<0> http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12114_na/12114_na.HTML <1> hmmm you'd have to keep that monster plugged in. <1> I need something with a reasonable battery life too. <1> although... I do have an ac-inverter :-) <0> an external battery would be helpful too <2> zero-point module <2> :) <3> Solar panel on a hat. <0> a bicycle generator <1> *laugh* <1> I have one of those CrappyTire "Eliminator" battery pack w/inverter <1> my cpap machine lasts about 7 hrs on that. it consumes 3W continuous. <0> a P4 laptop requires about 70W <3> msocorcim I actually may get around to building one - then when kids want to watch TV, they gotta pedal.... <2> heh <2> healthy tv
<2> :) <3> Why not? <3> Fixes a number of problems <4> good luck getting 220V AC out of a bike :P <3> I've seen it done <3> Actually, the best way to do it is a 12V generator (from an old car -- alternators CAN work, but have complications) and then put an invertor on it. <3> Actually it was 110V out of a bike (US standard) but 220 wouldn't be any harder. <0> Mjolnir: http://www.gamebike.com/ <0> check it out <3> Yeah, but add a generator to that and you'd actually be doing something USEFUL. <3> Actually, one friend of mine has seven kids. If you got them all going I bet you could run half the house.... <2> heh <3> minus air conditioning <5> Heh... Reminds of the ESPN commercial. <3> I want to talk him into putting in some solar power, but he's balking at the front-end costs. (there are cheaper ways to do it than photovoltaic) <5> It shows the ESPN offices, and there's one guy left working. <1> Mjolnir: a generator for the tv would never work... but a wheel attached to a relay ... as in you can't turn it on unless you're pedaling might work. <3> DaynaGirl I've DONE the generator for a tv at a demonstration project. This is not theoretical. <5> Suddenly the power goes out, and he goes into the basement of the building and goes into the "high voltage" room, and there's Lance Armstrong, who says "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought everyone had gone home." <5> He starts pedaling, and the lights come back on. <0> heh <2> i wonder how many hamsters could do it <1> Mjolnir: hmmm. I've seen it done too... but eventually the tv blows up cuz the power is too variable... <2> thats y u use a capactiy <2> \capacitor <2> just means u have to start before you want <2> :) <6> http://kn00n.dk/delphi/error_parent.txt <--- can anyone take a look at this and perhaps tell me why it fails? <3> Actually, I'd add a battery in the loop with the invertor's safety cutout. That's why I put the invertor in the design - to protect against power problems. Connecting a generator designed to produce the power directly would have speed problems. <3> With a battery, it means you could actually get ahead and take rest breaks. <0> Vibes: did you see the cannondale link I posted? <0> http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/05/cusa/model-5RR9D.html <3> Nice bike, but for around here I'll stick with my mountain bike even if it does cost me some speed. <3> Though my bike is old enough, I doubt I can find an online pic of it. <5> some? :) <5> You know, I don't actually know enough about Campy parts to know whether that's a nice bike or not. <7> Vibes: Some of ESPN's ads are really good. :) <5> I know the Shimano line well, but not the campy. <3> Several kph, but it's VERY hilly here, and I like having lots of gears if nothing else. <3> Nothing is flat. <3> Actually, one path is - along the river - but that's like the lone exception. <5> Mjolnir: Have you ever spend significant time on a road bike? <7> I've discovered that we have a 20 mile long bike path here. <7> Part paved, part unpaved. <7> I must ride. :) <8> heh <5> You'll find that a road bike climbs a LOT better than a mountain bike. <5> The only time a mountain bike beats a road bike is when the ground is unstable. <7> Unless you're actually offroading, get a road bike. <7> Really. <5> Drk`Angel: Well, if you're serious about cycling, you need two bikes (at least). If you're only going to have one bike, get a mountain bike. <5> Because a mountain bike can go anywhere, and is going to be more comfortable for someone who isn't serious about it. <5> A road bike has an aggressive geometry that takes some getting used to, and you pretty much have to stay on pavement with it. <8> lack of tv series, lack of movies <0> Vibes: the only campy are the derailleurs, chain and c***ette, but yes, they seem to work fine :) <1> what do you guys think of gateway pcs? <8> heh <8> i thought they were broke <0> I was on my way to a sports consignment store to take a second look at an old miyata bike with shimano 600 series equipment and stopped on impulse at a pawnshop and found the cannondale <5> msocorcim: Oh, that's your bike?
