<0> but not like the free beer thing <1> i c, so have license for a year, rigth? <0> i am not novel salesman <0> but most stuff should be GPL'ed <2> Novell charges for SusE. <3> there is openSUSE if you insist on using SUSE and not paying for it <1> i c <1> i m already working with windows for few year, must learn much bout linux <1> specially bout the security <1> but i still cannot find out which the best linux at all <4> nothing from NOVELL is free <2> You dont need any fancy stuff for that. And to quote some noname " there is no best linux". <4> or bug FREE heehe
<1> lols <4> the best linux is one that runs good and SUSE runs great most of the time <1> there's no free lunch rite <5> best linux is different for every person <2> the best linux is the one that you like, i think slackware is the best, wanna start a flame war? :) <1> yes, red hat n suse is mostly heard in good performance <5> i think gentoo is best (i'm quite sure of it) <3> ubuntu rox :) <2> lon3ly_9uy: You can get whatever linux distrobution, just download something and try it i mean worst case scenario you download and install some other distrobution. <4> I have red hat at work and SUSE at home - they both work ok <1> deegan: good idea, i'll do it <6> I am biased towards Gentoo :) <1> does linux have user security like windows server to log onto? <4> linux can run smb nfs file shares <4> usually if you can dream it up, somebody has code around somewheres <1> samba can shares, but don't have such strong security <7> heh <4> ill take that snippet <7> spox You're funny :P <8> hey all! <9> ha <9> i just watched that last night too <4> NO <9> YES <9> :) <10> ... <10> lon3ly_9uy, what do you mean about Samba shares and not having security? <1> klb: not really, i found out it only can secure by allowed host/IP <1> means, someone knows IP address can breakthru it, rite? <10> what do you mean "breakthru"? <10> You can have share permissions, and you can set ACLs on the actual files <10> in fact, I run several samba servers that are members of Windows domains and have permissions just like they would if they were on a Windows share <1> what is ACLs? <10> access control list <10> like "domain users:read" "bob:read/write" etc <1> i c <1> can do so? i'll try <4> ACL? good grief <10> rocket625? <11> Hello everyone. <12> hello <13> sup <14> hi all, <14> is there a tool that i can use to open the windows compiled help .chm files in linux <5> i think KDE help opens them
<9> kchmviewer <9> for kde at least <14> thanks <12> archmage too. <9> looks like there's gnochm for gnome too <14> do i need to install them manually or they alereday there? <11> xchm also works <5> depends on the distro <5> but most probably you have to install them <9> i'm guessing probably not <15> the kernel from ubuntu edgy only boots graphical mode when fglrx modules are isntalled <15> is there any way around that? <16> Hi all <12> Hey Al! <16> hey lacroix <16> W***SSSSSSSSAP <12> My friend was in KSA, he did a car accident. He killed 7 camels. <12> It's a miracle he's still alive. <16> LOL <12> No guardrails, no fences, no security safety devices. <16> I'm happy he's OK <12> Be carefull in Kuwait. <16> usually it doesn't turn out that good <12> thank you <12> That's what they told him, when it happens it's fatal. <16> when you hit a camel on it's feet, it falls on top of the car (usually crushing who ever is inside) <12> That's exactly what happened. <12> I saw the pictures, you wouldn't believe he's still alive. <17> hi, how can i easy compile an application written in objective-c for linux? <6> I remember using something called ocaml when building mldonkey <6> maybe its that <16> I'm really happy for him <12> Hello Simple <9> gcc compiles objective-c <16> and you're right, there is no security measures for those type of things <12> Thanks Al <15> Be Right Back <16> they could at least put a sign of camel crossing <17> well, but this app uses some libraries from apple... <17> and i don't know if it will compile well... <6> Hi lacroix ! <17> it uses cocoa, and i need to port that app to something like qt, or gtk <16> **** I forgot to buy something for wife, tommorow is valentine's :/ <18> Al-Ashtar: well, go to the local toy store... :P <16> hmm <16> what should I get her ? <19> greetings. <19> I am really frustrated, been struggling for two days: I keep on getting "Warning: Unable to open an initial console" right after my kernel boots, the machine "runs" but has no login prompt (i.e. console). I have initial console on serial port compiled in the kernel. :-( <16> Greetings, Earthling! <20> well, first of all, why do you want serial console? :) <19> furrywolf, it's a headless SBC, no keyboard, no mouse, no speaker, no hard drive, you get the picture... <19> one kernel works, the latest 2.6 doesn't, and they (re)moved some config options <sob> so the whole /dev and udev setup doesn't work at boot time to find /dev/ttyS0. What *really* irritates me, is that it CAN write to the console that it CAN'T write to the console. <20> hrmm, yeah, that would be annoying. heh. <20> I can't help much there, then... never played with serial consoles. <19> oh, well, just thought I'd throw it in here ;) Thanks. <21> Myrddin maybe this helps you: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Remote-Serial-Console-HOWTO/ <19> Thanks GuAliCho. Just took a squiz, they explain up to kernel 2.5 and I'm using those exact settings in the latest 2.6. This seems to be a 2.6 issue as 2.4 worked fine (on the same hardware) <20> and I'd imagine that source code is a bit long to take a look through... <19> that is plan "b", but tomorrow being monday, deadlines for projects don't include kernel hacking (I wish) <grin> <21> did you take a look at "non-standard serial port support" in the kernel options just below Virtual Terminal option?
