1> i could relate <2> why <2> lightning is 3 times hotter then the surface of the sun <1> its not flattering to my nerd belly though <1> i look best in a baggy sweater in a dark room <2> heh
<2> eat more of that ritalin <3> ok guyz thanx ill create 2 primarys ...one for swap .. 256...and one for the root... <3> but if i start to partition from 3824 <3> so i need to add 256 to 3824 ...and thats will be the swap? <0> ? <2> gr3yw0lf; put it where you want <3> ok <2> man <2> gr3yw0lf; can we feed you too <3> :\ <3> ok <2> tuck you in for bed? ;) <3> heh <3> no <3> hmm <3> im out too install it now <3> 10x man <3> gentoo :) <2> i should start asking all people that <0> gezz just read the ****ing handbook <2> mrecho; the hand what ? AHH **** they actually have instructions for this **** ? <0> still need to finish off my guide thou <2> ;) <0> just the kernel part left and some formatting of text <2> where is the guide that shows you how to make it so your kernel dosnt lock up <0> there isnt one <2> why <2> people would pay for that **** <0> because theres to many differnt types of systems/installs <0> + all the options within the kernel <2> MAN cdparanoia is ****in slow <0> could there be a program that did it for you, yes, but it would have to have one hell of a hardware DB, and some very good coding <2> oh i trust my kernel. it just needs to stop locking up on random **** <0> ? <0> ive never had a kernel lock up on me <2> well 2 minutes i go i clicked rip+encode on grip <2> sits for 2 minutes no mouse, no keyboard, cd spinning and spinning <2> few days ago i pressed f in xine to go from full screen to non <2> and just goes blue and half desktop <2> and locks <2> just stupid **** <0> never had thouse issues <2> yeah im sure its some odd *** thing i put in the kernel later on <0> ive had opengl **** do stupid stuff to X .. but nothing kernel related <2> it ran fine for a long time then i starting seeing the opengl flair screensaver locking it up <2> changed it to blank never happened again <2> that or X config possible :/ <2> but i gtg to bed <2> ttyl man <3> ive got another problem <3> when im trying to make menuconfig <3> it tells me <3> too many levels of symbolic links <3> ^ <3> what should i do? <3> Milligan_ ? <3> motion? <3> MrEcho ? <3> :| <0> rm /usr/src/linux ; USE="symlink" emerge gentoo-sources
<3> ok <3> brb <3> it tells me <3> hmm <3> are you missing the /etc/make.profile symlink? <3> :| <0> only way thats deleted is if YOU deleted it <3> what? <3> make.profile ? <0> yes <3> didnt touch it <3> ill check that file? <0> it isnt a file <0> lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 48 Jul 31 01:45 /etc/make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2006.0 <3> its empty <3> oh <0> rm /etc/make.profile <0> ln -s /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2006.0 /etc/make.profile <3> its like yours.. its ln to the ^ just 2005.0 <3> ^^ <0> i guess you downloaded the wrong stage <3> didnt downloaded <3> im using the one that is on the disk <0> ok, your using an old disk <3> so what? <3> i need to download a new version now? <1> gawd firefox takes forever+day to compile <0> when you do a --sync and try to update, your going to have to rebuild 95% of everything or more <4> actually, even if you use current and do -uD you update 100% :p <3> talking to me? <4> no, MrEcho <0> :P <0> why i put the "or more" part on there <3> ok MrEcho . .ill download 2006 version <0> gr3yw0lf: make ****ing damm sure you have your make.conf right <0> gr3yw0lf: no need <3> what do you have in your make.conf file? <0> http://www.gentoo-install.com/ <4> MrEcho: your guide? <0> yep <4> cfdisk > fdisk <4> much easier for newbies <4> and much better overall imo :p <0> dont care much for cfdisk <0> and its what the main guide uses .. so <5> Is it possible to make grub load a module, so that gentoo recognizes my raid controller ? <0> lol no <5> hehe <0> why you dont build modules for hardware like that <1> gentoo rules <5> So, it's impossible to boot from a harddisk that's behind a raid controller ? <1> eselect <3 <1> its so great <0> the hdd is going to show up as a scsi disk to the kernel <0> or sata <5> MrEcho, yes .. after I load the driver module. But how can gentoo boot from that hd, before I load the driver ? <4> why not compile it directly into the kernel? <0> dude, you need to forget about having the hardware drivers as a module <4> if you ABSOLUTELY want to use modules, you make an initrd <4> and boot via that <0> ya <4> covered in the genkernel section of the gentoo handbook <5> How do I compile it straight into the kernel ? <4> but as a general rule, dont use modules for stuff you dont take in/out of your computer, and at least not basic hardware like raid controllers :p <0> dont select it to be build as a module :P <4> you got three choices <4> empty, * and M <4> * = compiled in <4> read the handbook :P <5> MrEcho, oteren, the driver isnt supported by linux out of the box. I had to compile an opensource driver to make it work. <0> whats this hardware? <5> A SuperTrak Ex16300, 16 port PCIx sata raid controller. <0> and is it sata? <5> Or a SuperCrap as I like to call it.
