Thats a hard question to answer, but I dont know the 1st step to making one. I googled, and it just made me more and more confused <8> I have a 5 static block of ip's and a static ip for the cable modem <6> bigs: try googling for a guide on how to set up squid. <2> bigs: you want your linux machine to act as a router for your lan? <8> I allready have a firewall <8> and webmin <2> :( <6> *runs away screaming* <8> webmin I think might help me make a proxy <8> no no, someone else set it up for me <8> But i do have the Firebox SOHO 6 <8> and I configured that <8> with a little help <6> you lost me at webmin.. :p <6> like i said.. google up something for squid :) <6> or privoxy <8> I have squid installed apparently <6> personally i love squid. Pick your favourite when you've tried them both <8> never used webmin? <8> its pretty cool <2> ya.. I suggest uninstalling it. <8> remote gui to controll ur unix box <8> why? <6> i second RedACEs advice.. <8> exploitable? <6> limited is the right word i suppose <6> and messy <8> works great on my buddys system <2> if you know what you're doing, you don't need it <2> if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't use it because you won't learn <9> webmin has "issues"..... dont trust it <9> learn how to use linux properly.... <10> webmin is silly <11> and has a history of exploits <11> if you absolutely need a web gui, maybe rather "Plesk" (Confixx ****s too ;) <12> webmin is a woman <12> hidden in the body of g0at <12> so don't trust it <12> :-) <8> ok <8> point taken <4> how can i encrypt all the files in a directory using openssl <4> i usually do "openssl enc -encryption_method -in myfile -o myfile.encrypted" <13> hmmm, in screenrc when starting a new window how do you make it start in an alternate directory <13> or change dirs elsewhere <13> screen 1 cd blah doesn't wotk <14> good question <14> never try that <13> it can run a binary in your path but not exec shell commands, weird <15> weird indeed, pwd works there and cd doesnt.. <15> how about putting the "cd /dir/" in a script <13> tried that too
<15> screen 1 bash;cd /dir/ <15> ew, i'm sorry, returned to same screen window eh <14> Robi: you have your screen start up on boot? <14> that's what I want to do but it's not simple either :( <13> no, just on first login, if it's not running already <14> Robi: found it <13> oh? <14> in screenrc <14> chdir newdir <14> screen <14> chdir <14> to go back <14> to home <14> thanx for a good question <14> I got a question too. How do I append an x amount of 0 bytes to a file? <13> x*0=0 <13> or make a sparse file <14> bytes of value zero <13> write a small while loop echoing "0" <16> I'm trying to get python2.4 installed on debian. It works with apt-get, but socket.ssl is missing. I've spent time googling the issue, but can't find anything. Does anyone know what might be going on/where I might look for more info? Thanks. <14> dd from /dev/zero is less painful then <13> bbml gotta go to linuxworld <13> wada, yep <14> have fun Robi <13> will od <13> do <2> perl -e 'print "0"x5' >> file <17> hostchange? <2> hmm <2> :o <2> temporary <2> can't fix it from here <17> you dont need to, you are equally welcome here :) <17> redace are you on th edrivingdebian list? <2> nope. what is it? <17> there are a few of us who thought that the docs for linux (including debian) are ****e <17> so we decided to do something about it <17> we are looking for people with a few good traits <17> like <17> ability to write articles <17> a gfx designer <17> anda few others <17> interested? <2> I'm pretty busy these days. I have a lot of stuff going on :/ <2> Using a wiki? <17> well <17> its going to be something like a wikie <17> we are currently modifying it <17> cause we have irc access, chances are we have better feedback than most other projects <18> i wouldnt mind helping where i could <17> oh yea? <17> msg me your email please <17> ill add you to the list <2> have a bot monitor rss feed on the recent changes page of the wiki and output changes to the channel <17> RedACE: why <2> I thought you wanted feedback to irc? <17> oh <17> from users, in order to increase qualituy of the docs <2> oh I see <18> there are so many articles scattered all over the www on how to fix odd little debian related problems. it will be nice to put them all in one place <5> and some definitive debian handbook ;) <2> Just do like most distros and store your manual across all the servers on the internet! =) <17> accel420: yea, tahts on of the thints we are planning on doing <14> anyone have prism54 running currently? <19> I'm trying to install debian on Asus A8N-VM Board, it doesn't find any working driver module.. google says "use forcedeth" - but that doesn't work for me - any ideas? <19> I forgot, ment the NIC module <18> NETWORK: <18> As I imagine many of you know, the A8N-VM and A8N-VM CSM may use different drivers. I have the A8N-VM and the forcedeth drivers included in 2.6.15 and above (forcedeth .47 and above) work without an issue. For the A8N-VM CSM, I'm not sure if the forcedeth driver works, but I have heard that the nvidia nforce drivers work. Your mileage may vary. <18> thats alli can find <18> fantazia: everywhere seems to point to the forcedeth driver
