<2> my friend <2> he's cool <3> k <3> sup dude <2> hes a linux whore <2> trying to get some more linux/bsd heads in here <2> hey <4> is this a discussion or help channel? <2> all of the above <4> k-rad <2> trying to get a lot more bsd users in here <2> if you have friends, feel free to bring them :) <2> i'm a web developer <4> i tried to start my own #fbsdhelp after i got permbanned from #freebsdhelp because they are jerks <2> and linux whore <4> im a network engineer and bsd guru <2> nice <2> is that your site ? <2> ever need any work done, let me know :P <2> www.dolox.com/portfolio <4> which site? <2> your vhost <4> www.dryanta.com is a 403 <4> www.no-wire.net is the host <2> 403 ? <2> http://dryanta.com/ <4> forbidden <2> works for me <4> almonds? <2> yup <4> heh no-wire.net is the one to look at <4> thats me <2> what's that ? <4> thats the company i run <4> no wire communications <2> ever think about hiring a web designer ? <2> layout is kind of oldish :l <4> got two already :) <4> you dont like the flash? <4> i think its slick <2> I like flash <2> check out my portfolio :P <2> www.dolox.com/portfolio <4> i like your portfolio <2> I'm big on flash :) <4> but that oldish site has x-cart and is completely customzed w/ a cms and a lmp backend <4> im big on php and ruby :D <4> i can donate hosting for the site <2> for what this channel ? <2> the hosting is going to be free, I'm going to provide that <4> Donations for bsd website coming... <2> we just need to pay for the domain <2> domains gonna be expensive <2> gonna buy like www.bsd.st <2> or something <4> oh <2> Before I was just talking about your website though <2> if you needed someone to redesign it <2> let me know :) <4> how much do you charge? <2> the donation page will be up soon, we're waiting on Klux
<2> it depends on what you want <4> well that site once i get the crm and the site survey database done is truely my perfect website imho, i just want to know how much you charge in general, for like redesign and templates and shop rates <4> because no-wire.net is great but i need another developer to sub to because i have a lot of work <2> it depends <2> it all depends on what you want <2> if you want a basic professional layout <2> logo & graphic design <2> 100$ <2> a template <2> 60-70$ <2> I try to keep it reasonable <4> how old are you <4> and how long have you been doing this <2> 20 <2> 6-7 years <2> probably longer <2> been web designing a long time my friend :) <3> openbsd <3> oops <4> hmm <4> im getting old <4> so how much do you guys know about usb dev entries and ppp scripts? <4> wb <2> thanks <4> so <4> what is the overall goal <4> a user community/forum? <2> probably <4> make sure if there is a forum i am the mod of the embedded section :) <2> this isn't going to happen for awhile <2> we need to get the donation money up first <4> just put it on a subdomain or bsdhelpcommunity.net or something for $7.95 for now, then collect donations for a new tld <4> so you can work out the design/cms/forum <5> does pf have something like the 'random' patch for iptables? <4> what do you mean? <4> what does the random patch for iptables do <5> Randomizing <5> The random match module matches packets based on nothing more than a random choice. You can tune the logic by setting the probability that a packet is matched anywhere between 0% and 100% of the time. Example applications include simulating a faulty connection or server or distributing load across multiple mirrored Web servers. The example below distributes Web traffic among three servers. The first rule sends 33% of the connections to the server at 192.168.0.1 <5> 00. The next 33% is sent to 192.168.0.101 and the last third catches the remainder and p***es them to 192.168.0.102: <5> though that's not exactly what I remember of it back when I was wanting to play with it some time ago.. hrm.. <4> i dont know about doing it randomly, im sure i could... but that stuff is altq <4> if you are working with percentages its not particturally random <5> uhm, not traffic shaping <5> anyway, just curious <4> i wasnt aware that was how load balancing worked i always thought the newer strategy was a high-availability cluster on a multihomed network instead of different hosts <5> I'm familiar with iptables and not pf. May be setting up another firewall device soon, and considering using something like pfSense <4> pfsense is kinda cool but why not just use openbsd and pf? <4> how much bw are you throwing at this firewall? <5> well, that was really just an example of a use.. <5> probably more often used for the other <5> not a lot. I'm not really a BSD guy <5> and honestly, was looking for a simple-to-admin something, like smoothwall, m0n0wall, etc <4> oh its all good man im not trying to be condescending <4> heh <5> yeah, me either <4> im just trying to figure out if its mission critical or not <4> for like your house or test bench or office <5> just curious. And like I said, in looking at this 'random' patch again, I'm not sure it's what I thought it was... or rather could do what I wanted <5> relatively 'mission critical'.. it will be in production and all.. but <4> well how much bw is thrown at it peak? <5> mission-critical is all sorta relative :) <4> how many total connections <4> how much do you make off it or lose off it when its not working etc <5> this will be a low bandwidth firewall.. it's a tertiary network <5> out of vengeance, we'll prolly but it on 10Mbps hubs :) <4> make a single board computer and put mikrotik router os on it if you want ease of administration <4> perfect <4> or put a dom into an old 200mhz+ box with a few spare nics and make a router/firewall out of it <5> yeah, hadn't considered mikrotik just because I was looking at free (it isn't.. or didn't used to be, did it?) <5> anyway.. another question <5> more along the lines of what I had wanted to do with the 'random' patch, and maybe you can tell me if it could be done [easily] with pf.. <4> its not free its cheap though <5> I want to match particular packets (say, on IP) and then drop a particular (though maybe 'random') percentage of THOSE packets <4> like a service curve?
