<1> i dont have gentoo
<1> i have ubentu
<2> illumination, you want to install sshd?
<3> _illumination, apt-get install ssh
<1> yup
<4> tcl-devel
<0> in fedora, can i do yum install tcl-devel?
<2> did you apt-get install openssh-server ?
<5> heh
<4> do a search 1st
<5> Simpleguy, how would I make the font size of console be smaller?
<5> on bootup
<4> yum search
<1> one sec
<0> yum search tcl-devel?

<3> WorChild, load an fb
<3> :>
<5> ctrl + alt + (-) didnt work
<4> yup
<2> WorChild, you setup a framebuffer console.
<5> Techdeck, within grub?
<3> WorChild, yeah
<3> vga=791 will set 1024x768
<5> ok, can you give me an example line?
<5> thanks
<5> ;)
<3> :>
<2> _illumination, take a look at this page, it rocks: http://users.piuha.net/martti/comp/ubuntu/install.html
<2> Ls_cd, not in here :(
<3> Ls_cd, talk to MsgMeForAKickBan, he trades bots
<2> he trades bncs only as far as I know
<5> oh damn, where is my grub.conf? (its not in /boot/grub/
<3> WorChild, /boot/grub/menu.lst
<3> :p
<5> I loaded it to the MBR, do I have to run grub again or something?
<5> oh ok ;)
<5> oh, how do you make the directories and files show up in different colours?
<5> export = ...?
<3> ls --color
<3> LS_COLORS if you want to change the colors
<5> hmmm
<3> type echo $LS_COLORS to see the current setup
<3> WorChild, and of course you can alias ls to run with colors in first place
<3> alias ls='ls --color=auto'
<5> ok
<5> I just have to run that once?
<3> once each time you login
<5> isnt there a file to put that in?
<5> ??/alias
<3> you can add it to /etc/profile if you want it to be global, or you can just add it to your .bashrc if you want it to be local
<5> ahhhh
<5> right, thanks ;)
<3> np
<3> and unless you know what you're doing, don't touch $LS_COLORS
<3> or at least use the dircolors tool for it
<3> (after reading the manual)
<6> any one has decrypt p***wd
<6> for linux
<3> Ls_cd, yeah, MsgMeForAKickBan has some
<6> he dont reply
<7> Msg him.
<6> i already msg him
<7> lies
<8> hello everybody!
<9> hi ecerybody
<5> if 791 is 1024x768, then what would it be for like 1600x1280?
<5> hi sux`
<3> I forgot the codes
<3> 791 is not just 1024x768
<5> Techdeck, ok, i will google ;)
<3> I think it runs at 16bit too
<5> oh ok

<3> yeah, google is your friend
<8> sux', Is anybody use Mandrake Linux 10.0? (sorry for my English :))
<9> am !using it
<10> Linuxoid: I use it at work
<8> during the installation I have a problem - installer doesn't find cdrom driver!
<3> Isaac-Lew, don't forget Ls_cd
<3> :P
<9> heh
<11> was surprised to find Xeon processors on our new boxes to be 64bit. What is their architecture? X86_64, IA64 ?
<10> blue_teeth: good question, I would ***ume x86_64
<2> X86_64 for Xeon Noconas
<3> thanks
<11> Isaac-Lew, luckily, I was installing SuSE Enterprise 9. Had it been Windows, 64bit port could have been the show stopper.
<12> blue_teeth: so you see, installing linux is always better
<12> :D
<11> Enchanter_tim, :). These are my SAP boxes. SLES/MaxDB.
<10> lol
<11> anyway...guess HP got their act right. Proliant DL 380 G4 servers are heck of a combination.
<10> they still don't have a 64-bit version of windows?
<7> Sure they do.
<7> All kinds of them.
<12> Isaac-Lew: they have, afaik, its IA64 based
<12> (not sure though.. i dont mess with it a lot these days
<7> XP Media Center, XP 64 bit, Server 2003 64 bit, etc
<11> I thought IA64 is not backward compatible for 32bit applications (atleast for Windows based?)
