<0> punani updatedb is the name db of the tool locate, which you can use to find files. We recommend, if you are going to use it, to use it in a cronscript. Better yet, do a find / > file.txt in a cron.1~
<1> okay, nagual
<2> Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
<2> when i laucnh firefox from console

<2> how can you check if your running sarge or woody?
<3> check your /etc/debian_version file. I do suggest having a google before asking questions ;)

<4> hello
<4> i've forwarded a port to a network box, how can i somehow ping that port and see where it (what internal ip) ends up?
<5> bugiam: :o
<5> you can nmap your lan .. or telnet the port ..
<4> thanks
<6> hey, i saw some time ago an x-server by novel, that created a cube-like desktop. can somebody point me to the name?
<7> punani: xgl
<1> i heard xgl is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xgl http://sonique54.free.fr/xgl/xgl.htm and for a pretty video dl http://people.freedesktop.org/~davidr/xgl-demo1.xvid.avi
<7> that last link is probably the video you are reffering to
<6> yes, perfect. thanks
<4> hello
<4> anyone know how to kill mysql?
<8> ps -aux
<8> kill <mysql pid>
<4> thanks Tsunami
<9> or /etc/init.d/mysql-server stop tbh
<4> anyone know how to get back to shwll when i've done mysqld --skip-grant-tables?
<6> i am wondering what's debian's attaitude toward ubuntu. Are they "partners" or are they in "concurrence2
<0> neither
<0> and i dont know that debian can have an attitude
<0> its a linuxdistribution
<0> it might get horny sometimes though
<6> no attitudes... but ***ual feelings.
<6> sounds fair
<7> voici: ubuntu is the little energeitc kid
<7> while debian does "love" ubuntu, it also realise that ubuntu is a little naive but might ultimately develope into a good distribution when it gets a few years behind it
<7> that's the family relationship between ubuntu and gentoo
<7> errrr
<7> no
<7> s/gentoo/debian
<7> how the HELL did I write gentoo instead of debian?
<8> omg, punish urself :p
<7> that made me sick
<10> if someone wants to make himself famous by showing some unique ability, can you say he "wants to DISCRIMINATE himself"?
<8> wth?
<1> What The Hell is wth?
<8> :p
<0> punani forget wth
<1> i forgot wth, nagual
<0> wth?
<0> punani lock wth
<11> wtf?
<12> we do
<12> what msg do you have for us today ?
<13> BOOYA
<13> er, afternoon
<14> How do I enable to network cards with different Ips to work on my debian computer? I have 2 nics with different ips but only one is pingable from the outside :(
<7> ...
<7> you want /etc/network/interfaces
<14> I have: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp
<7> man interfaces
<14> and the same for eth1, both gets ip when I check in ifconfig, but eth1 is not pingable fron the outside
<7> heh
<7> then you might have a routing issue somewhere along the line
<7> punani: ask
<1> If you have a question, just ask away on channel. If somebody knows, they'll answer :) For best results, be specific, informative, complete, concise and on-topic! Don't ask if you can ask a question first. Also don't ask if anyone uses/knows about foo. Please don't be demanding or insulting. Remember, we're all volunteers. Finally, please don't /msg people without permission or demand an answer from one particular person. Thanks!
<7> the "specific, informative, complete and concise" is something you should look into
<7> hard to help you when you don't give any information beyond a rough overview
<14> okey, im new to this and havent ever done anything like this so its hard to explain further sorry :(
<15> you could start with pasting your /etc/network/interfaces http://pastebin.ca/

<7> and ifconfig
<7> and route
<7> and traceroutes
<14> http://pastebin.ca/138930
<14> there it is
<14> dont know where to get traceroutes info though :(
<7> great work
<7> you censored out the parts which matter
<7> and left the rest out
<0> oh ****
<0> they just released fear combat
<0> which is a free online fps game
<0> and very good one
<7> hmm
<16> combatting fear. hunh.
<0> i have totally owned each map i played today, even though i just installed it
<7> ste-g: at least give the last digit
<0> i looooooooooove it when they say 'you cheat!'
<14> ok
<7> ste-g: you may want to run tcpdump -i eth1 while you're pinging the machine too, to see if it reaches it or not
<16> yo, nag, I made linux to linux printing work -- but not with samba. I couldn't figure out samba printer sharing to linux. I just used cups. I configured the server conf on the computer with the printer and the client conf on the other computer.
<16> the server conf just needed the ip of the client, and the client conf just needed the ip of the server. simple.
<7> I see that it does have 528 received, and 17 sent, which I asume is dhcp requests (sent) and pign received
<7> s/pign/ping
<16> pigeon
<14> tried it kristian, didnt say anything when pinging. http://pastebin.ca/138940
<14> new one
<14> hope the digits is enough?
<7> that should do it...
<7> but you're saying that you were running tcpdump on eth1 while pinging the ip, without seeing any ping requests ?
<14> its was flooded with stuff, but didnt notice any change while pinging from the outside, or did you mean I should ping locally?
<7> start localy
<14> is it possible to filter it cause its flooding with some kind of requests from my isp
<7> yeah, you can filter it
<7> what's your isp flooding it with ?
<13> Kristian:)
<7> hey Napta__ :)
<13> how goes
<7> oh, the usual I guess
<13> cool cool
<14> http://pastebin.ca/138958
<14> thats the stuff
<13> ARP
<13> number 2 is arp.. it's a vital function, ste-g
<13> every customer will get ARP requests with cable isps
<7> ste-g: just add "icmp" to the tcpdump command
<13> you should just tell your firewall to not log arp
<7> ste-g: that will make it only print icmp
<7> Napta__: it's not logging it
<13> oh sorry, i sort of jumped in mid -way
<13> :)
<7> we're trying to figure out where the hell his traffic goes
<7> if anywhere
<13> ahh
<13> my bad :)
<13> what does traceroute show ?
<13> er
<13> hsrp
<14> icmp 40: echo request seq 8192
<14> it said that ones
<14> then the ping stops
<14> and times out
<14> from the outsida
<7> does it work from inside ?
<14> isnide doesnt show up in tcpdump
<14> but it gets answers
<14> 64 bytes from 213.XXX.XX.228: icmp_seq=41 ttl=64 time=0.029 ms
<7> err, you're using tcpdump on the right interface ?
<7> sigh, forget it
<7> this is takeing too long
<14> yes I am, okey I understand, thanks for the time though, appriciate it, Ill go to google ;)
<16> I just installed wine in Sarge and my terminal in X (for my standard user) gives me non-ascii characters for lower-case letters. How can I restore my terminal to its previous, standard performance?
<12> try using: reset or tset