<0> as of yesterday <5> DaynaGirl: I'd reccommend Dell over Gateway based entirely on customer service experience, not product quality. <5> msocorcim: Cool. Got a computer on it? <0> it came with a cateye enduro 2 something or other - no cadence, a bolt on aero-bar and a seatpost rear led lamp <0> the computer showed 96 miles and that agrees with the tire wear on the original hutchinsons <5> Cool. Put a thousand miles on by the end of the year, and I'll be impressed. :) <8> King Tut's necklace was shaped by a fireball <8> http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,19585593-30417,00.html <0> that's 2 months riding ;p <5> You ride that much? <0> 2 30's during the week and a 50 on the weekend <8> From the Scary News department: <8> The feeling of being watched makes people act more honestly, even if the eyes are not real, a study suggests. <5> Cool. You ride as much as I do. :) <3> <--- one bike person, thus the mountain bike <8> "A noted terror expert has told the BBC that Mohammed Siddique Khan, the alleged ringleader of the 7/7 London bombings, was working for British intelligence agency MI5 as an informant at the time of the attacks." <0> ki9a: they ought to dock his pay! <8> heh <8> "LONDON: Scientists believe they have solved the mystery surrounding a piece of rare natural gl*** at the centre of an elaborate necklace found among the treasures of Tutankhamun, the boy pharaoh. <8> They think a fragile meteorite broke up as it entered the atmosphere, producing a fireball with temperatures over 1800C that turned the desert sand and rock into molten lava that became gl*** when it cooled. " <3> So he tattled on the terrorists he didn't like. <0> and/or gave misinformation <3> ki9a Perhaps, but having something like that go by is like having a bomb go off. I guess since the fragment is small I can go with it, but IMO the shockave would have stirred things up pretty good. <8> Mjolnir: :) <9> anyone know when the PS3 will be release, and its price? <0> manye the pyramids are bomb shelters? <0> s/manye/maybe/ <8> "SAO PAULO, Brazil - A grouping of granite blocks along a gr***y Amazon hilltop may be the vestiges of a centuries-old astronomical observatory a find archaeologists say indicates early rainforest inhabitants were more sophisticated than previously believed." <9> just bought a 37" LCD, I figured why stop there :) <3> ki9a One cool thing I did a few years ago was visit the meteor crater out in Arizona - it was the first crater that people figured out was actually caused by such. The blast area was quite something to behold. <8> I saw a picture of that one <8> was huge <3> But why I say that a broken up meteor would create a blast - see the Tunguska explosion of 1908. <3> That was a preview of what a 20 megaton nuke does to things. <3> ki9a Yeah. It's very impressive in person. If you're ever in the states and go see like the Grand Canyon, this isn't all that far away from that. <8> hrmm maybe in a few years. <0> http://www.meteorcrater.com/ <3> Actually, I'd suggest see it first. The Grand Canyon is so big that it'll distort everything you see after it. It's huge beyond description. <8> :) We'll see. <8> this year I'll be visiting florida <8> bit far away from the grand canyon <3> When? <9> ki9a: I hope no sooner that Nov-Oct <8> when the odds of a huricane are highest <9> :) <8> july/aug <8> begin aug <3> I ought to invite you up to a high power rocket launch. <3> However that'd be a couple of states north. <3> Basically you'd go north on I95 for a fair bit. <8> for a day or so? <3> yeah <8> doubt my friends would like that <8> we're only there for like 12 days. <3> Not rocket types? Oh well. <10> ello <8> not the "stay in the car for a day" types <8> ey crc <11> can I send someone a file to test upload speed? <3> Oh. Um, what part of Florida are you visiting? <3> I thought you meant the length of the event. <11> from UK :/ <8> Mjolnir: ooh I was talking about how long from orlando :) <10> found some page which contained measurements of the index of refraction for some metals at various wavelengths, and was able to compute approximate numbers for RGB, and then use this in a physically based renderer (pbrt.org which came with the book) <10> results were nice i thought <8> orlando and miami <10> http://lordcrc.no-ip.com/public/buddhagold.jpg <3> Orlando.... <10> http://lordcrc.no-ip.com/public/buddhacopper.jpg <3> From miami it'd be a full day. Lemme see from orlando <10> (first one is slightly grainier, i upped the quality for the lower a lot) <4> it looks like fake gold tho <10> Mithandir: might be the gamma setting, i lowered it slightly on the copper one <10> lemme do the same to the gold
