<0> I hate it <1> :D <2> image was rendering ~4 hours, it was allmost done but 3dsmax crashed... <3> http://www.24xstudios.com/beta/collision.jpg <4> Im having a problem with UVW mapping; I've boxmodelled a shape, use NURMS to smoothen it, then applied the Unwrap UVW modifier. I've gone to "Edit" and selected "Normal Mapping" (its a rather simple shape). It splits the model into two large UVWs. After I press F9 to render though, it somehow resets the UVWs, and I get all kinds of weird distortion. Ive quit max, started it up again, but to no avail. To summarize; pressing F9 resets my UVW maps. Anyone k <3> why wont reactor recognise the collision ? <3> any hint ? <3> been changing parameters for like 2 days now :/ <5> asume you set the simluation geometry, added them in a collection and have tweaked the substeps and the m*** friction etc.. <5> basicly adding two items to a rigid body collection would be enough to get them to colide <5> VerticalE, why covert to nurms and not just set up the smoothing groups? <6> VerticalE: make sure you do either of these: ensure the 'show final results' button is pushed if object is selected or that you deselect the object, or best 2: collapse the unwrap <4> I've never used the smoothing groups, so Im not sure how it works. I noticed that when I added the Unwrap UVW modifier, the model got updated with the right amount of iterations, hence it got all the polygons that the NURMS converting would yield. <4> Ive also made sure that no polygons were selected after applying the modifier <4> wow, collapsing the Unwrap did wonders! <6> ;)
<4> are there any easy way to explain why this makes a difference? <6> because the state of unwrap being actually applied or broken is affected by things you've done afterwards <6> if you do anything that adds/deletes faces for instance <4> that was my only modifier, really. Box -> Editable Poly (check the NUMRS box to convert) -> Apply Unwrap UVW <4> the Unwrap UVW was the highest in the modifier stacks as well, so I thought that there wasnt anything that could affect it <4> whatever the case, it works now, so thanks alot mcarp, I really appreciate it. Its been bugging me for a few hours now ;) <6> theres a bunch of things that can happen that you may not think about <6> yw <7> brb <8> hi <6> whats new? <8> wake up and everyone in the house was gone lunching or something... <8> lol <6> i love it when everyone leaves <8> meh <7> shh <7> just close your eyes and bare it <9> http://pharmacytrading.com/pic1.jpg <-- anyone know why mental ray rendering does that with opacity maps ? <9> appreciate any help <10> That your girlfriend? :P <11> chon any explaination would maybe help people analyse your problem <3> is there a free solution to use lights as particles (don't have thinking particles & enlight :/ ) <12> oh this is GREAT <12> thats the 4859th time i buy something related to pc's and it doesn't work <12> (memory) <12> apparently the model i bought 'sometimes' has 'compatibility' issues with Asus <12> as if asus is a small company <12> @#$ <12> you might want to have your product work with one of the biggest mobo manufacturers, you know <12> ahem <12> hi <12> btw <3> i guess there was noone around to talk to :) <12> s|p : can't you ***ign a light illuminating material to the particles? <3> is this built in? <12> hmm <3> or do you mean baking textures light p*** <12> no <12> like a material that just.. emits light :P <12> turn up self illumination <3> that would have been the worst workaround :) <12> and eh <12> i knew a way <12> but can't remember <12> put output map in diffuse slot <12> or something <3> hmm <7> 00:17:F2:99:E8:AA, ILife <7> 00:02:C7:9C:F5:43, PSP <7> 00:06:25:A9:6E:71, Work Laptop <7> 00:0D:60:36:BD:6B, USB WiFi :A <7> 00:06:25:23:51:06, Usb Wireless 1 <7> 00:12:5A:40:D0:37, XBoX 360 <7> 00:11:24:29:CA:D2, KnOvA-4 <7> 00:13:02:1B:7E:19, DGKH7R91 <7> 00:13:D4:1F:4B:1D, p4820d <7> nice <12> wuh? <7> sorry about that
<12> now i know <12> its YOUR fault my new memory doesn't work <10> Hello. <7> I know <1> does max support any method for using vector art as a texture? <7> heh <12> no <1> dismal ;< <12> maybe a plugin <12> but no idea <7> make one <7> :) <1> heh <13> it does <13> via combustion link <1> ohh interesting <13> you can use combustions paint workspaces (Wich are vectorbased) as resolution independent textures <13> no idea if you can get existing vector art into combustion...worth a try i guess <13> you even get a live-edit link with combustion. so you can paint and see it updating directly in the viewport <1> i think its rasterizing as it comes across. oh well i'll try make the vector art a model :) <11> :( <11> I hate deadlines <11> makes me eat chinese food every evening <14> hi im extreemly new to 3dsmax, what would be the proper name of a tutorial to search for to make i guess u could say a soft rounded 'play doe' looking text <14> if you will <8> hum <8> check max help for text shapes and bevel modifeirs <15> just get a book.. there will be something in there <15> a big fat one :) <14> book? i have google hehe <15> ha <15> true <14> but <14> it would be related to a bevel modification? <7> convert to edit poly, and cut it up and move the verts around, I'd think is your best bet <14> wow i have much to learn <14> heh <11> yeah totally <7> a bit <11> expect years <11> not months ;) <14> yea <14> well i got time <11> one day all my hair will fall out at once cause of stres <11> s <11> and it probably will be happen when im on irc <11> *sigh* <14> i downloaded already made 'metal.max' with a text with effects on it, how do i modify it? <14> as in change the font, and color <14> when i click text it just wants to add another text object to the scene <16> read the manual.. your questions is TOO basic <7> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130066 <12> skunky` : f1 <14> can someone just tell me the option where i would go to round the edges of the text <14> so i can play around with it <17> skunky` select the existing text, then go to modifier tab and choose textthingy, there you can change the font and size <12> skunky` : there's not an option <14> oh <12> you can put an edit poly modifier on it <12> then select top edges and chamfer <14> edit poly hmm ok <12> but then it would be lowpoly <12> so then you'd have to apply a smooth modifier on it <14> i just wanna round the edges u know what i mean <14> oh <12> but since the top faces of the text are just 1 poly, it ****s up, so you need to redo the topology <12> so then you have to learn modeling <12> but for you to learn modeling you need to learn the interface first <12> .. <12> so there <12> :P <14> ah <14> damn <14> kinda confusing to achieve one simple idea lol
