<0> p3nguin, ok
<1> That's with the ccache cleared beforehand.
<2> I need a "turn key" style live boot distro that will actaully be able to use the wireless card on this laptop, I have tried knopix, and ubuntu. anyone suggest something diffrent.
<2> 68 people and not a soul has anything to say.............
<3> You tried the two most would recommend.
<4> perhaps if you said what the wireless card is and what problems you had, perhaps somebody could suggest something?
<2> it's some intel thing, cant' really tell ATM.
<5> is there any telnet online that i can use to ping an IP?
<4> bantic: there are loads of free sites around that give you tools like that online
<6> any ping online that I can tunnel ICMP through to connect to telnet to ping ip?
<5> yeah, i knew some before... but i can't remember now
<4> perhaps google will help you remember
<5> before i ask any question in this channel, i always check google first
<3> al should be along soon
<1> After all this work, Linux 2.6 still refuses to boot up. I have switched my / and /boot to ext3 from reiserfs trying to fix the problem. It still panics and says that it cannot mount the root device, please append the proper root= option. Well, I have tried with and without root=/dev/hda5 and it still gives the same error and dies.
<1> I'm stuck on 2.4 forever!

<7> that ****s
<3> Your probably forgetting ide support of some sort.
<8> he is
<8> has to built into the kernel not as a module
<8> same with the filesystems, i think
<3> p3nguin: Take a look at initrd some day and consider sticking with kernels that come with your sytem.
<3> These days there's less of a case for building your own kernel.
<3> al-ashtar: Where are you? :)
<9> hi, newbie with *nix.. what's the command thru ssh/shell to rename a file?
<3> mv old new
<9> k
<9> thanks :)
<10> Amalina^Sister, please speak up so I know that you're a person
<10> oops
<11> INPUT HAM
<7> KB8...
<10> such an interesting channel list, too
<3> an overtly feminine nick is a dead giveaway
<10> I thought #gay and #india was an interesting combo
<6> gay people cannot be accepted into the kingdom of heaven
<10> bummer.
<10> Sounds like a place I wouldn't want to visit.
<3> poutine: Thats out of bounds.
<6> jblack, what? I can't talk about my religious beliefs but the arabs can?
<6> that's why you akicked me in the first place, for disagreeing with the quran
<3> They start spouting intolerance and they'll have the same problem.
<6> jblack, Are there any intolerable acts?
<0> genocide
<3> I'm an athiest. That leaves me as one of the few people in a postition that naturally treats all religions equally.
<10> amen jblack
<10> er
<10> Right on
<6> just because you're vehemently deny a God (which I think is highly illogical, I respect agnostics, but atheism takes more faith than christianity) doesn't mean you don't have morals
<3> Nice try at pegging me. Nice, but wrong. Regardless, the point here is you were out of bounds. Understand?
<10> heh.. I find it just as illogical that people believe some invisible man said "let there be stuff"... and stuff appeared. But that has squat to do with linux
<6> Well could I ask that you keep homo***ual topics out of here and on topic linux like you preach yourself?
<3> Dude. Knock off the trolling.
<6> nivek, because we all know science explains creation so well...
<10> You could ask...
<6> ask any scientist how we were created, they'll say, "The Big Bang", ask them what created the matter and energy to facillitate the big bang and they go silent
<3> poutine: You got anything vaguely linux related to discuss?
<6> yes
<3> What's that?
<3> wtf is his problem?
<6> Could we have such a precise system of mathematics that facillitates computing and linux if it weren't for an intelligent creator?
<3> shoo
<11> hahahaha
<10> I need to modify my client... so that +b gets translated to
<3> This channel is a beacon that guides people at night. That's the good news.
<10> * jblack sets mode +stfu on poutine
<3> The bad news is that it draws the bugs too. :|
<10> oh jblack.. about that cellular thing I was talking about a bit ago
<3> ?
<10> heh, that night a neighbor called saying they got a flyer from the cable company... last week they started trenching.
<10> We're getting digital cable and broadband.
<3> 23:05 <6> you have no right to ban me, I've been in #linux longer than you, before DrDoug even owned it
<3> Lol.
<10> -ChanServ- jblack has FOUNDER access to #linux. Reason: Identification to the founder's nickname, jblack.
<10> I'd say you have the right.

