<2> suv4x4: WMV only became a viable codec for professional quality at WMV9.. so the interface itself may be bloated all to hell but the WMV codec itself was fairly pointless. That coupled on top of a boggy player that I'm sorry but I don't agree that it's any better than subsequent versions as of yet
<2> suv4x4: I still have issues playing large AVI files and certain codecs in WMP that somehow quicktime plays perfectly (embarrasingly). ffdshow doesn't show I'm going through any odd pipes either, it's all normal
<5> ominous, I'm looking at it from user perspective. The library is much simpler, the interface lighter and faster. It can burn and rip. And the codec in WMP10 is pretty decent. RealMedia's codecs would top it if their player wasn't so much worse