<12> that will be fire-eyes' job when he gets here :D
<7> I'm running XP media center on an AMD64 right now.
<13> I have huge troubles installing linux on a proliant 8000 server. 3 distro's freeze while initializing the installer, even with hardware probing, acpi and graphics disabled. Can anybody give me some pointers as to where to look?
<0> hey
<14> blue_teeth, older IA64's contain hardware for IA32-compatibiltiy I think. Intel recently announced they were going to scrap that though, the silicon could be used for better stuff.
<11> p3nguin, AMD is x86_64. Intel came with IA64 for Itanium (Itanic) cpus. I think this Xeon is not IA64 but something else...
<0> is it bad installing eggdrop as root but running it as another user?
<2> mescaline, its recommended you do so.
<2> Never run anything as root if it runs well as a non-priviledged user
<0> k
<0> but i was installing it as root by mistake, will i still be able to run it from another user?
<7> I know the Server 2003 64 bit will run ONLY on the Itanium. If it is installed on any other 64 bit cpu it will run in 32 bit mode.
<10> intel licensed AMD64
<14> blue_teeth, as Enchanter_tim said, it's x86_64.
<0> Simpleguy actually i did ./configure, make config and make as root, can i run make install as another user?
<10> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EM64T
<14> mescaline, only if you have write permission in the destination directories.
<8> I have a problem! At Celeron-700, 192MB RAM, LG CD-ROM SRD-8522B, SONY CD-RW CRX230ED I successfully installed Mandrake Linux 10.0 Offical Discovery, but at Athlon 64 3200+, ASUS A8N-SLI, 256MB, LG CD-ROM SRD-8522B, SONY CD-RW CRX230ED a problem appear - installer couldn't find cdrom driver! Please, help me!!! (My English is bad, I know)
<0> but i installed it in /home/mescaline
<10> mescaline: sure, however if the user does not have write permissions on the directory where you're trying to install it, there will be problems
<2> mescaline, please see #egghelp for guidance on eggdrop
<0> k
<12> DhoTjai: klaar met het dutje doen ?
<2> mescaline, if you are impatient see the --prefix flag with ./configure
<10> Linuxoid: how could the installer read the cdrom to get to the point where the install failed?
<15> jaaa =D
<15> werd wakker gebeld -.-
<11> Isaac-Lew, you are correct. The Xeon 64bit cpu's I've got is dual core. It's EMT64..not IA64 or x86_64.
<8> I don't know. Install cd-rom is bootable, but after I press <Enter> at startup screen installer wrote that additional drivers must be installed from floppy. There are cdrom drivers (SCSI)
<10> EMT64 *is* x86_64, from what I read
<10> Linuxoid: is it a SCSI cdrom drive?
<8> no
<11> isn't x86_64 only for AMD Opteron cl*** cpus? Thought it's AMD patent
<8> it is IDE (ATA, maybe PATA)
<10> blue_teeth: intel licensed the tech
<10> just because somebody has a patent, doesn't mean nobody else can use it
<14> Can an instruction set be patented?
<10> John_Dow_: evidently, yes
<10> I dunno
<14> p3nguin, apprently x64-versions of Windows exists, according to Wikipedia.
<5> i have winxp 64
<8> Could anybody solve my problem?
<11> Isaac-Lew, I see. It's important I get this sorted out before my production boxes (same as development - Proliant DL 380 G4 - 2 Xeon cpus dual core) are rolled out. I have sofware for x86 (32bit), x86_64.
<14> Linuxoid, did you try googling for your controller/cd-rom or anything similar? If your distribution tells you it can't find it it's not doing it for kicks.
<16> !!!
<8> I don't know what to find! Cdrom drivers, Linux driver, anything else....
<12> ShIzoID: english?
<8> ?:)
<11> Linuxoid, What CDROM device you've got?
