<0> Anyone here use vmware?
<1> Oern: you have been coming into this channel for about a year now
<1> and tbh quite frank (you can be jane) you are starting to piss me off
<1> ask?
<2> If you have a question, just ask away on channel. If somebody knows, they'll answer :) For best results, be specific, informative, complete, concise and on-topic! Don't ask if you can ask a question first. Also don't ask if anyone uses/knows about foo. Please don't be demanding or insulting. Remember, we're all volunteers. Finally, please don't /msg people without permission or demand an answer from one particular person. Thanks!
<1> read that
<1> if you dont, ill permban you
<1> ill know if you dont use what it says
<0> oh sorry
<0> I have compiled my own kernel which I would guess is missing something (I dont know what though). I'm trying to install vmware which want to compile its vmmon module. However it fails. So I wonder if anyone know what I need to have in my kernel to compile the module?
<1> now thats better
<0> I'll post the exact error.. sek
<1> all its missing is an errormsg or a link to an error msg for the module
<1> see
<0> I'm running the compile again to get the error..

<0> http://oern.mine.nu/tmp/log.txt
<0> I posted the error here
<0> I've tried the vmware-any-any patch, but it does not help me
<0> I reposted the error here: http://pastebin.com/717987 I noticed the other link did not work
<1> see, now you can get help, easily on other chans as well, if need be
<1> this channel is btw most active between our 18.00-03.00 cet
<3> downgrade kernel
<0> nagual: good to know
<3> 2.6.16.1 is proven to work at laest
<3> s/laest/least/
<0> ah, I'll try that
<3> i had the same problem
<3> but downgrading helped
<1> rza: i typed to you above
<3> vmware isnt tackling kernel changes often enough
<3> sec
<3> 09:39 <@nagual> rza: so the thing is, most of the factoids in punani are bs anyway
<3> this one?
<0> I hope you're right
<0> thanks
<3> Oern: why do you need to hope im right?
<3> im always right
<1> rza: yea
<0> hehe
<0> good!
<1> rza is always left
<3> nagual: someone would need to trough them manually
<1> rza: not really. if we follow the suggestions i gave (which is more or less a edited copy of fbsds handbook, wed need to just fill in that, and can get the factoids from punani and fill them out
<1> but i dont have time until later this week to start this out
<1> Deryl said something that might be able to help us too
<3> sharepoint services?
<1> hm
<1> yea
<1> i dont know what that is though
<3> i thought sharepoint is something like CVS
<1> i dont know
<1> but like i sayd
<1> later this week
<1> this is going to be cool
<1> im billy the kid, ill make you famous
<3> famous last words
<1> did you see my new haircut?
<3> no i didnt
<3> showing off the new phone :D
<1> everyone here knows already i have that ;-)
<1> i been nagging enough about it :)
<3> pff one of these days i will drown into papers on my desk
<1> yea, that must be tough
<1> :)
<4> .
<5> :)
<0> does the package kernel-image-2.6.8-3-686 contain security updates and bugfixes found in later versions of the kernel?
<3> punani: pinning?
<2> pinning is, like, 'man apt_preferences', or add testing and unstable lines to sources.list, create /etc/apt/preferences containing "Package: *\nPin: release a=testing\nPin-Priority: 900\n\nPackage: *\nPin: release o=Debian\nPin-Priority: -10\n", then apt-get install foo/unstable, or at http://www.debian.org/News/weekly/2002/4/mail#1, or read http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/debian-devel-200212/msg00659.html
<6> I'm trying to use a SCSI tape drive from linux; what's its device name likely to be? /dev/sd?
<0> I can happily inform you that I could compile the vmware kernel module using kernel 2.6.17 :)
<1> Oern: see how easy it is to get help using what i taught you?
<0> yeah
<0> sorry. I know the policy but I just forget sometimes
<1> thats not what you need to do
<5> has anyone here used pyblosxom? :)

<5> nagual: my right eye is swollen :(
<1> is your bf about to be made dead by me?
<5> no
<1> allergy?
<5> not that i know of :o
<5> i feel like a pirate with one eye
<5> and i need to go to the store later to buy food :p
<1> a pirate chick
<1> ***y
<1> well, pirates are all popular now
<5> haha
<1> pirates of the carribean is coming out soon
<5> i know
<5> =)
<1> piratpartiet.se
<1> etc
<1> so you might get extremely more popular
<5> so I can send them to the university and go home to Senilix :)
<3> youre breaking my heart
<5> good :)
<1> with what?
<2> with what are you programed ?
<1> punani forget with what
<2> nagual: i forgot with what
<1> punani status
<2> Since Thu Jun 8 21:54:51 2006, there have been modifications and questions and dunnos and moron and commands. I have been awake for d h m s this session, and currently reference 86 factoids. I'm using about 96 kB of memory.
<1> 23k factoids, and most of them are bs like the above :)
<3> nagual: "go home to Senilix"
<1> ;>
<5> s/is/are/
<1> you think he has that kind of power midget?
<5> nagual: heh, it's not about power but about the way he acts :)
<1> yea, he has power to keep girls out of the project
<7> how does switch act if let's say 4 ports are working in 100 and 1 in 10 mb/s ... what if the data must go from the 4 ports to the 1 port of 10mb/s constantly? will it drop the frames?
<1> what frames
<1> and why would it drop anything
<7> becouse the speed differs
<1> if its a bad swithc it might drop some packages, but if its decent or good, it just queues
<1> but on the other hand
<1> this isnt the forum for that, is it
<1> ask in #freebsdhelp
<1> they have some very good networking jockeys
<1> and tell mamatried i say hello
<7> ok, thanks ;)
<0> I just installed debian and now I want to replace grub with lilo. I removed grub, installed lilo ran liloconfig. But liloconfig say: Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not match '/dev' directory structure. Name change: '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc' -> '/dev/hda' and does not install the mbr. When I reboot I still have the grub bootloader. Any ideas what is wrong?
<8> you have to do 'lilo -M /dev/hda && lilo'
<0> Ok I'll try that...
<0> nm: It installed the bootloader but when I reboot the computer all it prints out is "L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 ...." on the screen
<8> 99 invalid second stage index sector (LILO)
<8> paste your lilo.conf and menu.lst on pastebin.com
<5> Oern: why lilo and not grub?
<0> I am familiar with lilo
<0> nm: ok, sec..
<5> Oern: you can learn with grub aswell, i don't see the reason to change :)
<0> erm, I cant paste it because I cant start the computer :) I'll have to reinstall first
<8> thats not the topic of his problem ;) i also still prefer lilo instead of grub
<5> nm: i know it's not the topic, but i still want to know why some choose lilo over grub :)
<0> nm: I'll paste the files as soon as I've reinstalled the computer
<1> yea, nothing like booting into singeluser mode and fixing the bootstuff
<1> zz
<9> is there a easy way to download a directory with wget ?
<0> -r I think
<9> trying to test icecast2 and configure it so it works.
<9> I have been trying some hours without geting it to work.
<9> i mean to remember that it was apt-get --purge remove program
<9> to get it removed 100% complete?
<0> dpkg --purge
<0> and apt-get remove
<9> So i cant use apt-get --purge remove program ?
<0> no you use dpkg --purge to fully remove the program (including configs)
<0> apt-get remove will ask you if you want to remove whatever's dependencies also
<8> apt-get remove --purge package
