<0> ? what do I do if a package is not included in the yum reposatory? how do i locate the repo that a package is in?
<1> How do I run scripts on login -- with Fedora 4. I want to map some drives, but only when I login, and bring up some other programs and stuff.
<2> do you know what inittab is?
<2> and the differnt run levels
<3> ke6i, are we talking mount or make a link ?
<1> yeah. But I want stuff to run when I login. Not on the startup of the computer.
<1> login as a user.
<4> .bash_profile
<4> put the commands in there
<1> oh okay yeah that's what I want.
<1> Will try it now.
<2> ke6i, good luck!
<1> Yeah that works. Took one retry to figure out that I should run 'xterm -e blahblah' with the '&' sign. Oops. Otherwise is fine now. Thanks.
<5> Anyone know A good motherboard for a socket 939 that has onboard video and supoorts linux
<6> hi there, anyone up and awake?
<6> i've got one question here, if anyone is up for it...

<7> ask, don't ask to ask
<7> 'can i ask a question' <- is already a question
<8> I'm having trouble mounting a windows share on my FC4 machine. When running smbmount //ip/share /path/to/mnt/point -o uname=uname I get the "libsmb based programs must *NOT* be setuid root" error. I tried removing suid bit on /sbin/mount.smbfs, smbmount and smbmnt and /bin/mount to no avail & running as root executes just fine. I even tried adding myself to the wheel group - Any suggestions?
<9> Is it possible to update online to fc5? By doin gfor instance "yum upgrade" or something?
<9> i mean fc5test2 of course, and i'm happy to blow up the system i'd be doing it on
<10> http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/YumUpgradeFaq would give you general upgrade instructions
<9> thanks
<10> np
<10> google is amazing
<9> yes, google's getting to be more and more topical
<9> nothing on that URL you kindly gave me mentions fc5 though
<10> yeah since it's not released
<10> use the idea though and figure it out
<9> i meant to ask about fc5test2 though, sorry if i didn't mention that
<10> we know fc5 isn't final
<10> get the package names for fc5 test whatever
<10> and go through that process
<9> ok, i'll start a torrent
<9> i too know fc5 isn't final, i was willing to sacrifice a box to it
<10> I too read you're willing to blow up a box
<11> hey guys. the keymap on the cli is incorrect for my keyboard (eg: Shift+3 gives instead of #), however in kde it's fine. how can i fix this for the cli?

<14> I'm having troubles getting yum working. it is saying i need to rpm --import public.gpg.key. When I do the rpm it sais "import read failed."
<15> what up peoplr
<15> people
<16> Hello!
<16> Does 'yum' compiles the packages? or does it just download and install the binarys?
<3> rpms are pre-compiled
<16> Are the binarys compiled for 386 or 586?
<3> depends
<3> if they are for a 32bit yes
<16> Let's say that I've got a 32-bits computer and run 'yum install mozilla-firefox'
<16> Will I get a i386 or a i586-binary?
<3> i386 and i586 doesnt make much difference
<3> not for application binaries
<3> kernel yes

<17> how do i configure xmms so that it can find the output plugin?
<19> what error do you get
<17> yum -y install xine xine-lib xine-skins
<17> this is not working
<17> are there any particular reason
<17> ?

<2> fc4 dvd installs keep failing media check
<2> should i just skip that
<7> i did
<7> and it all worked fine
<2> what's the point of a media check that fails if it's not really bad
<7> was cd in my case
<2> I have 2 dvds
<2> one came from a book
<2> the other I burned myself
<2> I'v installed from the self made iso dvd before
<2> ran the os for months
<2> then I had a hd crash and had to reinstall
<2> now the dam installs won't go. I'm thinking my dvd drive is toast
<2> so I swapped it out with a dvd player drive I have to test it
<21> the media check failure is a known bug
<2> is there an updated media release that fixes it?
<2> ok lets see if this installed
<2> installs
<2> I'm betting my dvd burner is messed up
<2> the other day I put a cd in it and the entire system shut down and rebooted
<2> at first I thought the powersupply was proably to blame for that
<2> cause that explains a reboot like that.. too much draw or something
<2> but with all these installs flippin out..
<2> right now i'm trying from the fc4 dvd that came with the unleashed book
<2> is there a netinstall if this keeps crapping out?
<2> it seems to be ok right now
<2> formatting file system takes a bit. it's 200 gigs
<7> yes there's a net install
<7> if yer hard up, u can always take the dvd burner drive and hook it up to the other comp
<2> that's what I did
<2> only the opposite
<2> I took the dvd reader (player only)
<2> from an old 800mhz box that is defunct
<2> put it on my desktop workstation box
<2> it seems to be working.. but it's not in the file copy stage yet
<2> man this install is taking a month
<2> something is physically wrong with hardware on this box
<2> that was not wrong before
<2> it's been formating a 200gig hd for an hour straight
<2> I wonder..
<18> how do i make wine compatible with windows 95????
