<0> you forgot --initrd
<1> @@
<1> no I didn't
<1> don't do this to me
<0> oh. duh
<1> heheh
<1> I had my finger on the ctrl almost hitting the \
<1> if this works
<1> I'm buying _popeye_ beer
<2> HA
<3> hm beer
<1> this is taking along time :(
<4> how to mount a file from windows to linux
<5> heh

<5> am I here?
<6> are you?
<0> yes
<5> I'm surprised
<1> StarkiD: mkdir /mnt/WinXP && sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/hdx /mnt/WinXP
<7> Hey, I'm pretty new, and I'm running ubuntu/windows dual boot. I want to have a shared fat32 partition on which to also put my /home, but I'm formatted as such: ntfs 38GB, /boot 100MB, Ubuntu 36GB, Extented (linuxswap)1.4GB. I get the error I can only have four primary partitons when I try to shrink ntfs and make fat32 using Gparted. So the real question is... how do I safetly move my /boot?
<5> Well, that broke badly
<8> omg, I hate registered nick
<8> nicks
<5> sleep on vaios is _not_ fixed in .17
<5> also, it looks like cpufreq went away
<1> Phurbonus: Primary Partitions = (NTFS 38GB) (/boot 100MB) (Ubuntu 36GB) | Extended/Logical (SWAP 1.4GB)
<1> right ?
<7> Yup.
<1> why is it telling you that you can only have 4 while you have 3
<7> I wonder the same thing.
<1> ok fair enough
<1> something is not right in your partitioning
<1> are you sure of this information ?
<7> Fairly.. I let ubuntu auto-partition.
<1> oh
<1> ok so you had half of the hdd as free space and you let ubuntu partition it
<7> Yes.
<9> an extended partition, and any logical partitions it contains, counts as one of your four partitions.
<1> oh
<7> Okay, good, I'm not going insane.
<1> that's new to me
<1> why do you need /boot anyway ?
<1> I don't have it
<1> and I'm dual booting
<1> XP and Ubuntu
<9> the actual partition table only allows for four entries... one of them being an extended partition containing logical partitions was a workaround to this.
<7> I'm running XP and Ubuntu too. Ubuntu put the /boot there.
<7> In hindsight, I shoulda done it myself.
<9> you probably don't need /boot... mv /boot /boot2 ; umount /boot ; rmdir /boot ; delete /boot from fstab and delete the partition ; mv /boot2 /boot ; reboot (if you use grub. if you use lilo, make sure you re-run it first!)
<1> Phurbonus: nah, ubuntu's auto partitioning is ok
<6> the redpaperclip guy got his house
<7> Thank you kindly all.
<1> randyg: and by that you moved the /boot to the same partition as the os
<1> right ?
<9> I think both grub and lilo allow booting from an extended partition. :)
<9> might want to check the grub docs before rebooting after doing that to be sure, though.
<9> wait, it's not an extended partition. never mind, it will work.
<9> only swap was extended
<9> Al-Ashtar: yep.
<7> Cool, umm sorry, but where is fstab.
<9> /etc/fstab
<7> Ah, thank you.
<1> randyg: can't he run update-grub just to be sure ?
<1> ubuntu uses grub
<9> comment out (put a # before) the line for /boot
<10> om pulang dulu ngantuk om ~_~
<9> Al-Ashtar: update-grub is bad and evil and pisses me off every time I ever use it. :P
<9> update-grub is a program to automagically generate your menu.lst from the kernels it finds in /boot...
<7> It's not in fstab...
<7> Is that bad or do I just move on?
<9> which, if you have a custom menu.lst or any of your kernels need any options, is completely useless, and often completely clobbers your existing file with any work you've done to it.
<11> yay!
<9> Phurbonus: hrmm... that's.. odd. does "df" show anything for /boot?
<12> is that a linux help channel?

<1> randyg: ARCH=i386 , shouldn't it be i686 ?
<0> dunno about that. This sometimes is. ;)
<1> heh
<12> simmy can u help me with crontab?
<6> don't you love playing "dance around the question"?
<0> talt : Your question/statement is very vague. Please be more specific. If you have SHORT error messages, please post them. If someone can help you, they will. (Note: Someone isn't necessarily me.)
<0> i LOVE dancing around the question!
<1> lol
<6> someone should port echolink to linux.
<6> That would make me happy.
<12> ok
<9> plz
<13> randyg : Too lazy to type out 6 little characters, eh? We are probably too busy to help you, now!
<9> plz
<13> randyg : I was hoping you were grown up enough to not use this aol-eze crap that all these little kids were using. Looks like I was wrong.
<9> plz
<13> randyg : <sigh> plz? If you're too lazy to type out please, people will probably be too busy to help you.

<0> stop abusing the bot.
<12> Lets say I have the file blah.conf in the dir "home". When I crontab that file, how linux can understand that home/./blah/blah.conf is a exetutable command and /./ is not a directory??
<0> when you crontab that file?
<12> Sorry I meanthome/./blah blah.conf
<5> randyg: Leave for 3 days.
<12> yes
<7> Well, I'm off to reboot. Hopefully I want crash and burn....
<14> daucus_carota: do it!
<6> the file is is blah.conf in .blah... which is in /home?
<6> /home/.blah/blah.conf?
<1> simmy: one LAST question, ARCH=i386 , shouldn't it be i686 ?
<12> file is blah.conf @ /home/
<0> Al-Ashtar : Sure. But both will work.
<14> daucus_carota: http://svxlink.sf.net
<1> ok then how do I change it to be 686
<0> talt : /home/blah.conf will work just fine. ./ is to specify the path (in that case, the current directory).
<6> ancker, THANKS!
<0> you don't need to do /path/to/./file .... /path/to/file is just fine.
<14> daucus_carota: what's your call?
<6> KF4CWE
<1> how do I change the ARCH
<12> simmy thanx
<13> talt : People that can't type annoy the hell out of me. get a clue!
<1> kernel-image-2.6.17.4_10.00.Custom_i386.deb
<0> yay!
<12> vrsa what ya mean?
<1> I did it
<12> If u cant understand my typing is cos im greek...
<1> but it's 386 :(
<0> "thanks" ... you saved one whole keystroke by shortening that word. And by doing so, cheapened the sentiment.
<12> i see
<0> pet peeve of vrsa. She HATES it when people do that.
<14> daucus_carota: kc9ihx
<12> sorry vrsa i didn't mean to
<1> simmy: can I re-do this file when I change the ARCH
<1> or no need ?
<13> don't let it happen again. :D
<0> Al-Ashtar : It's fine.
<12> :D
<1> vrsa is a terrorist
<12> is she? lol
<0> Takes one to know one.
<0> ba dum psshhh
<6> ancker, K9SOA has an echolink station linked to our local repeater. I like to monitor it when I'm down here in the basement...
<1> lol simmy
<1> ok here goes nothing
<6> hm, qrz has my address wrong
<14> daucus_carota: we have a local echolink node here too...though I rarely use that repeater
<0> come on... work.... WORK.....
<6> hamcall has the wrong address too
<6> Jesus H... the friggin FCC has the wrong address
<14> daucus_carota: you need to update
