<4> What is a good FireWire Card brand ?
<5> sony
<4> Does this have 1 firewire port already ?? http://www.insight.com/site/product/detail/index.cfm?item_number=797312U it say 1x parallel - IEEE 1284 (EPP/ECP)
<4> says
<0> firewire port?
<6> and IEEE 1284 is a parallel port
<0> I have that on my motherboard
<6> aka a printer port
<7> lol
<6> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1284
<8> androsyn: so what's your point?
<6> he asked if it had a firewire port and then asked about IEEE 1284...
<6> that is my point..
<8> oh ok, i gotcha
<6> doesn't look like that box has firewire
<6> firewire is IEEE 1394 ;)
<4> yeah the IEEE threw me , but the number was diffrent
<6> yeah the number part is the important part ;)
<4> well thats why i asked
<0> Whoah
<0> That is one huge ****ig global ban
<9> thats how we like em
<9> keeps the riff-raff out
<10> YESSSSSSSS
<10> MORE great quotes from the op-manager about da evil IRC
<10> No wait... OC'ers read this if you're OC'ing conroe chips
<10> http://www.thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?p=32#post32
<10> basically... skip any FSB between 360-400
<10> The northbridge downgrades memory bandwith between that point
<10> hrmm this is GREAT info! It may infact not be your memory that is the problem, but the north bridge clock itself, which is the bottle neck
<10> bah forget it... nobody OC's here, nor knows much about it.
<10> I waste my time trying to help folks OC!
<10> STOCK SPEED LAMERS!
<11> hmm anyone know of a windows profile repair tool or something? User A clicks on any program to open it, ie excel. It sits there nonresponsive as if nothing ever happened. No mem or cpu spikes or PF usage. After 30 secs, it opens as if nothing happened. This is not confined to office. User B logs into same machine and everything runs 100% lightning fast.
<10> hrmm
<10> Corrupt profile
<10> possibly...

<10> tried copying the user B's profile over?
<10> I've never heard of a profile fixer
<11> yea me either
<10> That sounds like a very rare problem
<9> sure its not infeted?
<11> problem is user A has a LOT of stuff in his profile.. it would **** to have to start him over as if he were a newb
<9> infected
<11> yea im sure
<10> yeah
<10> ran a scan?
<9> you can copy his my docs, desktop, favorites to a new profile - shouldnt be too horrible
<11> NAV corporate scans daily and has real time.. and webroot spysweeper enterprise runs.. plus everyhting is double natted
<10> F-secure's works nice and gives multiple options to clean, rename etc/
<10> NAV ****s ***
<10> We have it here
<10> only found 2/6 variants that F-secure/Housecall found all 6
<11> its more an issue of messing up outlook stuff if i ****can his profile
<11> hes got a lot of clientside rules
<11> and hes a manager
<11> so you know how that goes
<11> destructive stuff is last resort, because then he ***umes the sky is falling
<11> and will whine about having to spend 3 minutes to set up his rules again
<12> SPAMMER > anyone else seen them bitches with tattoos and bodypaints on www.kaygem.co.uk (first page) .. mind soundtrack too ! < But i not really spamming !!! ITS JUST TOO COOL , to keep to myselfg... spome ****ing hot chicks !
<12> hot a s****
<10> MIght as well have a guard sleeping at the gate using NAV
<10> lmfao
<10> These new trojans and **** are SO nasty... they don't even really damage **** like the old viruses, they just completely mess up reg settings and ***ociations and install backdoors and open ports... you basically HAVE to reimage or fresh install.
<10> Not worth attempting to fix
<11> well that is an asusmption that a virus is the cause. Lets ***ume that it isn't. Does that open any more possibilities?
<9> theres nothing that cant be fixed
<11> i ran chkdsk of course to make sure the profile wasnt sitting there corrupted by filesystem damage
<11> or anything related
<10> Not worth trying to repair some trojan ****, that could have a keylogger, backdoor, reg hack, port open etc... you literally have no real solid clue if your system is safe. It's an ***umption based on what your A/V scanner tells you... it could be wrong. I 'm NOT taking any chances of having my CC/info stolen b/c of said repair.
<10> I keep fresh images and weekly image updates handy just in case.
<11> thats not really a major option in a corporate setting. For one or two peopole, yes.
<10> despy_= Yeah I know
<10> I'm saying that NAV is really junk and something else should be used as standard policy.
<11> they are lucky we grab dailies of their my docs
<11> I wouldnt go so far as to say junk.. but regardless, thats not the point
<10> I don't even bother using other peoples machines to do anything. Not verified as secure or hardened.
<11> if i scan it with your tool of choice and it shows no virii, what do you think would be your next step
<10> blah I'm ranting, sry
<11> lol np
<11> im not all pro-norton myself, but thats what im given to work with
<11> if the owners havent heard of trendmicro they wont buy it
<10> Well if the prob still exists... I'd say it's a corrupt profile, which I've never heard anyone having, so google would be the only solution imo
<10> :-/
<10> Or hrmmm
<11> heh yea, ive spent some time with google already.. its a hard thing to search for.. amny many results that are nothing to do with the problem
<10> There's no sys-restore backup?
<11> There is sys restore, yes. This person had a similar seemingly profile related issue which we wiped out the machine and started over with a month ago.. it ran better for a short time and is worse as ever now
<11> so a sys restore to a halfway acceptable condition seems to bandaid the bigger problem
<10> Oh oh it's corrupted again huh...
<10> hrmm
<10> But nobody elses profile gets corrupted on the SAME machine?
<11> right
<10> Software clash I think
<11> well its his workstation.. but i can log in with my DA accoutn and everything runs like a champ
<10> Something he has installed could be doing it
<11> hrm
<10> HEY!
<10> Have you tried copying the profile over and renaming it... see if it still is messed up?
<11> hmm no
<10> if the cloned profile is fubar'd sounds like software clash... you could copy the profile, uninstall some stuff and see if you can pin-point it, and if worse comes to worst, you've still got his backup
<11> yea true./. i wonder what else will get hosed other than outlook rules if i just tell him its ****ed and kill his profile
<11> i dont want to spend all day on this .. ive got 50 servers to maintain too lol
<13> i think some of you may have noticed that after installing vista on your notebook/laptop: the fan is always running, and it seems to run hotter.. even idle.. i wonder why that is ... that's prolly not good for the battery
<14> yes
<14> its because windows requires significantly more cpu in vista
<15> Hello
<16> MOBILE sempron will work in an atx 754 mobo correct?
<13> even when idle..
<13> i dunno.. i guess you're right
<17> can monitor repair replace the gl***?
