<4> what tcl pack do i need to run eggdrop?
<4> on debian
<5> it should install 8.4 when you do apt-get install eggdrop
<4> i have done that. but where does the eggdrop get installed then?
<6> Varvail: search for it
<4> ./eggdrop: error while loading shared libraries: libtcl8.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
<4> i just keep getting this one
<4> and i have done apt-get install eggdrop
<5> you need to start it as user eggdrop
<4> and downloaded a zillion other tcl packages

<4> seriously?
<5> no you run it as root..
<4> no. i run it as a normal user
<7> Is knoppix actually just a debian live CD?
<6> xtor: no
<7> I just did an apt-get update in knoppix and its going crazy looking up debian packages on debian mirrors
<6> Varvail: first time starting the bot? isnt it ./eggdrop foo.config -m or something
<5> Varvail: check the eggdrop docs that got installed in /usr/share/doc/eggdrop
<8> Greetings from oslo, earthlings
<9> how would I skip the filesystem checking on ext2 partitions? when booting from a unexpected shutdown
<8> good question, hmm
<10> can somebody confirm that sarge-mysql listens to only non-tcp connections ?
<10> i cannot seem to ssh tunnel correctly with the default settings
<11> hi
<11> as lplz
<12> stupid connection
<13> having a seriouse headach with apt here ... figured someone here has a simple answer for me
<13> Reading Package Lists... Error!
<13> E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room
<13> E: Error occured while processing sp*** (NewFileVer1)
<13> E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.de.debian.org_pub_debian_dists_testing_main_binary-i386_Packages
<13> E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
<13> thats after all sources read ok
<13> also should my sources.list have stable/unstable/testing and experimental sources all in the same list or should I just use one ?
<14> apt-get -f install may help....
<14> R_A_G_E: and yes... pick one....
<13> awol thanks was confused about that casue in google one place said use different and another said use one
<14> mixing package trees is sometimes a quick way to hose a system.....
<13> good to know :)
<15> is debian 3.1r2 really 10 CDs?
<15> i mean 14
<12> unclejune, sure, you only need CD1 to install though, the rest are probably the 15000 avaliable packages
<12> the most common packages would be collected on the first cd and the next 2 cds, if you have an internet connection, just use the first cd and utilize the internet based server repositories
<14> unclejune: just get the netinstall iso... around 108M
<13> also on one machine Im fixing up its got a /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf ...... on all my box's I have a /etc/apt/apt.conf ..... anyone shed some light on that ?
<12> etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf isn't the same as /etc/apt/apt.conf , apt.conf is for configuration of apt and it's behaviour, the debconf file you're talking about is for using debconf on packages
<13> ok so making a /etc/apt/apt.conf and adding a APT::Cache-Limit "8388608"; line to it should fix my map room problem
<2> mornin
<16> morning
<16> how are you ?
<2> good
<2> you
<2> making brekkie, brb
<16> im fine... thx
<7> If I wanna ban 220.227.*.* in iptables then how do i do that? Do I put drop 220.227.0.0? Or 220.227.255.255? Or what?
<17> supply a netmask
<17> 220.227.0.0/255.255.0.0
<7> I tried 220.225.0.0/16 and that worked
<7> ...too
<17> yes.. it's the same as /255.255.0.0
<2> hehe
<2> ooh
<2> firefox crash
<17> oh noes!
<2> thats the ....4-5 th time in 3-4 years
<17> it's usually some pluguin
<18> can you get debian to mark badblocks ?
<2> fsck can do that iirc

<18> it's a brand new harddrive
<18> pissing me off

<22> Hi all, i'm trying to install ndiswrapper and all this other crap from source, I only have a wireless card in the linux box, Could i just put in a pci nic 10/100 just to get the net working so i can apt-get everything? will debian sarge autodetec the nic like windows does? i have a pci smc nic + a isa realtek nic, i just want to get the net working for a sec to get the wireless card working
<23> find the corresponding module for your card, then modprobe it once the card is int the computer
<22> thanks, the pc is next to me, i'm putting the card in now, btw i would'nt mind keeping the isa card in their as its not used, do you think it might autodetect it too? should i plug it in also?
<22> i'l just try it anyway after i test the pci one
<1> I got 2 external usb harddrives, one with music(/mnt/mp3/) streaming to slimserver and one for d/l(/mnt/film/) torrents on. I don't have them powered all the time, but they changes name(sda, sda1, sdb, sdb1) everytime i start them, and then auto mount mount them to the wrong folder. is it possible to fix this, so they get the same name every time the get powered on?
<22> should be the same as chaning drive letter in windows no?
<2> _snow: you need to power them on in the correct order etc
<2> ie, you should have both powered every time you boot the system, that way it -should- give you the same entries
<1> is that the only way to do it? i was hoping i didn't have to have the powered on all the time
<2> turn them off after you boot up then
<2> they exaclty the same drive?
<1> no

<2> laptop?
<3> All there is worth knowing about linux and laptops can be found at http://www.linux-laptop.net/ and http://tuxmobil.org or also ask me about 'acpi' and 'suspend'
<22> thanks
<22> what about acpi and suspend?
<22> debian supports acpi doesnt it?, **** suspend
<22> i just like the monitor turning off mostly
<24> its kernel feature
<22> + the pic
<22> i know what it is its power management
<22> punani, is there any reason you said" ask me about acpi and suspend?
<3> i haven't a clue, winjunkie
<22> k, i'l check out those site, later
<22> i cant wait till i can wardrive
<24> punani is a bot
<3> wish i knew, rza_
<22> rza that tought did cross my mind
<22> i dont have much money but if win runs ok on the laptop cpu, that usaually means debian will run sick on it
<22> brb
<22> rza_ do you know of any fbsd help chans?
<24> #freebsd ?
<24> try freenode
<22> thanks, i remembed freebsd being a good help chan, but in their topic it says no help, the only fbsd chan on efnet and they made it No help, just crap
<2> #freebsdhelp
<2> youd be advised to do your homework -first- though
<22> damn, spoke to soon
<0> morning
<2> mornin
<22> so thats why, theirs no help, fair enough
<2> there is lots of help, noone wants to help a lazy sob who requires handholding
<2> something i wager you will notice soon in this channel as well
<22> lol, point taken
<25> i need 2 commands to run at boot up...they are apps that will run as daemons...what is the easiest way to do that. '/usr/local/sbin/apf -s and /usr/local/sbin/bfd -s'
<25> oh wait a minute...they won't run as daemons
<25> they'll just run once
<24> /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh
