<0> hiya people <0> is there someplace where i can get differnt font settings for my gnome deskgtop <0> i ahve been fiddling with it for the whole day but i still didnt get what i like <1> hey.. gurus.. which one is better... sendmail ? postfix ? exim ? <1> and yes qmail ? <2> the best is the one you know <2> :D <3> "Best" is very subjective. :P <1> and the one best to know :) <2> qmail has a lot of features, but sometimes you dont need all <4> anyone know if I can create like an alias which I can type into bash and it will execute a shell command <2> yea, put it on our .bashrc <2> alias name='command' <4> excellent and I can find the .bashrc file in my home? <2> yea, if you dont have it, just create <4> cheers Cyclone
<5> qmail is a pain in my *** and it has an awful license. <6> awesome license? <5> Ran it for years. When it works, it works great. But once you start expecting it to do things like antivirus, spam filtering, and the like.... it's so poorly documented and so poorly understood that it's not worth bothering wtih. <5> And if it breaks... oh, ****. You're REALLY in trouble. <5> Also... qmail-pop3d breaks with more than 1024 unread messages in a mailbox. <6> mmm <6> interesting <7> qmail has no license per se <5> Ran into that a few years back. Client had like 10K messages he wanted to download. the qmail-pop3d kept failing to authenticate until I trimmed it down to about 1K messages. Download. Inject another 1K messages. Download. Repeat as necessary. <7> there's a copy of the license on the author's site, but that doesn't count formally and the author knows it <7> it's basically his way of saying "it's free to use but you can't include it with anything" <6> procmail? <6> postfix? <5> and you can't distribute binaries. <5> you can distribute unpatched source. That's it. <7> postfix is essentially gpl.. perhaps slightly freer, but not free enough to call bsd <7> hehe <7> jblack isn't here, so I can go on with that. <5> heh! <7> everyone likes wietse.. except perhaps djb <5> wietse? <5> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Public_License <--- postfix's license. <7> wietse venema, postfix's author <5> http://www.opensource.org/licenses/ibmpl.php <-- full text of the license. <5> lacroix :A h.. yeah... I don't get into stuff well enough to know authors' names. But I, too, use postfix. <7> it would make a lot of people very happy if wietse would release under bsd license. <5> I have HowtoForge's postfix installation ported to FreeBSD running on 2 of my server. I REALLY like that configuration. <5> oh.... except I added maildrop in there so I could do procmail-type filtering on the server-side. <5> http://howtoforge.org/virtual_postfix_mysql_quota_courier VERY good guide on setting postfix up for virtual hosting. <5> It's debian-specific... but if you understand how your distro does things, it's not real difficult to work through the thing for your distro. <6> how about you get rid of pop <6> and do imap+maildir <5> actually, I am using maildir... I have pop configured (but not running) in case it's needed at some time in the future. <5> Part of the reason for doing that, too, was cause their authentication uses courier's authlib to get this all done up. <8> bloody kleenex <9> Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". :( <10> ? <4> guys how can I view active ssh connections? <11> man netstat <4> cheers <12> hello <3> Hi. <12> im a newbie tryin to get into linux <12> but i have an issue, or at least a question <3> What's that? <12> trying to install it on a seperate partition on my laptop without accidentally erasing windows <12> but i have a raid setup <13> ... raid on your laptop? <12> yes <12> alienware (piece of crap) <12> which im also trying to figure out <12> to my knowledge...raid 0 makes 2 drives appear as one... for instance, 60 gig + 60gig = 60gig but twice as fast <12> however <12> windows sees 1 110gig drive <12> ubuntu sees two 60gig drives <12> so im wondering how to set up my partition <12> im at the screen where it asks what drive to select <12> either of the 60gig drives, or "manually edit partition table" <14> whats the table look like now? <6> you need to let ubuntu know it's a raid <12> how
<12> if i click manually edit partition table, it says... <12> unallocated 55.89GiB <12> it views each drive seperately <14> what raid mode <12> 0 <12> or at least thats what alienware tells me <12> i wouldn't be suprised if they le <12> lie <14> see where there partitons are setup <12> ? <14> boot ubuntu <14> do a fdisk <12> ok so restart? <14> is it a live disk <12> im on my desktop <12> my laptop is at the partition screen <14> of the ubuntu setup <12> yes <14> ? <14> do you have a live disk <12> what do you mean <12> sorry if i don't understand the lingo yet <12> ? <12> anyone? <15> mhm what? <12> whats a live disk <15> go to goodbye-windows.com ;) <15> marc2: you use mainboard raid? <12> how would i check <15> well the raid which is configured with you bios i mean <15> that really sux :P <12> don't know <12> my bios views it as one drive <15> yes that sux <12> but ubuntu doesn't <15> yeah <15> because it sux ;) <12> what does? <16> what sux ? <16> :) <15> these cheapo pseudo raids <12> well anyway, what should i do <15> well linux has drivers for some of them .. but i would advice not to use it <12> not to use linux/ <12> ? <15> using raid0 or raid1? <15> (speed or relyability) <15> in windows i mean <12> well let me ask you <12> if you have 2 hard drives, 60 gigs each <12> if you are in raid 0, how big is the HD seen by the computer <15> raid0=120gb then <12> alright <12> ok, then alienware didn't lie, its raid 0 <15> double as fast .. double as dangerours ... <12> yes yes <15> if one HD breaks then all your data is gone <12> but its a philosophical danger <6> double dare! <15> nope <12> i mean if one drive breaks, and you have one drive, then same thing <12> ;) <12> just depends on how you look at it <15> i have no computer with only one drive (except my laptop which is backed up daily) <12> same deal though <12> i can back it up <15> not exactly .. with 2 drives in raid0 configuration the danger is double as high <15> anyways. ... type 'lspci' at the console <12> what console? <15> linux installer <15> i dont know the ubuntu installer <15> but it certainly has some expert/rescue mode which doesnt start graphical <15> or in a graphical installer you might have some way to switch to a console <12> thats what ubuntu has
