<7> what i do is i put a small amount on the cpu, then put my finger into a plastic bag, and then spread the paste onto the surface of the cpu using my gloved finger. i then apply some on the heatsink, then rub it in, and wipe it off with a towel. it leaves a stain, which is the thermal compound filling in microscopic gaps in the surface.. i then attach the heatsink to the cpu
