<Kramer> A search is in progress. <jblack> for that, find / -name "initrd.img*" <jblack> http://freshmeat.net/projects/mkinitramfs-justboot/ <NateDogg> Dale! :) <jblack> Hill! <NateDogg> its about freakin time ;P <jblack> I kind of miss the old days when each distro used the same mechanisms for booting. <jblack> Lilo was good enough for 386, and it was good enough for your pentium <dp2> yo Nate! :) <dp2> what's up?! <Kramer> Okay, searches done. <jblack> find it? <Kramer> Indeed, it seems like the more that distros diverge, the less compatibility we'll see. 20 years down the road, they'll be very different beasts. <NateDogg> Not much man, you? <Kramer> No initrd.img, no mkinitramfs. <Kramer> Do you know how to generate the initrd.img? <jblack> I pasted an url for freshmeat that has information. <jblack> I use mkinitramfs. :) <Kramer> Ah, thank you. <jblack> well, thats a lie. I stick with the stock kernel these days. <dp2> at work installing stuff :) <Kramer> I would have, if the Gentoo installer had compiled in proper soundcard support from the beginning. :) <NateDogg> this late? <jblack> Don't forget nethack <dp2> yep. this late :/ <jblack> If you don't want the job... :) <dp2> lol like the job; want different hours--like IL <dp2> besides, we NEED more ppl. <NateDogg> hire me ;) <jblack> I can be there in 48 hours <NateDogg> haha :) <Isaac-Lew> they're tyalking 6 for the NOC (2 each shift) <dp2> if it were up to me, I'd take both of you up on that <Isaac-Lew> & they've been talking about 9 sysadmins since I started working there <dp2> seriously, send us your resumes :) <jblack> Isaac has it <dp2> ok :) <NateDogg> dp2, i would sept its outdated <jblack> I'll warn ya though. I do poorly at interviews. <NateDogg> if you really want it, give me a little time <dp2> so, then update it :) <jblack> I did google a couple months ago and went borderline retarded. <NateDogg> yep, lemmie do that <Isaac-Lew> jblack: funny you should mention them <dp2> I used to be terrible with interviews, but I was blessed to be able to work with two patient recruiters. <dp2> I helped them with the tech stuff, and they helped me with the ppl-stuff ;) <Isaac-Lew> that's who sent me the request for a phone screen <NateDogg> im horrible at interviews ... :/ i temd to draw a blank, totally forget what i can do and my mouth goes dry <NateDogg> tend* <jblack> Really bad. I actually swapped free and delete. Which is a drastic boo-boo in C++ <dp2> so, then write a script, and memorize it <NateDogg> ./nate ;P <jblack> For a phone screen? <dp2> sure <jblack> I don't get you <dp2> I used to write note cards with questions and answers for everything I thought the interviewer might throw my way <dp2> also, try going on a few informational interviews <NateDogg> thats a good idea <dp2> it will give you some practice <dp2> a recruiter had me to go on 3-5 interviews just for practice, and that helped a lot <dp2> it taught me what to say and--more importantly--what to NOT say :) <dp2> for example, I know that I'm terrible with open-ended question. I hate them! nevertheless, I had to ask for help on how to deal with them during interviews. <jblack> I think I'd rather donate a minor toe to science that do another interview <dp2> actually, after a while, they can become kind of fun <dp2> just as various companies use interviews to screen candidates, I use them to screen those companies <dp2> btw, I'm very upfront about that too. <jblack> bleh. now I'm all stressed out <dp2> I once had a recruiter to ask me to justify why he should consider me for a particular opportunity, and I flipped it on him. I told him that it should be obvious that I'm more than qualified for the opportunity (since he saw my resume), and I asked him to justify why I shouldn't go on with one of his competitors. ;) <dp2> that approach doesn't always work with everyone, but I sensed that it might work with him--and it did. <NateDogg> haha im not that ballsy <NateDogg> im quite modist <NateDogg> modest? <Isaac-Lew> jblack: you're a shoo-in <jblack> modest. <Isaac-Lew> hell, the last