<0> hi Butcher
<0> who sang video killed the radio star?
<0> Reel Big Fish, thats the one.
<1> MeshMan:the oringal or the many of remixes
<2> Reel Big Fish is the one i'm after :)
<1> i've heard tons of remixs of that sound
<3> Mesh - you sure you're not looking for the presidents version?
<3> I don't remember an RBF version, but the pres did one a few years ago
<2> this is defineteely the one
<2> http://www.betanews.com/article/WinHEC_2006_Brings_New_Office_Vista/1148404510
<2> Beta 2 Released of Vista, Office 2007 and Longhorn
<4> anyone know a really good 3d engine source code that can be used with C# or vb.net .. for around $1000.00 with support, tools, shader support?
<4> y7ea
<5> LuzArius: well, shader support is standard in opengl and direct3d, you don't need an engine to utilize that stuff..
<5> and alot depends on your end goals.. what do you have in mind?
<5> as a project that is

<2> I recommened TrueVision which is about $150 for a single commercial license.
<2> And whats that engine moebius used to go on about.
<5> There is Torque also
<4> TV3D is nice but there is no documentation and no tools.. all the tools i have to write myself
<2> If your using C#, that shouldn't really be time consuming.
<4> it seems like the price range is $150.00 or $50,000.00 .. there is nothing in the middle
<4> lol
<2> I'm sure there would be if you asked them.
<4> meshy you are right about TV3D
<4> i use that now
<4> i paid $150.00
<4> i have like $850.00 more to spend .. i wish they would add more features
<2> I heard they are very near to releasing their 6.5 version.
<2> But I also heard that rumour 12 months ago.
<2> Direct from their developers mouth.
<2> Or keyboard..
<6> keyboard is probably really ****y
<7> <2> Beta 2 Released of Vista <---- you know what that means, right?
<5> LuzArius: you havn't answered my question
<2> _nv: Nope.
<7> it means I spend tomorrow at the ship party
<2> Where do you work?
<5> _nv: more unsecure PC's running around on the internet, and a m*** slowdown of the internet while bittorrent explodes with the torrents? ;)
<7> uh, guess?
<6> yo mama
<2> I didn't know you worked at MS.
<7> Beta2 doesn't **** as hard as the previous releases do, but it's still just something to toy with.
<2> Can you help me fix this counterfiet icon on my taskbar then ? :)
<5> Meshy: _nv works in the caffeteria ;)
<7> sure Meshy, just go buy the software.
<2> hehehe
<2> _nv: I'm a student, I can't afford to.
<5> wait...
<4> rangar i'm making a Tile based 3d multiplayer game which at first supports 8 users. i have a network layer already. i was hoping to get a hold of a 3D engine that handles things like paging, has a world editor, full shader support with tons of examples, like high dynamic range ready to go things like that. willing to pay like $1000.00 but i don't know if that is feasible
<5> beta will be a public beta??
<7> dunno if it's public or not
<7> probably not, but it gets out to a lot of people (MSDN subscribers, etc)
<2> The torrent will be up in 12 hours _nv.
<7> LuzArius, what do you want out of an engine? Aside from what you mentioned.
<5> LuzArius: lemme be honest here, engines are now days piss easy to write if your handy with cut&paste from the internet if you don't want to learn it all yourself
<7> Meshy, of course.
<2> Rangar: Wouldn't say that was true.
<7> LuzArius, do you want community support? A full game engine? What?
<5> Meshy: placers like gametutorials.com and ultimategameprogramming.com have hugely usefull examples with generic code for coll. detection etc etc
<2> Most stuff I see on the net though Rangar is very scalable.
<2> isn't*
<2> Especially them two sites :)
<7> I haven't read those sites, but I'm sure that any sample game code you find online will ****.
<2> I think anyone can write specific samples/examples that do one or two things.
<2> An engine as a whole, is a different beast altogether.
<8> Rangar, or you could just get one of the OS engines out ther elike Tribes :)
<4> a full 3d engine but with things like paging done, or controls like a 3d textbox 3d label .. things like that already made... a world editor that is already made.. something with the tools already made... i'm trying not to reinvent the wheel too much... i see two extremes. 3d engines that are around $100.00 with no tools and just the wrapper, or they are buggy hard to follow.. then the other extreme which is $750,000.00
<5> LuzArius: when it comes to shaders... nVidia has FX Composer ( Makes it easy to make Direct3D shaders.. http://developer.nvidia.com/object/fx_composer_home.html ), ATI have RenderMonkey that does the same thing
<7> OSS engines...
<5> Gambit-: tribes.. you mean Torque Engine whicxh i already mentioned bud ;)
<8> Rangar, I'm not really paying attention, I just saw your last :) How're you doing? :)
<4> brb...
