<0> anyone with experience on PCIe parallel port cards? <1> Hi, where can I download a dvd image of debian that would support a SATA hard drive in a laptop <2> get etch <2> cdimage.debian.org <2> current testing <1> it says 3.1_r4, would that be right? <2> yes <2> no <2> you want testing <3> etch daily build should work <3> but hasnt etch been frozen? doesnt that effect the daily builds? <2> bugs are fixed <3> oh right so the dailys are still being updated/ <4> hi, how do i sort by memory used in top? <5> no-one knows because it's DEFINITLY not documented anywhere <5> (that's a clever way of saying rtfm)
<6> I'm trying to install the Eclipse IDE for Java but when I run apt-get install eclipse-sdk it says it can't find that package. I suspect it has something to do with it being in the "unstable" branch but I have unstable listed in my /etc/apt/sources.list and it still isn't working. What do I need to do in order to get this package? <6> I have this line in my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable contrib non-free <6> I also tried apt-get install eclipse and I get the same error <5> if you have to ask, you should NOT be using unstable. <6> there is no other version for eclipse and i want it <5> ok, well that makes everything much better <5> or not <6> What is preventing me from being able to find the package? <7> prec: did you apt-get update after you modified your sources? ;) <5> prec: incompetence <6> my sources was like that already, but yes i did update <6> KristianL: Sorry, but I'm new to Debian. <5> yes <5> and I would help you but not when you insist on using unstable <6> how else can I get the eclipse package when it is listed as unstable? I need it. <6> it is apparently unstable or nothing so i need unstable <5> http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ <6> i can do that but I thought it would be better to keep it as a package in apt <5> it would, but you don't want to use unstable if you're new to debian <6> so should I remove the lines with the unstable branch in my sources.list? <5> well, if you allready did apt-get upgrade you're allready using unstable... <6> that could be <5> well, you have two choices <6> i havent used apt-get upgrade but i have upgraded packages using Adept <5> basicly, you can just go with it, and do apt-cache search eclipse to find the correct package for eclipse, or you may want to reinstall to etch, I guess you might as well use unstable until you run into problems <6> i am using etch <5> not if you have unstable in your sources <6> ok, so some of my packages are unstable and some etch... i took the unstable listing out <5> you're better off with full unstable than half unstable half etch <6> im just playing around anyway, this isn't a production machine or anything <5> yeah, but if you allready upgraded some packages to unstable, you will have less problem with 100% unstable, less conflicts and such <5> and you'd get eclipse if it's in unstable ... <6> that is odd then because it was telling me that eclipse couldnt be found <6> if i have a listing for etch and unstable both in my sources.list, will one take precedense? <5> the one with the newer versions, generally <5> meaning unstable <6> because i had this one: deb http://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/debian/ etch main contrib <6> followed by this: deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable contrib non-free <5> add main <5> so it sais <6> i have this too: deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main <5> deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable contrib non-free main <6> im confused about the sources.list stuff, obviously... <8> can i dual boot win xp server 2003, win xp and debian all 3? <5> no <5> becaus dual means it's two <5> so that wouldn't be dual booting <8> triboot? <5> but on lilo/grub's account, there's no problem with booting three or more os'es <9> hi there, somebody here who installed php as cgi? <8> so first install either of the windoes os's, then install the other os's, then linux last? <5> that's one way of doing it <5> probably the most convenient too I guess <10> lol <10> how goes it KristianL <10> lo all <5> as windows isn't actually helpfull when it comes to setting up a boot loader to boot Linux <5> evening iLLf8d <10> why the L Kristian taken atm?\ <5> I guess so <5> still is
<10> whats new? <5> not much, working on a couple of deadlines with beryl, applying for a job, school's starting "tomorrow" and ticket sales for a lan party a few buddies and I arrange (100~ participants) starting tomorrow <10> nice <10> what are the current lan party favorites (at your buddies party that is) <5> the same as allways <5> but I usually go there because I find arranging it fun :) <10> I haven't been to one in a few years now <5> CS <5> CS CS CS <10> last time it was alot of cs <5> lamers <10> yeah <10> still huh <10> bummer <5> not much of a point having a contest in WoW <10> they were playing wtf was it called the one with the aliens in it <5> oh, that one :p <10> natural selection maye <10> I forget what its called <5> alien vs predator? <10> maybe **** its been so long I forget its name heh <11> any mail clients out there that can handle an 8gbyte mbox? <11> mutt and pine can't <12> people still use mbox? <12> ;) <13> evolution might <11> korozion: yeah :) <11> i can't even pop3 it over to something else, cause i can't find a pop3 daemon that handles that either :) <12> :x <11> ah well <11> i got the one mailbox that was 4 gig cleaned out, seems to be mutt can't handle any larger <11> it was using a gig of ram and saying there was 1.2 million emails, when i tried on the 8gb <13> i would say that it's time to use 'split' on that mbox <3> what about converting it to a maildir? <13> or 'unlink mbox' <13> who wants to sort through 1.2 MILLION messages <11> Thuryn: it's not actually 1.2 million though :) <11> Skiz: that takes a couple days, from experience :) <11> and by then there'd be another gig or two in it <11> :) <11> the 1.2 million was because mutt is braindead and kept reloading the file over and over <11> not the end of the world, rzip does REALLY well on mbox files <11> so that 8 gig file will compress down to about 600 meg or so <11> for archival <5> 1.2 million maildir-files isn't much better <5> (picking up the thread from Skiz ) <3> yeah I'd suppose split is the way to go <3> either that or a decent spam filter lol ;) <11> yeah, then i'd have to search through them for the 10 meg bounces from my blackberry :) <11> oh, it's not spam <3> o_O <11> it's email gone amok <11> though, it started with spam <3> catchall? <5> two postmasters bouncing eachother :p <11> my brotehr forwarded me about 10 spam emails so i could block them <11> that got forwarded to my blackberry <11> blackberry **** itself and said i can't send that, and bounced it back to the forwarder, adding a few lines in the process <3> ouch. <11> my forwarder said HEY, NEW EMAIL!, and forwarded it to to blackberry <11> a few thousand emails later, we're talking 10 meg emails back and forth <3> lol <11> each getting bigger and bigger <11> i got them out of my phone account, just debating if it's worth the effort to get them out of the catchall <5> hey, I was close <11> which NORMALLY goes up about 5 gig a month, it's been going up a gig a day or so <11> and i shut the forward off awhile ago <11> and blackberry is STILL processing a few days ago, i think <11> and every time i think it's ok to turn the forward back on, they puke up another old one <11> heh. <11> but rzip is REALLY good at fixing up that kinda thing, so storing 700 meg isn't a big deal.. bzip2 or gzip was like 2-3 gig on a 5-6 gig file, rzip is 700 meg <5> night people <13> i would write a perl script to read it and split each message into a separate file
