<0> try: dpkg-reconfigure locales
<1> http://rafb.net/paste/results/H69Qfv87.html
<1> dossent work
<1> but i do it already and works now
<2> re
<3> hey everyone... I'm having some trouble with apt-get... I'm trying to install kdelibs4-dev, but it keeps giving me broken packages.. I've tried using only stable servers in sources.list, and I've also tried using only unstable.. I've tried adding servers from different countries.. I've also googled for an answer for about two hours, but I can't seem to find anything.. Can anyone in here help me? :S
<0> lool
<3> que?
<3> :D
<0> dude, the only thing i can conclude is: reinstall
<0> no one is gonna bother with this mess
<3> seriously?? reinstall the entire dist?
<0> yes
<3> no no no! :D
<0> and read about how debian works at debian.org :)
<0> before you even think about doing what you just did

<3> did I **** it up completely?
<0> yes, to summarize it correctly.
<0> what you did is the following:
<3> hmm.. just by playing with the sources.list file?
<3> sounds a little drastic, but I guess I should read up on my Debian :D
<0> imagine a doctor operating on your body, he is blindfolded and goes replacing your organs with those of dogs and cats, giving you cola instead of blood of your type, then cleaning you with floor-spray and sewing your body with a knive and a rusty wire.
<0> i hope this makes it clear
<0> the only difference is that you can re-install else you'd be dead :)
<3> HAHAHAHA!! I guess that's bad.. But it's true.. I am blindfolded.. :D
<0> so without getting all technical, you know now why i said re-install :)
<0> it's possible to fix it, but the only ppl you'll find in this galaxy who know debian need to be payed ;)
<3> okay.. But one quick question before I do that.. I can install just about any other package (I've just installed Xchat after the problems with kdelibs), and if I reinstall the dist, and set the sources.list to "deb ftp://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable non-free", and then try to use "apt-get install kdelibs4-dev", then am I not going to get the exactly same response: "E: Broken packages"??
<0> if you install sarge (read: stable) and you don't mess the sources then it'll be fine
<4> also run apt-get update after editing sources.list
<3> mutante.. I always do..
<1> hi ? need some help with apt-get install. i cant install perl if i try to install this error will displayed: http://paste.anbcs.com/4531
<0> i ***ume you're running unstable ?
<4> apt-get install perl-base ?
<1> also came an error mutante_ i try it wait i will post you the msg
<4> oh,nevermind
<1> wait
<0> hope that solves the problem too :)
<5> no
<0> and now ?
<6> now is the time... goto google and use your brain
<0> :-)
<7> e-mettal?
<7> heavy metal?
<0> and for those who fall for it, it's a scam, when you go to pay their 0.15 $ fee they'll show you a replica of the real e-gold site, to steel your login/p***
<0> you can see they didn't even bother to replace the url
<8> hi
<8> letme know about a good browser thats not opera, not konqueror and not firefox/mozilla!
<0> lynx

<0> and choose :)
<8> k :)
<8> thnx
<8> is there a good C IDE for KDE, with gdb support?
<0> google :)
<0> believe Kdevelop is a nice one
<9> anyone having problem to get http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/i386/bt-dvd/ ?
<9> is cdimage.debian.org gonna be down long? O.o
<10> no connection right now
<0> why not choose some other mirror ?
<11> thanks buddy
<12> what's going on with Unstable's kdelibs* packages, anything known or am i in some weird weird state?
<13> probably the fact that it's *UNSTABLE*
<13> heh
<12> fair, is there another channel to discuss this in? #debianunstable or something?
<13> irc.freenode.net #debian
<12> i think someone messed up the deps on kdelibs42ca
<12> ok thx
<13> np
<14> omg debian doodz r u da haxiest of dem all?!?!?!?!!?!!!!!!!!
<14> OR NO
<14> TEL DA TRU

<15> ia64 for 64bit proccesor?
<16> or amd64, yes
<16> depending on your situtation
<16> situation, rather
<15> yeah, i have amd64 athlon
<15> ia64 recommended then?
<17> Hey, is there anyone here that can answer 2 short questions for me??
<13> no no no
<16> peder_: i thought i just answered that
<13> jcl is telling you lies
<17> Is debian 4.0 etch??
<16> ferro is an aussie, dont believe him
<16> ;)
<15> jcl - you did.. thansk;)
<17> is debian 4.0 etchhh?
<16> debian25: yes but its not released yet
<13> ia64 is Intel's try at their own 64bit arch, they failed and moved to EM64T arch which uses the AMD64 core. If you're using a new 64bit chip (intel) use the amd64 arch, if you're using a 64bit (AMD), use the amd64 arch
<13> if you're using an old school 64bit intel chip, you may need the ia64 port
<17> ok, so if I install etch now, and in december or whenever it turns stable I do an apt-get upgrade, i'll technically be on 'stable'??
<13> yep
<16> hrmph. i didnt know they switched.
<17> Because im sick of using backports, and etch seems more stable than a titanium mule (that's good)
<13> yeah, it should be very stable atm
<16> mmhm
<16> im just waiting on a few amd64 packages to get finished before i start using it
<16> hell they might even be done by now
<17> Some guy that said he was with debian told me all they have to do is finish making the art, but he had no way of proving he was with debian, so it might not be true
<15> ferro - i cant find anything else then ia64, where is amd64 arch ?
<16> peder_: it isnt released yet ;)
<16> etch will have the official amd64 port available
<13> http://www.us.debian.org/ports/amd64/
<15> ah.. so I shall use ia64 for now?
<13> no
<16> peder_: youre silly
<13> ia64 will probably not even work on your computer
<13> it's like using a ppc port on an x86 arch
<17> Why is http://cdimage.debian.org/ down for me??
<13> because it's down atm
<17> Where can I get the etch net install discs?
<13> there are many mirror sites
<17> With net install I think I get the latest packages anyhow
<16> ferro: did FireEgl change the dcc chat ports or something recently
<16> also, satellite ****s if anyone was wondering
<17> indeed
<13> http://www.us.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/
<17> ty
<13> jcl, dunno, you'll have to ask him
<18> bah. he is never around or i would ;)
<17> I dont get it, I live in canada, yet I get 50x faster with US mirrors
<13> read up on network fundamentals ;)
<16> debian25: i could see that happening in some circumstances
<16> mmhm
<17> Hey, im just going to paste this link, can you verify its the net install for etch?
<17> http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/etch_di_beta2/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso
<13> look at the URL
<17> I am, but ti says beta2 installer
<16> i would suggest using the weekly builds
<13> because etch isn't released as stable yet
<17> jcl: im net installing
<16> im pretty sure net inst has weekly builds
<17> jcl: burning 8+ CDs ****s
<17> and nope
<16> um
<17> http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
<16> ok i give up
<17> look
<13> if you read the installer manual, you'd know you only need the first cd to install debian
<13> ***umptions just make you look like an ***hat
<13> <3:D
<17> ferro: Why would I use the 1/w.e CDs if I can just net install
<13> ascii representation of an ***hat
<17> it looks like a hearthat btw
<13> "debian25> jcl: burning 8+ CDs ****s"
