<0> but it still happen
<1> Wolverina: if its broke, its broke.
<1> Wolverina: Try filing a bug at malone
<2> how to copy files on floppy ?
<0> my computer spec: amd athlon 1,8 ram:256
<3> Wolverina, are you sure it's hung... or is it waiting on you to do something?
<0> <3> Wolverina, are you sure it's hung... or is it waiting on you to do something? << no, it' hang
<3> What happens if you let it auto-partition? Does that hang as well?
<0> because I want to patition it manually, it still scanning my machine
<3> ancker, I just did that yesterday. I feel your pain.
<1> Sure. I know. I'm going insane. That's boring.
<1> Well, its not for me.
<0> <3> What happens if you let it auto-partition? Does that hang as well? << I can't because I have windows xp and vector linux in other partition

<4> daucus_carota: mine has about 25 ./configure args...
<3> whoa
<0> I've to delete one of it if i let ubuntu partition it automaticly
<1> wolf: Why don't you give ... /me tries to remember what came before dapper....
<3> breezy
<1> warty, hoary, breezy.
<1> I always forget, because breezy was supposed to be grumpy.
<5> jblack: nice..
<4> daucus_carota: I'm configuring on a dev machine to be tarred and moved to a production machine, where it must run 100% selfcontained without root privs.
<3> It might be that your cd is bad. That's the only time I've ever had the installer hang.
<3> and I've done dozens of Ubuntu installs
<1> hoary, warty, grumpy, breeze, dapper edge.
<5> (im looking at the tool)
<6> lacroix: thanks it worked
<4> I'm also working on moving about 15 buildings into a new OSPF Area that I just created, while renumbering about 30 switches.
<1> daucus_carota: I'm wondering if the existing linux system is causing him problems.
<1> Enchanter_tim: That other thing we're talking about? sa?
<4> Not to mention the campus wide IPv6 Implementation I'm heading up....
<5> jblack: yeah.
<7> you're welcome
<1> daucus_carota: I could imagine anything from bad swap to any other mess being an edge case not tested for
<3> ancker, at least you won't get bored :)
<1> Enchanter_tim: Shall we discuss it -> ?
<0> I've try another cd, I've 5 cds
<5> jblack: yeah.
<1> man. its it normally this busy at this hour?
<4> jblack: yeah...its when I'm around the most...usually.
<1> I never realized there were so many people up during the time that the moon was a ball of fire
<3> jblack, I don't know about vector linux.. but I've done installs on machines that have other linux installs on them without problems
<8> Vector Linux = boring.
<1> daucus_carota: So have I. But I'm wonderifng if the swap partition is invalidated and its crashing on swapon.
<1> That's just a random thought
<3> one of my customers has a triple-boot machine they use to test stuff... it's had XP, Linspire, and etc
<3> hm, that's beyond anything I've seen
<0> <8> Vector Linux = boring. << man, could tell why you said it boring?
<0> because, I like it.
<8> Wolverina: it's stripped Slackware. It got some attitude, which is fun, but I think one'd be better off just doing a tiny install of something else.
<8> I just didn't like it at all. So I installed true Slackware. Which worked better for me, anyway.
<4> *cough* gentoo......
<8> But that's really like, y'know, I like the color orange and you like the color purple, probably. Different tastes.
<8> ancker: when I get new hardware! ;P
<0> yes
<0> I like slackware, too. But, I think vector is a simple slackware
<8> It is indeed.
<4> the_ruthless: heh
<8> I prefer installing and just having the KDE and it's tools, instead of Xfce or whatever. But, obviously, Vector needed basicly no hard drive space, which is good for old hardware. :D
<4> the_ruthless: Linux entropy 2.6.16.18 #2 PREEMPT Fri May 26 08:59:55 CDT 2006 ppc 7447A, altivec supported PowerMac10,1 GNU/Linux <-mac mini
<0> oh, I see
<0> I don't like kde, I prefer to use blackbox:)
<8> ancker: isn't that kinda... Strange? Why buy a Mac Mini to have Linux on it? (Does it perform good?)
<8> Wolverina: I like orange and you like purple. It'd be boring without the other. It's all good. :D
<4> the_ruthless: yeah, its pretty fast actually.....it started as an experiment, and now its my main work desktop
<0> heheeheh
<8> ancker: How much RAM does it got?
<4> 1gb
<9> :( I wanna upgrade to the newest kernel :(
<10> thanks for reminding me!
