Comments:

<0> ncurses is utter pain. plus it doesn't work on windows.
<1> Teckla, starting with something like an ircii interface.
<1> OrngeTide, Well it works fine in putty, ne?
<0> i thought about actually doing a mud over ircii
<0> Gambit-, you'd need a process for every connection if you used ncurses.
<2> I.. might.. play discworld
<1> OrngeTide, I'm aware of that.
<0> terrible
<0> zid_, zmud?
<1> OrngeTide, actually, lemme rephrase
<2> mushclient, zmud is nasty
<0> i like trebuchet

<0> my gf refuses to use anything but zmud.
<1> OrngeTide, I'm actually thinking of this as a client-server game where the client is the ncurses program and it processes the text and talks ot the server.
<1> OrngeTide, Does ncurses have globals or something that prevent you from applying it to multiple terminals?
<0> Gambit-, you should do a simple client in wxWindows.
<1> I thought about that too, but then it wouldn't really be a mud anymore :)
<3> Write a Java applet client so I don't have to install anything. :P
<0> Gambit-, yea. it uses all sorts of globals. there are things that make you think you could run multiple ncurses sessions on a single processor. but it doesn't actually work
<0> Gambit-, you ever play Castle of the Winds for windows 3.x ?
<1> Yeah, actually :)
<1> that was sorta fun in a almost-nethack-but-helluva=lot=easier kinda way :)
<0> http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/16/Cotw-screen.gif
<3> Gambit-: You bastard, you are making me want to write my top-down 2-D MUD again.
<0> a multiplayer CotW would be nice.
<1> Teckla, join me :)
<1> OrngeTide, based on ticks?
<2> nethack is hard? no one told me..
<0> you could probably do a CotW mud in AJAX though
<1> zid_, have you beaten it?
<2> I ascended, and I have a valk very close atm
<2> just going up for some supplies before I wake rodney
<1> then you're much better at it then me :)
<3> Gambit-: I'm not a fan of text based MUDs anymore.
<1> then again, I always play a tourist, so maybe that's not too surprising :)
<0> i didn't understand anything zid said.
<1> Teckla, tbh I've never played them at all. The impetous for this project is from someone else.
<3> I'm too impatient to read location descriptions and such.
<1> OrngeTide, you've never ascended?
<2> OrngeTide: You have to get the book of the dead from the wizard of yendor, and he resurrects and comes after you every so often after
<0> Gambit-, oh. on KoL ?
<1> Teckla, Yeah, ditto, but I like client-server applications :)
<1> OrngeTide, No, on Nethack!
<0> oh. nethack. no i got bored after like the 3rd dungeon
<0> i mean i got bored of DYING
<2> OrngeTide: You never even went to mine town?
<1> zid_, Oh he keeps coming after you? I didn't know that! Can't kill him?
<2> he dies.. but not for long
<2> DoD, mines at ~3, minetown a few levels deeper, altar + light shop (possibly magic lamp), below that is mines end, with a luckstone
<0> zid_, hrm. nope
<0> i played moria a lot more than nethack.
<0> and angbnad
<2> oracle is a few levels deeper than the entrance to the mines, level below houses the entrance to sokoban (with an amulet of reflection or bag of holding at the end)
<3> Gambit-: Well done client-server is the best.
<0> someone should start maintaining and extending Egoboo. i love egoboo
<2> past that is medusa's isle, then a few levels, then the castle (with a wand of wishing)
<0> you should do peer-to-peer. client-server is for chumps
<2> then about.. 30 levels below that is the wizard of yendor :p
<2> with a load of stuff I skipped
<1> Teckla, Yeah, I'm sorta thinking of this with the ncurses as the client responsible for all the text processing and display, and a seperate server responsible for the world, which means you can put the client interfaces on seperate computers from the world server itself.
<2> then you make your way back up to dlvl1, go outside into the astral planes, battle your way through the 3 riders, then sacrifice the amulet :D
<1> zid_, like I said, you're /waaaaaay/ better at that game then I have ever been :)

<2> OrngeTide: Most early game deaths are just poor play, you learn
<2> Gambit-: telnet into nethack.alt.org and you can see my current game
<0> zid_, i only know how to play poorly.
<3> s/play/played/
<1> do you play those competitions?
<0> i beat kickle cubicle today. i love that game.
<0> we need a multiplayer kickle cubicle
<2> not generaly, I was ****y at the last one
<2> next one I might go for something
<2> like highest score
<2> black puddings FTW
<2> they're so FUN
<0> Gambit-, your mud should be based on hackmaster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackmaster :)
<2> OrngeTide: I dare you to play a game of nethack
<2> most noobs seem to play nethack like quake, that's the main problem
<0> man. why is the Hero System (5th edition) PDF $35 to download?
<2> Gambit-: Why not play a game of nethack, I like watching
<0> zid_, yea. i just try to run up to things until they die or i die. i view nethack as a duel between me and the gridbugs
<2> gridbugs can't move diagonaly, use it as an advantage :P
<2> they are also amazingly slow
<2> you can hit them, move away, wait a turn, hit them move away..
<1> zid_, what, right now?
<2> yea!
<1> no way, I'm about to go to sleep :)
<2> loser
<2> someone else play
<1> if i get stuck in a game of nethack I'll be awake for at least another 15 minutes :P
<2> I just joined the person with the second highest score's clan on KoL :P
<0> Gambit-, anyways. you should sniff around for PDFs for Hero System, 5th Edition. that is more of a set of tables and rules to design your own RPG ruleset with.
<1> zid_, I stopped playing KoL, got bored :)
<2> Gambit-: I've got 3 characters :P
<1> OrngeTide, well I'm not the one actually designing the rpg elements, just the client/server aspects :)
<2> one is doing hardcore runs, one is farming for money, the other is doing speed softcore runs
<1> how do you do hardcore runs in kol?
<2> as in, how do you get access?
<0> Gambit-, oh. okay.
<0> i like KoL. I have a bunch of KoL gl***es and t-shirts :P
<1> no, as in wtf constitutes a hardcore run in kol?
<0> i need to work on my character though.
<0> i ***ume he means after you acend and pick hardcore.
<0> ascend even
<2> Gambit-: You can elect to play without any of your items or skills from your normal runs
<1> OrageTide, Yeah, angelx11 never sent me anything back when I sent her stuff in trade, so I got disheartened and eventually bored.
<1> oh yeah, right.
<0> Gambit-, i kept bugging her to do that. and she kept forgetting. she already ascended and quit playing
<0> Gambit-, i'll tell her to send me all her **** and then i'll send you ****:)
<1> i gave my account to the clan leader
<1> so don't bother :)
<1> i realized i was logging in each day but not actually doing anything interesting with it, so I stopped :)
<2> good waste of an hour
<1> god it's hard not to be intimidated looking at these discworld mud maps ^_^;;
<2> Gambit-: I bet :p
<0> i like AvP mud better.
<0> http://www.avpmud.com/
<1> Right, that's it, off to brush teeth in preperation for bed.
<2> brush your bed
<0> there are about 5 girls that actually play that AvP mud regularly.
<0> AND PREPARE FOR TEETH
<2> and I know at least 20 girls who play discworld :p
