<0> hey Napta
<1> hiya
<0> think you could do me a small favor ?
<1> ?
<0> fix my server :(
<1> eh? whats wrong with it?
<0> I have no clue
<1> whats it doing or not doing
<0> it just crashes without a trace of a log or anything
<1> ooh
<1> have you looked at the memory ?
<0> dead console...
<0> in my experience, memory issues usually causes a bigger mess
<0> like more random crashes and stuff
<1> nah, memory issues can cause anything. depends on how brok3d the modules are
<1> indeed

<2> xnz: yes
<2> partially
<0> I guess I could test it
<1> but you would definately need to run memtest to rule it out :)
<0> yeah
<1> you should man.. then if not memtest
<1> perhaps a buggy module / kernel? raid controller ?
<1> or if raid, flaky disk causing locks?
<2> pebkac maybe?
<1> haha
<0> disks usually cause more of a mess too though
<1> you should never rule anything out :)
<0> it's almost certainly hardware though
<1> do you have any special modules loaded?
<2> yeah
<2> dont rule anything out!
<2> it might be god speaking to you
<1> hahaha
<0> nothing really special about it
<1> like a burning bush?
<1> but burning cpu
<2> yeah
<1> "Moses.. touch my cpu fan"
<2> mysterious are the ways of god
<0> considering how much porn is on that box, a burning disk could be a burning bush.
<1> I bet god communicates with Linus through message p***ing
<2> what kinda porn?
<2> softcore / hardcore?
<0> yes.
<1> Kristian: rofl
<2> gangbang? anal? lesbian?
<2> fisting?
<1> alright, porn is an absolute priority. you must fix it!
<0> dude, the porn is on raid5
<2> i got terabyte nas serving porn in lan..
<0> haha
<0> cute
<2> i need another one soon
<2> or i would need it already
<2> 2.2TB
<2> but some of that stuff is on dvds and tapes
<2> hmm
<0> wait, you're admining a porn-site ?
<3> Hi all, i download the knoppix 5 dvd, how can i run mutliple boot options? i want to run "failsafe knoppix desktop=icewm" but it doesnt boot up icewm, only the failsafe works?
<2> i think i need some application to handle all this
<2> to add meta-data to each file
<2> Kristian: no im not
<0> O_o
<2> im a collector
<2> serious collector
<0> hehe, fair enough
<0> winjunkie: because those aren't options
<0> winjunkie: failsafe and knoppix are both diffrent images
<0> the first word is an image, the rest are options.
<0> sigh, and I think I need to upgrade my alsa-stuff too
<1> rza, Kristian I like your style ;)
<2> i dont have a style
<1> your style is porn field
<0> in my next life I'm gonna be a frigging baker or something
<1> er, porn fiend

<2> when i smile i look like a sad emo kid and when i cry i look like normal emo kid
<0> or just a plain old wanker
<3> hmm ok, well the 2.5 kernel is frezeing when it gets to pcmcia + firewire + (may be other? i just did failsafe after it froze with firewire) detection. The same thing happen with debian, and this is a new laptop. 2.4 works perfect, is there any boot code i can run to execute 2.4 instead or can i do anything else?
<3> 2.6
<0> that depends on what images are on the cd
<3> knoppix is based on debian so
<0> yes, but knoppix isn't debian.
<0> usually we would do something like:
<3> ii downloaded the whole dvd
<0> punani: knoppix
<0> but punani is on vaication....
<1> whoops
<1> that wasn't good
<0> yes, and I have never used knoppix because I am a debian user and I don't like other distros. so I have no clue what is on the knoppix dvd
<3> i was doing failsafe & knoppix desk...
<3> should i be using some other + sign?
<0> for all I know, they could've called the 2.4 image "linux2.6doesntworksopleasebootlinux2.4kthnxbye"
<2> HEY
<3> i love debian, i am just using knoppix so i can choose a win manger
<3> but i cant switch to the other ones
<0> well, this is a debian chanel, we're experts on debian, not knoppix. and what they call their boot images is one of the things that is HIGHLY likely to be called something entierly diffrent than on debian
<0> meaning: debian people can't really help you with this one.
<2> you can choose window manager in debian also
<0> unless you expect us to start reading knoppix manuals for you :P
<3> ok. i'm going to try the other code that lets you disable them one by one, that means it wont use another image?
<2> did you install kdm like i told you to?
<3> yes
<2> /etc/init.d/kdm restart
<2> you should be able to select window manager there
<3> the whole system is fuc*ed it loads, into runtim 2 i think, i can execute startx, but not fluxbox, i read up on flux and i did the echo thing, but then startx would not work at all
<3> i'l do a quick format, but this time i'l use apt-get to install only the things i want, that should work? if you give me a order rza?
<0> woooot, I just traveled back in time!
<3> think i should do that?
<3> or i can be really lame and do a reinstall for each wm, but i dont see myself doing that
<3> ot i can get a older dist
<0> though needs to get used to figure that kind of stuff out by thou self
<0> or thou shall forever remain a novice to the art of linux troubleshooting
<0> hmm.... my shakespear-english is as rusty as my normal english
<3> true, i'm abit lazy
<4> abit?
<4> thtas like the understatement of the century
<3> i'm just looking for that command that will make everything work
<4> 'man'
<3> ok i'l figure it out
<0> yes > /dev/hda
<0> (ok, don't try that)
<3> that my hard disk no?
<0> that puts a bunch of y's all of your harddisk
<0> on top of anything that's there, including filesystem and partitiontable methinks
<3> what for?
<3> security? wipe?
<0> fun ?
<0> it's like rm -fr /
<0> except I've successfully booted a system after running rm -fr /
<3> what does rm remove?
<0> ....
<0> jesus
<0> read man files
<0> jes, rm removes
<3> why are you telling me thins?
<0> because you asked ?
<3> i did?
<3> ok
<0> I think I'm not the only one who should run memtest...
<2> basically this is how things go
<2> normal user can tell something
<2> when a voiced person says something its more valuable than the normal user
<2> and when op says something thats like almost the bottom line
<0> Napta: not any more
<1> :(