<3> He's referring to a couple years ago when I took a break for a few months.
<3> I've actually owned the channel since 1997. :)
<0> as if historical ownership is of any relevance anyway
<3> Good point.
<3> 23:07 <6> my UNIX-fu is stronger than yours
<3> If that's the case, then great! :)
<11> who can help me install god, i get an error screen from neitzsche.exe saying it's dead or something
<0> that tries to be wity but isnt.
<3> For once, rtfm
<12> im writing a shell script and i need to reverse an ip, 192.168.0 = 0.168.192
<3> The docs, as always, are out of date. ]:D
<12> any ideas?
<3> You could do it easily with perl or python.
<13> i have installed suse 10.1 and fedora core 4, but the problem is i cannot watch video mpeg, dat, mpg etc, please help..
<3> Still doable in bash by leaning on awk, but why bother?

<0> haloww, install vlc
<0> videolan
<13> i using mandrake 10.1 but i noatun cannot play any video format like mpg avi etc...

<13> sorry suse 10.1
<12> poutine rocks my sed world
<12> thanks man
<3> Bedtime
<10> yep
<3> Take care all
<15> Hi. If you have several dozen files is there any way to search for keyword?
<16> 'lo
<16> I have a weird linux question :)
<16> if I need to download an RPM (anjuta ide) do I need to find one specific to the distribution of linux that I'm using (suse 9.3) or will any RPM do?
<17> [root@melvin samba]# smbcleint -t smbfs //mis/Report /home/melvin/share -o user=Melvin
<17> -bash: smbcleint: command not found
<17> help me pls
<18> apcx: you need an RPM for your particular distro.
<18> (usually)
<17> how can i copy my files from workstation to server
<18> Sp0ileD : mount, not smbclient
<18> smbclient kind of ***umes you're using smbfs.
<18> mount -t smbfs -o user=Melvin //mis/report /home/melvin/share
<17> [root@melvin samba]# mount -t smbfs -o user=Melvin //mis/report /home/elaine/share
<17> mount: unknown filesystem type 'smbfs'
<17> didnt work it
<17> what the problem
<19> you don't have your kernel compiled with smbfs support
<17> how can do that compile what file needed to install
<19> Sp0ileD : Please check the kernel-howto that can be found at www.tldp.org. It will probably answer some of your questions. If not, when someone in the channel helps you, you will better understand what it is that you are doing.
<17> [root@melvin samba]# service smb restart
<17> Shutting down SMB services: [ OK ]
<17> Shutting down NMB services: [ OK ]
<17> Starting SMB services: [ OK ]
<17> Starting NMB services: [ OK ]
<19> what does you restarting samba have to do with anything?
<19> and PLEASE DO NOT FLOOD
<17> yes
<20> :S
<17> so i doing like this yum -y install smbfs
<17> please tell me if its correct
<17> Parsing package install arguments
<17> No Match for argument: smbfs
<17> Nothing to do
<19> I don't know. I don't touch rpm-based distros with a ten foot pole. Try googling for "fedora smbfs"
<17> my distro is fc5
<21> Sp0ileD: you have to use cifs instead of smbfs on fedora 5
<21> http://opensource.weblogsinc.com/2005/11/28/howto-use-cifs-instead-of-smbfs/
<22> Sp0ileD, cat /proc/filesystems
<23> hi
<23> anybody who knows a little about qmail ?
<24> someone must try asking aproapeom
<25> you know the stock in the crocodile hunters brand of sunscreen plummetted today
