<0> I need your help.
<1> ?
<2> My mother wants a printer doesn't want to spend a lot of money initially or ongoing for cartridges... any recomendations?
<3> IBM ProPrinter 3
<3> *blast from the past*
<3> but that was a good printer .P
<4> DaynaGirl: I'd say there are two options: 1. Spend the money up front on a laser printer and then get good performance for reasonable price for toner cartridges, or 2. Spend very little up front on an inkjet printer and then get raped by high prices and poor performance on ink cartridges.

<1> (NSFW)
<5> hey! stupid xchat
<6> Does anyone have the Windows SDK for Vista? Particularly, the header file for dwmapi.dll?
<5> vista... phooey.
<5> go CentOS! go Fedora!
<7> aloha
<4> *YAWN*
<7> hey vibes. wow you must be up late over there

<4> 6:51 pm.
<4> Hardly late.
<7> hm
<7> ok
<4> I just made a list of all the builtin types and functions in the Delphi compiler... it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be.
<7> types I can see but functions in the compiler?
<4> Yeah.
<4> Ord, High, Low, Abs, Length, Trunc, etc...
<7> vista is so slow in a virtual pc. slower than I expected
<7> doing a bit of testing and it's pretty unbearable
<4> VPC or VMWare?
<7> VPC
<4> Have you tried in VMWare?
<7> no, I had VPC on hand so I used it
<4> Provided there's enough RAM, VMWare machines tend to run pretty close to native speed.
<4> Ah, VMWare is vastly superior to VPC, I think.
<7> I know it's disk performance is supposed to be better but I didn't know about he cpu performance part
<7> may be worth a reinstall
<5> Evening Dayna (wherever you are)
<7> I've actually got half an urge to upgrade to vista today on my real pc
<7> I'm just concerned that it will break my Delphi 7
<7> couple of posts on the net show it didn't work on the beta's well at all
<4> When I run XP in VMWare here, as long as there's enough free RAM that it doesn't have to do a ton of swapping, it feels about as fast as the native machine.
<4> protektor: See if you can get ahold of daedo. He's the local expert on Delphi in Vista.
<7> will do.
<4> Wrote some articles and stuff on it. If anyone will know how to help, it's him.
<7> ah god damn it they changed "Documents and Settings" to "Users"
<7> this actually affects me
<8> protektor If I remember correctly there are two fixes you need to D7 to make it run ok under Vista. There may be more by now, but the ones I remember make a Delphi app work better with DWM.
<7> DWM?
<8> Desktop Window MAnager
<1> hey protie
<7> ah
<7> hiya RadSurfer
<7> er Rahly
<5> haha
<5> have a cookie
<7> thanks :)
<8> protektor Check out http://www.installationexcellence.com/articles/VistaWithDelphi/index.html
<7> hmm I'm seeing a lot of workarounds in there
<8> There are more now apparently.
<8> Go to the original article for what I was talking about.
<7> thanks muchly
<8> IMO the most critical issues are the hidden window issues and font sizes.
<7> also seems that InnoSetup installers don't shutdown properly
<9> morning girls
<9> :)
<1> kewl
<9> You know, I used to like PHP
<9> now i find it hideously tedious and messy
<7> you fool
<7> holy god the popup security confirmations in vista are annoying
<7> 3 dialogs to run a setup from a remote share
<7> 2 dialogs to copy a file!
<8> Looks like InnoSetup 5.1.10 will handle most of the basic Vista issues, but it hasn't been released yet. Does the exit failure exist in 5.1.9 or just earlier versions?
<9> hehe
<7> well I'm using innosetup 4 series so...
<8> Looks like it 5.1.9 was the first to deal with Vista and it's security elevation requirements.
<8> Hrm. Now that I'm looking, I probably ought to upgrade. I'm on 5.0.8....
<9> I think I'm on the 5.1.x line
<9> yah 5.1.9

<9> :)
<8> For those of us experienced with Inno, is it worth getting ISTool?
<9> No
<7> yes
<7> ISTool is excellent
<9> I find manually doing it quicker
<7> just makes evreything faster
<9> ISFD is good though
<9> (Form Designer)
<9> That reminds me I need to finish my .NET modules for Inno so it can detect the framework and download if not present :/
<7> oh I've got one for that already done blade if you want it
<7> .net 2, mdac, etc
<7> it's pure inno code
<9> Nah i'm already far along
<7> meh ok
<7> just as an fyi, mine's already been deployed over 10,000 times..
<7> successfully :)
<9> Mine comes with love, does yours?
<9> :P
<7> for you bladey, anything
<9> meh i really hate php and paypal
<8> Hrm. Given that you can still change the script directly, looks like ISTool won't interfere if you don't want it to.
<7> exactly
<1> i'm all for boobies
<9> I was going to write an all singing all dancing IDE for Inno
<9> along with one of my many other projects
<7> do one for NANT instead
<9> that basically did what the compiler, ISTool and ISFD does
<9> I hate NANT
<7> we all do
<9> Use it as part of CruiseControl
<7> which is why it needs a decent IDE
<7> writing nant scripts is like being pricked by millions of tiny pins over and over again
<1> it would be kewl for .NET to have a built in editor control
<9> acupuncture? :)
<7> no, tinier and more annoying
<9> Rahly: like the one in the framework already?
<1> theres only the one that comes with Visual Studio, but you can't install that everywhere
<9> I use the text editor from SharpDevelop
<1> GPL
<7> GPL? *runs away screaming*
<1> heh
<7> strange. I've got a .net app that crashes on startup in vista
<7> but the previous build of it works fine
<1> lol
<1> thats vista for you
<7> no changes that I can really think of, except the new one was built using a NANT script
<1> vista will also ruin your ipod too
<7> don't own one, so I'm ok there
<9> iPod's are evil
<9> so that's good
<1> "Apparently, if you try to 'safely remove' your iPod from a Vista-installed PC, there's a chance you may corrupt the little music player."
<9> heh
<9> Vista++
<7> I'm sure that was an accident
<9> I keep it in my VMware
<9> and don't let it out
<1> protie: probably, but most people are going to blame MS though
<5> Does anyone understand "supernatural"
<9> wow I just found a torrent to all 19 albums of Clannad
<9> kewl
<9> Rad: the show? Yes
<1> i found a torrent for every episode of DuckTales
<5> the little kid, whats he about
<9> really?
<9> nice
<1> yup
<9> give it me
<9> :D
<5> YES gimmee!
<7> RadSurfer: just think of a dumbed down, less scary and with no conrpiracy version of xfiles
<1> http://www.mininova.org/tor/319272
<5> I know da show!
<9> prot: well its what x files started like
