<0> shaders are like functions
<0> they take in input, and output something
<1> So input would be like the vertices of a triangle?
<0> yes
<0> it takes in one vertex at a time
<1> Ok and I can't like apply a shader to something thats already been drawn right?
<0> newp
<0> unless you screen grab, and draw a new quad or something ;)

<1> dang, so much for implementing shaders into this engine then ^_^
<1> guess ill have to abandoned the engine and go my own way
<0> :O
<0> engyne?
<0> which engyne?
<1> Was using FlatRedBall
<1> A little simple 2D engine
<0> never heard of it
<0> but ok
<1> probally cause its .net ^_^
<1> http://69.136.59.36/images/ParticleEffect.PNG
<0> or because it's 2D and doesn't have shaders? ;D
<1> Something I was working on in it
<1> I shall make the ultimate 2D shader game >.<
<1> Like realistic 2D gr*** or, realistic 2D water lol
<0> haha
<1> Give mario some bloom!
<1> Not that I know what bloom really does
<1> but it sure as hell sounds cool
<0> I don't think it'd work too well in 2D
<0> bloom I mean
<2> it could, if you had parallax
<0> yeah
<0> I guess so
<0> I forgot about parallax
<1> parallax. Another word that sounds cool
<0> because it's the bomb diggidy
<1> Parallax: The change in the position of an object in the heavens due to the orbit of the earth. Observable parallax in the fixed stars is a proof of the rotation of the earth around the sun. Explanatory Diagram
<0> liez
<0> earf is the center of the univerze
<3> i think the hardest thing i've found is architecturing a solution using a tool (directx) that i don't know very well, i'm bound to make mistakes trying to shore up my knowledge using this api specifically before making decisions about how it fits int othe overall picture...coding 'examples' all day is easy, figuring out a specific instance that can be optimized for a target platform and game data seems a quite a bit more challenging

<1> jeez thats a long sentence...you expect anyone to read it?
<3> unforunately i haven't found alot of info along these lines as i have in the past during othe rprojects, specifically things along the mS patterns&practices guidelines etc
<3> if reading a sentence of that length requires alot of effort on your part you probably wouldn't have much input i'd be interested in anyhow =)
<3> i'm curious if anyone else has had the same experience or maybe i'm looking for the wrong documentation
<0> probably
<0> w t f are you trying to do
<1> I recommend cherry pie, cause it's better than apple
<0> no wayz
<0> dutch apple kthx
<3> i'm really looking for effective methods of batching, i read some of the postings by mS mvp Jack Hoxley and it's essentially an empirical problem, requires experimentation and profiling, but id like some guidelines
<0> batching u sez
<3> yessum
<0> using singular textures makes it easy ;)
<0> I suppose Carmack's MegaTexture will help too
<2> Risis - basically, textures break batches
<2> generate your entire mipmap chain, pack it into texture atlases and make your tools update your models tex-coords.
<0> atlases?
<2> then pack each atlas into the side of a cubemap
<2> and update your texcoords again
<2> then you've done as much as you can :d
<2> Ghaleon - yeah. you know, putting textures side by side in the mip-chain
<0> maybe
<2> http://developer.nvidia.com/object/texture_atlas_tools.html
<2> there's some NV tools to help you do it.
<0> if I saw an image of one I'd probably say I've seen it before
<1> *cough*applepie****s*cough*
<0> if you ate it instead you probably wouldn't have that nasty cough
<0> u should really see a doctor
<0> looks like u coughin up blood
<1> nope that's cherry sauce ^_^
<1> ate so much it was coming back up
<0> nastay
<1> We must help the duckies!
<1> So I was parallaxing my bloom shader with a buffer then all of a sudden BAM got hit by a car :'(
<0> BAM
<3> Dr^Nick: thx that, is there any other documentation you know of that gives some thought to this subject? i just emailed a few mvp's to get their thoughts, poking in google now
<3> oh found some stuff on nvidia site i think it's exactly what i was looking for to base off of, thx
