<5> you can install cygwin on windows, start an xserver there, then start a linux application on another box and have the window on your win desktop <5> thats what you mean? <4> yeah <4> just like remote desktop <5> yes,you can <4> thats kool too <4> i just installed firefox and started xfce how do i load firefox up? <5> start an xterm and type it <5> if there is no menu <4> Also what i really need to know is can you make the default windows + dialogs smaller? <4> k <5> i dont know about xfce <4> i have xterm <4> ohh about the 2nd <4> yep its loading.. <4> all works, bbl <6> ls <6> err <6> wrong window :X <6> can anyone help me with my network problem that im still having? <7> Is anyone here? I'm having a major major majory crisis and need help. I've lost data to no fault of my own. Linux crashed and my ENTIRE document is gone... its just gone! Yes I saved because I had worked on it for a while now... I saved several different types as I have been working on it progresivly. The computer crashed and upon reboot the file was completely emtpy... even the backup tilda file was empty! <8> if i use "sendmail" what configuration file do i need to edit <9> the one called RTFM.conf <6> har. <6> ive read that one a few times <9> if you even don't know how to START to configure sendmail ... dude, you're in for a ride <6> heh <6> Radiance..know anything about why I cant connect a network adapter to the internet? <9> not sure, but if you get a bit more vague i might know bud <6> heh <6> well <9> punani: ask ? <10> If you have a question, just ask away on channel. If somebody knows, they'll answer :) For best results, be specific, informative, complete, concise and on-topic! Don't ask if you can ask a question first. Also don't ask if anyone uses/knows about foo. Please don't be demanding or insulting. Remember, we're all volunteers. Finally, please don't /msg people without permission or demand an answer from one particular person. Thanks! <6> so I have a debian box, with 1 network adapter, it grabs an ip address from the dhcp router, sees the domain and the right gateway, yet cant connect to the outside internet...I cant ssh into it becasue I cant finsih my install of debian becasue I cant resolve any of the apt sources <6> there are other machines on this same router using dhcp <6> I can ping the router and the router can ping that computer <6> ip is in range, netmask is in range. <6> netstat -rn looks ok <11> my laptop will not connect to the access point via wpa <11> it's weird though because my desktop will <11> it might be because my desktop is using madwifi drivers for ath <11> and the laptop is prism54 <8> sometimes RTFM isnt efficient, for instance, what if you want to create a simple program that says hello world, do you need to learn the whole language? no.. <9> peters3, yes you dumb **** <11> you just need to cout << <6> peter3: that was a horrible answer. <11> err printf <11> err print ""; <6> what about console.write? <6> heh <11> print "hello world \n"; <11> echo <9> if you want to drive to the supermarket only ... you think you don't need a drivers license ? :) <8> why learn the whole ****ing language if you only need to write "hello world" <6> peter3: I know if you google that question it will pop up instantly, ill even help you out, "debian sendmail config" <11> just copy and past <11> debug <11> err copy/paste <11> debug <11> that's how the pros do it <9> peters3, because ppl with your attitude are the cause of insecure code, that's why mate
<11> google hello world example code <11> copy/paste <6> radiance: was the description of my problem good enough? <9> adiosk8, those other machines .. they can get to the internet ? <8> Radiance: im just giving an example, i actually have learned very many programming languages in their entirety, i guess a bad example :P <11> i love playing around with sourceforge projects <11> and i don't even know how to program <8> <9> if you even don't know how to START to configure sendmail ... dude, you're in for a ride <11> but i am an expert at copy and pasting <8> thats basically ALL i needed to know^ <6> raidance: yes...im on one of them right now <11> perl > * <9> peters3, i advise postfix anyway <9> also the documentation on the postfix site is excellent btw <11> as opposed to sendmail <11> hell with postfix you don't have to read any docs <11> specially with debian <11> it just works <8> haha <9> adiosk8, when you do a traceroute to www.cnn.com it stops at the router ? <11> though exim is cool too <11> why not use exim? <9> exim is also very nice <6> radiance traceroute isnt installed yet...couldnt finish the install <9> if you're not going to process huge amounts of mail and such exim will do just fine <8> im thinking about exim <8> im looking at that now :P <9> adiosk8, sounds like a messed up install, can't complete it ? <6> its a net install <6> but it doesnt help when it cant connect to the internet <9> hmm <11> back in 00' i ran a whole isp with 200+ users with exim <9> yeah that's ok for exim <11> really easy to use <9> quite nice anyway <11> when i stepped in and took over everything was setup in exim and i didn't know exim for **** <11> straight forward config files <9> adiosk8, might be your resolv.conf <9> but wait, you can't even ping a raw ip ? <11> now i tried to set up qmail <11> that was a nightmare <11> man i spent months banging my head <6> radiance I think im just going to plug my internet connection directly into it, finsih the install and then connect it to the network <6> bbl <11> then spent 30minutes compiling and setting up postfix <11> and was off and running <9> yeah good idea, so it gets you at least up and running <11> ever since then i use postfix for everything <9> kinda sux to start troubleshooting with a half install :) <9> yeah postfix can be easily used for simple to enterprise level mail processing <11> i want to know why this laptop won't connect to the wpa ap <11> i wonder if i need to load encryption modules <11> or does the wpa_supplicant do that automatically? <9> i keep it on the hostap drivers in the vanilla kernel <9> you can connect to an AP with wep ? <11> ohh i haven't tried wep <9> or is it only wpa which is not working ? <11> but it will connect open <9> wep is alot easier <9> try first to see if wep is working <11> bah i crack wep with my eyes closed <9> if that is working then you only need to focus on the wpa config/tool <11> might as well be open <11> the wpa is already working though with other machines <9> if wep refuses also to work then you might need to look again at your drivers <11> debian boxes and the like <9> yeah not talking about the AP, just your laptop with that specific card and config <11> my laptop is setup almost the same as my desktop <11> hrmm well there is some modules loaded on the desktop <11> that aren't on the laptop <11> wlan 169436 6 wlan_tkip,wlan_ccmp,wlan_scan_sta,ath_pci,ath_ra <11> there's no wlan_tkip and stuff like that <11> i think that is all madwifi stuff <11> should i load madwifi on the laptop?
