It comes with various proprietary pieces like firmware, nvidia drivers, etc <f4t4l`> Hmmm <f4t4l`> Would it be bead if i.... <f4t4l`> bad* <Cancel> f4t4l`: why would your hd care? <f4t4l`> Installed Linux, didnt like it, and reinstalled Windows? <Cancel> f4t4l`: why would your hd care? <jblack> f4tl: its your computer. Do what you like <f4t4l`> You dont understand <f4t4l`> I dont like my computer being fuxxored <f4t4l`> thats why im asking <f4t4l`> i dotn wanna do anything thats gonna harm it <Cancel> turning it on harms it then <f4t4l`> because im poor and cant afford a new one.. <f4t4l`> Does it? <jblack> As long as you have a legit copy of windows, you should be able to get back. <f4t4l`> ROFL, its on 24/7 <f4t4l`> But i dont... <f4t4l`> ROFL <jblack> Hoever, if you don't have one, then you're looking at a $200 bill to buy a fresh copy of xp. <f4t4l`> ROFL <f4t4l`> No need. <f4t4l`> I got a Legit key <f4t4l`> Legit/non legit <jblack> Do you still have the install media... <f4t4l`> its detected as legit though... <f4t4l`> What? <f4t4l`> :[ <Cancel> install linuxx <Cancel> do it now <f4t4l`> Now? <f4t4l`> Now now? <f4t4l`> Why? <Cancel> ok dont <f4t4l`> Im just asking why <f4t4l`> are the setups easy to comprehend? <f4t4l`> I wanna install now <f4t4l`> tell me <f4t4l`> :] <simmy> http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/77ba/ <f4t4l`> ummm? <jblack> hey simmy <hetchx> anyone, want to send mail via /bin/mail but seems it is configured to use local mta. i wonder if sendmail.postfix could be tweaked to relay mail to a remote mta server without running local postmaster? <Cancel> your local sendmail can relay <Cancel> honestly though use postfix <Cancel> using sendmail is like using a backhoe to plant lilies in your garden <jblack> hetchx: I told you a long time ago. Just get a mail client in which you can specify the smtp server. <Cancel> i always say if you cant partially understand the .mc files you shouldnt be using sendmail to begin with <jblack> Thunderbird does it, so does e... e.. that gnome one <f4t4l`> There is no Ubuntu support number? <f4t4l`> how retarded. <evil-dna> yes you are <f4t4l`> Where is it then? <hetchx> jblack: sorry, i wasnt reading <hetchx> cancel: thanks <jblack> epiphany <Cancel> hetchx: or learn to specify it with mail <ep|phany> hey jblack <jblack> Not you. The mal client <jblack> How long have you been waiting for that? <ep|phany> :| <hetchx> cancel: don't have documentation as to how sendmail.postfix be able to relay remote MTA. could you please direct me to any related website. thanks <jblack> The science channel is to science as velveeta is to cheese <Cancel> hetchx: no as I just told you that if you cant at least partially understand the sendmail config files you shouldnt be using it and I also told you sendmail is like digging for your lilies with a backhoe <hetchx> cancel, im using postfix. anyway, thanks. <Cancel> well then read the conf file <Cancel> it is commented and tells you where to put the relay server <Cancel> and if you have postfix why ask about sendmail <jblack> hetchx: Ok. You've put up with enough. Look at the relayhost option <jblack> In /etc/postfix.main.cf <jblack> Though I still suggest that you just change mua's. <hetchx> jblack: actually, here's the scenarion: i already have a working mta (postfix) server installed in a separate computer. our monitoring system, which in a separate computer, has to send an e-mail using our local mta, which i mentioned earlier, via /bin/mail. unfortunately, /bin/mail can't send e-mail from our monitoring system because there are no local mta in our monitoring system. now, what i want is to make use of any tool (MUA/MDA) that can relay/send mail <Cancel> hetchx: whats your monitoring system <hetchx> cancel, fc5 linux <Cancel> yes using any mua is nto a option as most folks using mail are doing it programaticaly which is why mail is used in the first place <Cancel> hetchx: no the montiring system ie nagios, orion, etc <hetchx> cancel: this monitoring system just reads router's logs via snmp. <jblack> hetchx: Ahh. GOtcha. How about using a port forward tool like redir? <hetchx> cancel: i really dont want to install a separate postfix server within our monitoring system, just to send system logs via e-mail. just want to save computer resources. <jblack> You could port forward 25 on localhost to port 25 on some other machine. :) <Cancel> hetchx: whats your monitoring system <sire_jokool> hi pls someone help on worm.somefool.p <hetchx> cancel: is just a linux where i put some home-made scripts that reads our cisco 2600 logs, iptables logs (from separate servers), and etc. basically, just a simple monitoring system. <Cancel> hetchx: so some homebrew thing <jblack> hetchx: Did you catch the port forwarding suggestion? <sire_jokool> spam+amavisd on log got this <hetchx> jblack: yes, i've been thinking of using port redirection, but if there's a way that we could specify MUAs to send email other the localhost MTA, then i prefer that style. <jblack> hetchx: I do that for some of my virtual farm. <Cancel> hetchx: i think you can --sendmail-options <hetchx> jblack: i'll try googling that topic. never been into that. <Cancel> hetchx: dont ask me for the syntax on that though <jblack> hetchx: Have it right here. <jblack> in /etc/inetd.conf: <hetchx> cancel: yes, i guess we could do that. <jblack> 25 stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/redir --inetd --cport 25 --caddr=TARGETHOST <hetchx> jblack: i'll look into that. <jblack> hetchx: I use that for a few virtual machines here <sire_jokool> oh correction its CLAMAV log that does it <sire_jokool> pls help me on WormFool.P <sire_jokool> mail log file always says detected Worm.Fool.P <jblack> hetchx: That'll use the mailserver on TARGETHOST to send all mail. <jblack> btw, when I say all, I really mean all. :) <hetchx> jblack: don't have that /bin/inetd.conf. you are using what linux distro? im on fc5. <jblack> The file is actually /etc/inetd.conf <sire_jokool> im on FC4 <jblack> Its a configuration file for traditional inetd. Its not a binary. <sire_jokool> so i have to romve inetd.conf <jblack> sire_jokool: I'm talking to hetchx yet. <hetchx> jblack: yes, i know that. i think i wasn't able to add inetd in my previous installation. <hetchx> jblack: by the way, what's that /usr/bin/redir? your own script? <trill> i have http services up and running.. when i go to my webpage the page just says Page Not Found. how do i change what my page says and make an actually webpage for people to look at? <hetchx> cancel: thanks for your response earlier. <Cancel> no prob <jblack> hetchx: redir is a program. Theres probably a package for you somewhere. You can look up info for it at freshmeat.net <jblack> And regarding inetd, you almost certainly have either inetd or a replacement (such as xinetd) <hetchx> jblack: yes, its xinetd. <jblack> Ok. You'll have to translate the inetd line I gave you to xinetd. <hetchx> trill: is your /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf or relative file has this line: "DirectoryIndex index.php index.html"? <trill> hold on ill see <hetchx> jblack: perhaps, i'll have to create /etc/xinetd/smtp file to store this line: "25 stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/redir --inetd --cport 25 --caddr=TARGETHOST" <trill> hetchx: is there a FIND command in pico? <jblack> No idea. I don't know xinetd's syntax <hetchx> trill: use vi instead. for me, its a lot easier than pico <trill> ok hold on <hetchx> jblack: thanks. <trill> now does vi have a FIND command for it? <trill> im in it <jblack> vi does.