<5> The HARDEST part of any game completion imho is NOT anything to do with coding, it's the artwork and modelling
<2> Yeah. I'll agree with that too hehe.
<8> Rangar, you only feel that way because you're not an artist or modeler :)

<4> same here ... which is why 'm leaving that for last
<5> Gambit-: I'm not tooo bad bud, sprained neck atm, so I shouldn't even be on the puter... but addictions MUST be fed ;)... Hows you guys?
<7> LuzArius, well, give Nebula a shot. It has more of that than most game engines, but not everything.
<8> Rangar, Pretty good :) Did I tell you we're engaged now? :)
<5> Gambit-: HAH!, I learnt how to model just so I didn't have to relky on others :)
<4> i'll check it out nv
<5> Gambit-: oooh now, AWESOME bud ( and about time too ;))... You'll be head'n back to US for the marriage I take it?
<2> _nv: Can you remember that one moebius used to talk about?
<7> Meshy, no.
<8> Yup, mid september or thereabouts :)
<5> rock'n :)
<5> argh, I gotta find $110 this week.. my Antivirus trial is about to run out :(
<8> Rangar, Yeah, proposed in front of my entire family eep :)
<8> Rangar, what OS?
<5> Kaspersky Security Suite.. It simply rocks all over Nortons
<8> Ah forget spending money on that stuff, just grab AVG
<2> Seen NOD32 Rangar/
<5> I prefer Avast over AVG, but Kaspersky has features none other offer
<2> I suggest you check out the statisitcs on NOD32 compared to all the others :)
<8> Rangar, Avast has a /really/ bad detection rate for me
<8> Meshy, I don't trust those statistics, I've seen too many infected machines running avast to believe them.
<5> Meshy: Kaspersky has the highest hitrate at intercepting even unknown viruses ;).. it gets like 99.5% of them apparently
<2> Heh, NOD32 claimed it detects 98% more virsues than anyone else.
<5> And my machine doesn't slowdown with I/O with kaspersky like it does the others
<8> Rangar, so whatcha working on nowadays?
<2> With the greatest performance by like 500%
<5> haha
<5> with stats like that, I think I'd stay clear for a good reason ;)
<2> Statistics needs banning.
<5> the stats I got for Kaspersky came from independent IT testers
<5> try http://www.kaspersky.com/trials
<5> Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 simply rocks
<5> WELL worth the money when compared to Nortons etc imho
<8> well the nortons are complete crap, everyone agrees on that
<2> Norton is just crap.
<9> why?
<8> heya Narris
<5> because it's bog-ware
<2> Heh, where do we begin.
<9> give an actual reason why you recomend the product.
<5> nortons always seems to grind machines down to an almost halt speed wise compared to the rest
<9> not why norton ****s.
<8> I think it's because they're targeted by a lot of viruses specifically. I have no evidence to back that up, but I've found a lot of machines running norton that are completely compromised.
<9> its easy to say what ****s about stuff, whats good about the thing you are recommending.
<8> Ditto for Avast, whereas I've never seen a compromised AVG machine.
<2> NOD32 doesnt bog my machine down :)
<2> IT also detected q few virsues that Norton couldn't.
<2> It has way more functionality.
<8> plus it's lightweight, free, and has good regular updates.
<2> It scans hell of a lot faster.
<2> It self updates without bothering me.
<2> And it doesnt spam my taskbar.
<8> Nod32's been getting some good press lately, so it might be the next one I try.
<5> Narris: Kaspersky? - It's fast, VERY nice and simple interface, lets me view emails before they are downloaded so I can pretrash spam, it's AV is apparently pretty much the best in the world at detecting unknown viruses etc
<10> Hello :)
<6> Why hello there Mr. [Relic]. Perhaps you should've knocked first.
<2> Did I also mention that it intercepts every single internet download for a quick scan? Even JPEG's if I asked it too.
<5> It's just "great" imho, and a product iu dob't mind paying a yearly sub with
<2> It scans my WMV as they stream.
<2> Great for pr0n browsing :D
<5> damn thats sad Meshy... get a wife
<2> I'm too young ;)
<8> Meshy, if it'll cache streaming video to disk for later browsing, it's got my vote :)
<5> one day, Mrs Palmer and her 5 children are going to stop giving you any satisfaction ;)
<2> And on another day, a little furthur on, so will the wife
<2> lol
<5> Gambit-: haha, dude.. streaming video for caching?.. haha, it all caches to thje uses internet temporary folder I've found ;)
<10> Only if you use IE :)
<5> The KEY is, do not close the media player down BEFORE you copy it out ;)
<8> Rangar, Na, not the /actual/ streaming stuff :)
<5> yes, use IE to open them ;)