<8> ancker: and do you know how it performs compared to the new x86-Mini?
<10> when did debian switch to this pdiff crap for apt?
<4> the_ruthless: no clue....but I have a Macbook pro, 2.17, with 2gb sitting next to it....
<10> I noticed it a long time ago. But never really paid attention to it.

<11> simmy: i only noticed it about a week ago
<8> ancker: and the Mini performs past the Macbook?
<4> the_ruthless: for what I do...they're about equal....but the MacBook Pro is a MUCH faster machine
<9> you what they say
<9> once you go mac, you immediately go back
<10> heh!
<8> ancker: I was suspecting that. The MacBook SHOULD be. :D
<10> finger: reading from network: Connection reset by peer
<10> Trying 204.152.191.5...
<10> The latest stable version of the Linux kernel is: 2.6.17.4
<10> The latest prepatch for the stable Linux kernel tree is: 2.6.18-rc1
<8> Al-Ashtar: very true indeed! :D
<10> just checking something.
<9> simmy: wait for me :(
<9> I don't know how to build a kernel wait until I do
<10> I'm hesitant to try a new kernel, though... it's such a pain with vmware. :/
<9> then we'll upgrade together
<10> Al-Ashtar ; I use the debian way to do it so the distro and other apps don't bitch about it.
<10> (make-kpkg)
<9> how do you do that simmy ?
<10> do you run debian?
<9> ubuntu
<9> :P
<9> can't you tell !
<8> ...I could probably find some old G3 or perhaps G4 somewhere... And put the Linux on it...
<4> i had linux running on a G4 Titanium for a while
<8> Was it any good?
<10> 1.3G available. Heh!
<4> the_ruthless: ran better than Tiger did.
<9> how do you do that simmy ? make-kpkg
<8> ancker: actually, I don't doubt that. :D The OS X, to me, is a pain and nothing else.
<3> it's pretty :)
<10> http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-kernel.en.html
<10> http://newbiedoc.sourceforge.net/system/kernel-pkg.html
<10> Here... MUCH better.
<1> simmy -- seen the site lately?
<1> actually. never mind.
<10> jblack : I have. I was very impressed.
<4> the_ruthless: I like OSX for my laptop...on that I want things to "Just Work" tm.
<8> ancker: but the Linux one is much more stable and powerful, right?
<8> ...after all the configuration and such.
<4> the_ruthless: it depends on your point of view
<8> Raw power.
<8> And the way it handles the RAM.
<9> gimp vulnerability
<9> this just came in
<9> brb posting
<4> the_ruthless: I am 100% linux at home, and 33% linux at work. (though ALL of the systems I maintain are linux at work)
<4> the_ruthless: the other two machines I have at work are OSX. I like them for what they are...but my main machine at work is a Mac Mini running gentoo.
<9> http://dalnet.merconline.com/node/114
<8> ancker: I just recall this boring thing back in the days working with a 2x 2GHz G5 with 2.5GB RAM... Had to reboot every third day, as it had thrown all RAM overboard. Leaks or something. But these eight-nine year old x86's I work at now, can stay on forever without problems, running Linux.
<9> thanks simmy
<8> Anyway, every time someone talks about Gentoo, it sounds nicer and ***ier than before... Gotta get that distro... :D
<1> Yeah. Its worth trying. Its not very useful for production systems, but its great if you want experience on build systems.
<2> jblack, may i ask ? some thing
<10> Eh... if you're going to build packages on one box and deploy them to others... it can be very nice. But damn few people actually do that.
<8> jblack: Define "production systems" and "build systems", please. Unfamiliar with the terms.
<10> They'd rather hold up their CPUs for hours at a time.
<1> chimi: HOld on.
<10> the_ruthless : production - A system you rely on to do stuff full-time.
<2> okeiz .~
<2> m waiting :)
<1> Guys, if there any samba people around, chimi is having a problem. He doesn't understand linux well, and he's having trouble doing samba.
<8> simmy: when you go to sleep, the computer can compile stuff without anyone caring. :D
<1> He posted some information in the forum.
<3> holy cow, first post in ages
<1> Heh
<2> jblack, also the Floppy problem it cant copy files to floppy disk
<10> the_ruthless : But what if you're doing some cpu-intensive stuff at night?
<10> the_ruthless : production systems get quick, tested changes. You don't play on a production system.
<4> jblack: I just linked to the site on my blog....
<3> Chimi, have you checked out samba.org?
<1> ancker: Awesome