person I referred wasn't a tenth as qualified as you, & she got hired <dp2> well, I'm modest, and I'm kind of ballsy like that. <Isaac-Lew> of course, she didn't tkae the job (thus screwing me out of the referral bonus) <NateDogg> brb need to throw in some wash <Isaac-Lew> and she hasn't returned my calls since <jblack> That's women. <dp2> that's played <Isaac-Lew> can you tell that I'm bitter about it? <jblack> I'll trade you. My ex _won't stop_ calling <dp2> lol <jblack> For a woman that demanded a divorce, she just won't go away. <jblack> Its either my daughter's coffee, or my charming personality. <jblack> Though I don't knwo which part of "I was hoping you would get into a fatal car accident on the way over" is charming... <dp2> the hope? :) <dp2> the hope could have been, "I'd like to help you to . . ." <jblack> There's an old portuguese proverb that bad weeds don't die. <jblack> She's the... the human version of that weed next to virginia highways thats killing all the trees. <jblack> anyways.. <jblack> kramer: ping <NateDogg> re <dp2> wb <NateDogg> thanks <jblack> kramer: I'm looking at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/draft/complete/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=6, which has instructions on building a kernel on gentoo. <jblack> Which I found at google. :) <Isaac-Lew> heh <Isaac-Lew> don't get me started on women <jblack> oh? What do you think of women? <jblack> Aren't they fantastic? <Isaac-Lew> case in point - diamond came home & cooked <jblack> she's still at your place? <Isaac-Lew> & she's acting like she never said that she's leaving <dp2> she's leaving; she's trying to make the most perfectly dramatic exit <jblack> Then give the woman a flashlight and tell her its a portable spotlight <jblack> That'll ramp her up. :) <Isaac-Lew> lol <Isaac-Lew> damn, I thikn I put too much brandy in this brandy & coke <NateDogg> ill drink it ;) <dp2> yes, but if you give her the spotlight, then she'll want the floodlight. if you give her the floodlight, then she'll want a strobe-light. if you give her a strobe-light, then she'll want a lava lamp. and if you give her the lava lamp, she'll complain that you weren't listening--all she wanted was a little attention ;) <jblack> There's a place for people like that. The street. She can perform on it. <Isaac-Lew> lol <dp2> actually, Ricky Nelson sang a really funny, country song about that :) <jblack> You know you're making mistakes in life when there's striking simularities between your life and country sogns. <dp2> I don't remember the name of it, I just know that it began something like, "What do you want from me now, mama . . ." <Isaac-Lew> lol <dp2> lol <Kramer> Hey jblack. Thanks, sorry, I was away R'ing TFM. <dp2> but it's the only way you can get some friends in low places ;) <jblack> Wow. That's a novel concept. <jblack> That's a really good idea. People should try that more often! <NateDogg> im tired ... <Kramer> I usually do it until I get to a point where I'm not sure what to search for. Then I need a fellow human to employ fuzzy logic on my problem. <Kramer> I got an initrd file made. I'm testing it now. <dp2> I'm wired--and I have the munchies too <jblack> Good luck. <jblack> I think I'm going to bed. <Isaac-Lew> there's honey buns in the vending machine <Isaac-Lew> lol <Kramer> Alright, thanks for all your help. <jblack> I've got a big day of loafing ahead. <dp2> :P <Al-Ashtar> good morning all <jblack> Maybe in a little bit. <jblack> Hey there al.. W***uuup <Al-Ashtar> jblack: how are you james ? long time no see !!! <dp2> I could use a even a fraction of a loafing day :) <Al-Ashtar> waZZZZZaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap <jblack> Yeah. I've been playing a mmorts <Al-Ashtar> jblack: I'm an advanced user now :P <dp2> then I could jam on my keys for a few hours <jblack> Oh? <Al-Ashtar> http://62.150.107.86/ <jblack> phpadmin? <Al-Ashtar> MySQL , Apache , and PHP are working <Al-Ashtar> yup <Al-Ashtar> we really missed you ! <dp2> so, what are you going to do with your LAMP server?
