<0> awww
<1> Still?
<2> nelluk in what regard?
<3> hmm, hold on.. found a pretty good tutorial on the web, lets see if that answers my question
<3> hmm
<3> getting closer
<3> i go to "REplace color...".. use the eyedropper to select the main block of color in my image. double click on the bottom right swath, enter in the desired RGB values. the color changes, but not TO those values, seems to be modifying them to some third value
<3> probably just need to play around some more, dont bother replying unless you know exactly what im talkign about :P
<3> urgh, no luck
<3> if there was an adjustment layer, it'd show up in the Layers list, wouldn't it?
<4> yes
<3> i hate being so helpless with software, seems like this should be easy
<1> It usually IS easy.
<1> The hard part is knowing exactly how to accomplish it easily. ;)
<1> haha

<1> Therein lies the rub.
<3> yah :P
<4> post the file
<3> http://www.kazookayaks.com/aebikebanner.gif
<3> im working with a PSD version, but thats the image
<3> just trying to change the main blue background color to a specific RGB value
<5> angsty
<5> http://www.ansimation.net/tmp/spherelinx.gif or http://www.ansimation.net/tmp/spherelinx2.gif
<3> i encounter the same problem when i work on the gif
<5> what problem?
<3> working with the Replace Color command, or the color replacement tool
<6> travis... are you using someone elses template? :S
<3> i sample the desired color, go to the CR tool, start painting, and rather than replacing the color, it modifies it to some third color.
<5> replace that color is a pretty straight forward tool
<3> it seems like it should be
<3> im probably missing something fundamental, i am a photoshop newbie after all
<5> stu, no, all 100% original
<5> check the image mode to be sure it's in rgb and not greyscale
<3> it is in RGB.
<5> or index color rather
<7> hi all
<5> hi
<7> hey rubik bro ..I said hi
<5> so use the eyedropper, select the color that you want replaced in the image with it, then go down to the bottom and adjust the hue/saturation sliders
<5> and make sure 'image' is selected not selection
<3> I don't know anything about hue/saturation, im going after a specific RGB value
<7> is the Replace Color command is being discuused?
<3> yes jewkyl
<4> nice work ansi
<1> jEkYlLnHyDe, save Nelluk's sanity!
<3> yes please sir!
<5> nice work?
<4> no?
<4> ****ty work?
<5> no I mean nice work with what
<5> hehe
<7> what happened..what happens to be Nelluk's problem?
<4> spherelinx
<5> ah okay
<4> liked the forced perspective on the servers
<7> and hi Sherwood
<1> heh
<5> he didn't like #2 so I did #1. he wanted something like axn-india so I think I did quite well
<1> Hi. :)
<4> so who makes these exotic servers everyone has on their hosting site?
<3> jekyl: I am simply trying to replace one RGB value in an image to another RGB value
<3> but everything i try seems to put it at a third, different value
<5> yeah I don't know, istock? :)
<4> and I also wonder if clients are in fact impressed with ***y server cases
<5> I got them from some templates I already have
<5> just for your information, that is probably discussing the tool within the Photoshop elements application. not quite sure how similar it is but meh
<7> lemme take a look
<1> I don't know what the proper options settings across the top of the window should be, but it sounds like something that might be a simple setting doing it.
<3> jeyl: http://www.kazookayaks.com/aebikebanner.gif is the image
<1> Like, you can set it to Color, or Hue, which give you different effects in the same color.
<4> why not use Select>Color Range and then fill it with the color you want
<7> ok Nelluk..I see the image...what do u want to do with it?
<3> im trying to make the main blue background image, and changing it to an RGB value of 32/47/239
<3> Angst: i'll try that approach, although it seems like this approach should work too, im just frustrated that its not working
<7> ok..is that all?

<3> yep.
<7> wait a sec
<3> thank you
<1> Oh hey.
<1> It's in Indexed color mode.
<1> Not RGB.
<3> i changed my color space to RGB
<1> That would keep you from being able to do things with it.
<1> Oh ok.
<1> heh
<3> angst: that looks like the best way to do it though, thanks
<4> np
<1> You changed it by going to Image>Mode>RGB?
<3> yah
<1> Okie, you're good then.
<7> Nelluk...its 16/17/119 at the moment..right?
<3> correct
<3> is there a way to get PS to expand the toolbar, so i dont have to look behind everything?
<7> u want to change it to a bright blue?
<3> yep
<7> done...
<3> ok.. how did you do it
<7> Elements 4 or 5?
<7> I have CS2
<7> u can do that with levels too
<3> CS3 beta actually
<7> perfect
<3> my question is basically how to do it using the color replace tool, or the replace color command
<7> why do u want to do that when there r much precise tools to achieve the result
<3> Well, mostly because ive been playing with those two tools all afternoon, and it seems like it should be easy, and im frustrated that i couldnt get it
<3> but im also interested to know the most efficient/precise way to do it
<7> when u want to get exact numbers u need the right tools
<1> Yeah, I do that too.
<7> ok..listen
<7> do this..change the color mode to rgb...the file was index
<1> When there's supposed to be a way to do something and it doesn't work, I keep wanting to figure out why.
<1> jEkYlLnHyDe, he has.
<3> yep, go on
<7> now choose the magic wand tool...don't do anything just choose ti for now
<3> ok
<7> in the options bar...change the tolerance to 1...cuz u want to change just one color...and unchect contiguous
<1> I did it by using the magic wand to select the color, then in the color palette setting the blue to the RGB values desired, make a swatch out of the correct color, then fill with the color and paint in the little cogs.
<1> Yeah, tolerance of 1.
<1> jEkYlLnHyDe's going the same route I did, I think.
<7> now click on the blue color
<3> got it
<7> u see the marching ants?
<3> heh, yes.
<7> now the techy fun begins...
<7> add a curves adjustment layer...I presume u know how to do that
<1> haha
<1> Too complicated.
<7> :)
<3> heh
<1> Just fill. :)
<3> i know the command sequence to create a curves adjustment layer, ive never used them before though.
<3> this is like my second day in photoshop
<7> do it...it will go a long way
<3> go ahead jekyl
<7> do u see the curves dialog box?
<3> yep
<7> do u see part of the image too with the blue in it?
<3> i see a 4x4 grid with a diagonal line.
<7> yes but behind it do u see the image...the blue that u want to change?
<3> yes.
<3> eyedrop it?
<7> hold Shift and Ctrl keys together...and then eyedrop it
<7> press and hold
<3> i get a contextual menu..
<3> maybe you mean shift+option on a mac?
<7> yep
<3> ok, it put a ltitle target marker down where i clicked
<7> noooo
<3> noooooo!!!
