<0> I know this is not a Linux topic... but I hope someone knows that answer. I've been trying to join #C, but recently it said I had to register my nick to join that channel. So I registered my nick... still can't join for the same reason. WHY???
<0> I've been in that channel for months... this never happened before
<1> identify to your nickname.
<0> I did
<0> Oh... wait, I regged it
<0> is that the same thing?
<1> no.
<1> ./nickserv identify yourp***word
<2> I joined it just fine.
<1> you need to identify to join that channel.
<2> /msg nickserv@services.dal.net identify <p***word>
<0> RuneB: Thanks
<0> but still why???
<0> Why make things more complicated then they have to be?
<1> because that's what they want, i guess.
<2> It's protection to keep potential spammers out.

<3> wget http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/iso/
<2> You might consider putting a filename on that directory name.
<4> no
<3> wget http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/iso/FC-5-i386-disc1.iso - right?
<4> yep
<2> As long as that is a valid file name, it should download it.
<3> i tyr
<3> i try wait
<4> if you download all iso's of fedora, then use wget -r
<3> wget -r wget http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/iso
<3> this is correct
<2> uh no
<3> how
<2> wget -r wget ??
<3> wget -r http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/iso
<2> That's not valid.
<3> correct
<2> That is.
<3> ok thank u
<2> Beware, that will download all files in that directory.
<2> If you are sure that is what you want then you can go ahead.
<3> i want it all
<3> how days the downloading of file?
<2> Depends on inet speed for you.
<2> Do you have high speed inet?
<3> ah ok. then how can make bootable disk... from iso file to what file..?
<3> i have 128 kbps
<2> With 128 it will take some time.
<2> all day at least.
<5> later all
<6> hello
<7> cya all
<3> it's ok the important is. i need 2 download it
<6> is there a statistic about most common distro?
<3> so how can make bootables installer from iso file
<3> i have nero burning
<2> Once you get the ISO images you'll need to burn them to disks. Is it CD or DVD images?
<3> cd.
<2> With Nero in Windows, just use the "Burn Image" item on your menu.
<2> Don't use data CD, you MUST use "Burn Image" then select your .iso file.
<3> so meaning the iso images it's automatically uncompressed to the cd?
<2> It will take the iso image and place it on the CD.
<2> It's an image, a picture.
<2> Not a compressed file.
<3> ah ok i understand thank you for u kindness
<2> The iso is a picture of a CD... you take that picture and burn it on your CD to make a copy of the original.
<2> That's why you have to make sure you use "burn image" from the menu.
<3> thnk u
<3> one question again.. what are the best disto of linux ... centos.... fedora or what..
<2> Once you are done making your CD you can open it in explorer. If you only one file on the CD then you didn't get to burn the image, but you made a data CD and it will not work.
<3> ah ok
<2> That's personal preference really. I like Slackware Linux for myself, and I like RedHat for servers.
<3> so the procedure its. 'ill use the burn images
<3> i had centos server 4.3
<3> this is a good distro
<3> or server
<2> I think CentOS is based on RHEL, right?
<3> rhel?
<2> RedHat Enterprise Linux.
<2> RedHat for server.
<3> yup

<2> It's probably okay.
<3> how about fedora.. u had any idea...
<2> I don't like Fedora because it's just the testing platform for RedHat Enterprise Linux. It's not good enough for production, in my opinion.
<3> lastime i was install fedora core 4. then i was try t0 make transparency proxy server but i cant do that. but when i was used centos. it's working for transparency proxy
<2> Try a different than Fedora.
<3> after my download fedora core 5 i'll try if its much better than fc4
<2> :)
<3> after my downloading fedora core 5 i'll try if its much better than fc4
<3> once again thank u very much
<2> Good luck.
<8> any1 using gentoo?
<3> but im very afraid
<2> If fc5 doesn't work out, try CentOS or Whitebox Linux.
<3> whitebox. im not familiar this word
<2> It's another one based from RedHat for a server.
<3> why the creator of linux it's make more version or linux
<3> fedora.. centos. gentoo or slackware. etc
<2> Linux is only a kernel. It's been redone for security and functionality and performance.
<2> Only one Linux... the distributions are just collections of software put together by groups.
<2> nursyahinr: How are you today?
<3> sorry for my lacking information about that. im a new user of linux
<2> Do you know what the kernel is?
<3> nop
<3> the kernel is utility..?
<3> of linux
<2> The kernel allows software to interact with the computer hardware.
<0> what package do I look for to install the full set of gcc man pages?
<3> can u help me to make firewall security
<2> Linux iptables firewall?
<3> yup
<2> Sure.
<3> u should giv me script
<2> Why not make your own?
<3> i dont know how to start
<8> yeah...in linux world we should be independent n aggresive finding solutions
<3> p3nguin wht im doing to stop smtp port
<2> If you don't know how to do the iptables by hand you can use a program called "firestarter."
<3> really how?
<2> To block all traffic from coming in, you need to set a default policy for the INPUT chain. It goes like this:
<2> iptables -P INPUT DROP
<9> err, is it posible to run linux without sysvinit?
<3> then
<2> Type that in on your command line as root and it will drop everything that tries to come in until you explicitly allow it.
<4> slicers xorg-7.0 run?
<9> Arkhangel, ?
<3> my iptables now it stop
<4> slicers you yesteday reemerge xorg-server and xorg?
<9> Arkhangel, that was smurfd, iam trying to make cd setup of my distro
<4> jmg. i'm so so sorry
<3> if my iptables is start - our workstation dont hav internet connection
<2> I don't understand you.
<3> can i private u p3nguin
<2> No, I prefer to talk in main channel.
<9> Arkhangel, never mind :)
<3> my current iptables is stop ..
<2> That way others can learn and help.
<4> Sp0iled configuring rule's to iptables
<4> read man
<3> Firewall is stopped.
<4> DNS?
<10> hello people
<4> hi there
<0> so I used to beable to to type "man fopen", or any other C command, and get a man page on it. But it doesn't work in ubuntu. What do I need to install to get this to work? I've already installed gcc-doc and glibc-doc.
<10> Sp0iled: maybe your iptables is doing masquerading , yet some rules is blocking usage
<8> Arkhangel...Xorg 7.0 do run :)

<3> Routermen
<0> For anyone who might care, it was manpages-dev
<2> data-man: I'm glad you share the results of your research after asking here and then finding for yourself. That makes it good for people that are trying to learn. Many people come in here and say, "I found it, thanks anyway," and then they leave. You always share your findings, and I appreciate that.
<9> DaTa-MaN, i think gcc doesnt have man pages, glibc does
