<8> Simpleguy: thank you very much for your ati link. following those instructions i was actually able to succesfully install the driver. now just still the dual screen option (ati control panel accepts my input but does not change the xorg.conf file, it seems...)

<11> nsx : I THINK I've figured out the problem I was having with postfix... it's a sasl2 issue. It's not reading the smtpd.conf file. And I have NO idea where that file actually goes. I've got some googling to do.... cause all the docs I've seen so far are for older versions and I KNOW that the version I got installed isn't reading the config... or it wouldn't be bitching.
