<1> anyone recall what the package manager for debian was called again ?
<1> dpkg
<1> thank you
<2> hello all

<2> ki9a, r u here?
<1> yes
<2> hey man
<2> :D
<2> got a short q here
<2> (as usual)
<2> if i create threads, in inside thread i call CoInitialize(nil), wondering if it should be called for each thread of just overall?
<2> any suggestions?
<1> did y ou read the help on coInitialize?
<2> nah, just pressed the "ki9a" button :)
<1> hrmm
<1> I'll just ignore you then.
<2> ;) well its say it can be called multiple
<2> so i presume calling it for each thread is a good idea then ;)
<1> "NOTE You should probably use CoInitializeEx instead"
<2> oh, help didnt say that :/
<1> CoInitializeEx
<1> and p*** the Multi Thread
<1> parameter to it
<1> New applications should call CoInitializeEx instead of CoInitialize.
<1> hat's what mine says
<2> hehe, d6 doesnt even have it
<1> surely it does.
<2> ah, it was in d6 help not winsdk
<2> ;D
<1> weird
<2> erh, wasnt there either
<2> serached for CoInitializeEx
<2> nothing found... bah
<1> msdn onlinen
<2> hehe, well, speaking of threads, ive got a thread declaration and I execute it 3 times, now, you mean i defines the current threads handle in CoInitilizeEx or before the 3 threads are executed?
<2> erh... hm.
<2> that didnt make sense did it.
<2> nm, ill learn by doing :)
<1> just call it once
<1> but with CoInitializeEx
<1> + Multithreading support
<3> what is { called in english?
<1> curly
<3> thanks
<1> cirlce brackets
<1> curly brackets
<1> or braces
<1> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bracket
<0> heh
<0> all I done at work today is eating :|
<4> Is there a way i can change a property of descendant cl***es in one single command instead of ***igning values to em all individually? Can i change the ShowHint property for example with a single command?
<4> I have this menu-item "Show hint" and it is checked by default. If i click it, it should set the Showhint property to false on all objects within my main form, is there a easy way to do this?
<1> Why would anyone ever
<1> want to turn off show hints ?
<4> yeah
<1> Open questions cannot be answered with yes/no
<5> for n := 1 to ComponentCount do
<5> or better.. for i := 0 to myform.componentcount - 1 do
<4> right
<5> if myform.components[i] is tfoo then (myform.components[i] as tfoo).showhints := false else if myform.components[i] is tbar then (myform.components.[i] as tbar).showhints := false
<4> ok
<0> msocorcim
<1> hrmm
<1> our yearly "fair" has gotten a price this year
<1> town's fair

<1> which is weird
<1> since it doesnt start until the week after next one
<1> then again, they had since 1740
<1> to judge it
<6> how do i recover my p***word from freenode?
<1> did you check their FAQ?
<6> no i didnt
<6> will check now
<1> heh
<1> Tiny bit off topic
<7> ki9a: Didn't know if maybe you had to take up a 2nd job or something.
<1> hmm?
<1> don't understand. I'm a bit slow today. flu
<8> geez mysql ****ing ****s!
<1> Hrmm
<8> guess you get what you pay for
<1> hrmm
<1> by that statement firebird must really ****, which it doesn't.
<1> Mysql is like 2k per yer
<1> year
<8> mysql is retarted.
<9> why
<8> we got a box with 4 gigs of ram in it. for some dumb reason mysql on windows wont see above like 1.5 or 2 gigs or something like that. so its running along and goes to request memory and for whatever reason it thinks the OS said i dont have it. then the whole damn service crashes
<1> that's because windows doesn't allow more than 2 gb per process
<1> on x86
<8> replicationi s also ****ing stupid. i cant even get it going again unless i restore a fresh copy of the db to all the slaves
<8> ki9a: PAE
<8> MS SQL2k can use more than 2 gigs
<8> even if the os didnt, the whole ****ing service shouldnt crash
<1> I agree
<8> it even says in the mysql error logs "purposly crashing to generate log file on linux" what the ****?!?!? i am running windows moron
<1> why are you using mysql at all?
<8> because thats what the vendor of this product chose to develop on
<8> its the only supported backend for thier product
<1> lame :(
<8> very!
<8> i would have rather paid out the *** for oracle than keep dealing with this bull****
<1> or just mssql
<7> MAg69: Since you're stuck with it, pop into #mysql and see if anyone there knows anything.
<7> I wouldn't hold my breath, though.
<10> Hi guys
<1> "oooh a windows user"
<9> they prolly want 2k/year as well for irc support ;)
<8> this isnt the first time its happened either. its happened like 5 other times. one time we lost the whole damn database and the backups mysql generated were bad so we had to start all over. we couldnt use the data from the replicated servers because replication failed for some dumb reason like a week earlier.
<7> I hope you're not using mysqldump to backup.
<7> It ****s so much ***.
<8> Drk`Angel: tried that. all you get are a bunch of ***wipes saying "dude, run it on linux" thats not an option here.
<9> VMWare Linux to run MySQL ;)
<1> hah
<8> it was either Windows or Mac OS X. and i'll be damned if i run a server on Mac OS X
<7> Mag: Yeah, I figured it would either be that, or a bunch of clueless idiots.
<1> Mysql wasn't meant to be run
<7> ki9a: Its fine for low to medium volume DBs.
<1> doubt you'll get any answer
<8> apple puts out too many damn updates that break ****
<1> you guys have a support contract for mysql ?
<9> Apple is kinda smart trying to run Windows and Mac apps.. guess they realised they'd never beat M$
<7> Although this behavior just made be revise my opinion of mysql down a bit.
<8> ki9a: nope, its through the vendor who we bought the system from.
<8> they are clueless
<1> ah :(
<8> we have tried to use mysql for other things as well with nothing but failure
<8> i guess its good if you have the huge clusters for fault-tollerant fail over. thats probably why its pretty much free
<8> you gotta spend all the money you save on large clusters to keep it going
<1> it's not really free
<1> as soon as you use it for a commercial product
<1> you have to get a license
<1> since the client libs are gp
<1> gpl
<1> and server distribution too
<8> yeah we paid like $1000 for two licenses
<8> i would have rather paid $6000 for a stable MSSQL system
<7> Heck, use the free oracle.
