<5> daynagirl: the best example would be: create a new word document. (I)nsert/(O)bject / Create From File / Browse - just throw some random file in there. Make sure you "Display as Icon" and don't "Link to File". Click on the object you just created. Hit Copy. Go to file explorer. Paste the file (it pastes something called Scrap)
