<0> or a great sport ..like soccer <1> I'm sure there is a #politics channel if you'd like to discuss it there. <2> what's the "topic"? <3> Cognition: linux, *nix <4> ancker: we'd stop if there was to come anyone with questions. <2> hmm, i thought we can shift off as long as no one is asking linux questions and we're not violating any channel regulations <3> bah he's an op, he doesn't have to be accurate he has the brute-force advantage <5> Routermen: grocery shopping http://shleewe7.jeeran.com/Dhab%20hunt.jpg <3> .. before anyone gets upset at that comment, check my whois :)
<1> I don't mind casual conversation. But discussing politics usually leads to nastiness, which tends to scare away newcomers with questions. <4> ...thought religion was the only "no-discussion" topic here. <4> But okay. <0> Al-Ashtar: Al-Ashtar after a long chat session http://weblog.bluedonkey.org/photos/camel.jpg <3> ancker: i tend to think that this is a more than typically mature audience so perhaps we would be an exception to that tendency, but i am your guest. <2> nah, i agree, sometimes things get out of hand with these topics <5> Routermen: lol <0> lol <5> ahhh **** no <3> yeah due to misplaced p***ion + failure to recognize when you are not going to win a convert <3> perhaps. <1> I'm not questioning the maturing of you guys. But if I were knew to linux and popped in here...I sure as hell wouldn't ask a question during political flame war. <5> wiki has a page on dhab <5> LOL <5> http://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%B6%D8%A8 <3> haha <2> causality: besides, it's not supposed to be "fair" per se. If it's my channel, i do with it as i please. That's why we have the freedom to leave and join other channels or form our own <3> ideally it's not a flame war but i see your point <3> Cognition: as i said to ancker, i am his guest. <0> is dhab halal for muslim ? <6> what is dhab? gold? <3> if you've ever been to some other nets, especially undernet, the ops are cunts. there, me saying anything less affirmative than "yes sir i'll cease immediately" would get me ****listed <3> makes me picture some lil 13 year old sayin "tee hee i can kick people out!" <2> so what? it's their channel, i don't see anywhere in the server regulations where it says no unfairness! <3> Cognition: your real character shows when you can do anything you want. <3> that's my point. <0> we have the power to leave .. use it <2> Routermen: good point <2> imagine that for some time, the channel regulators are becoming really unfair and disrespectful <7> ciao.. I am off <3> besides <3> i am saying that this is a good thing and that it gets far worse in other places <2> boom, like the open source movement, a "fork" would happen and the regulars would switch to a new channel
<4> I like the ops here, though. They're great people. <8> that doesn't work for help channels, though, as the name, in users' minds, is fixed. <3> and also my experience, the best channels are run by ops who would be quickly deopped if they kicked for anything that smells like a person reason <9> we probably should try to get back on-topic for a bit... either that, or get away from the potentially volatile topics of conversation. <8> crate a #linuxfoo and see if a single user comes to it for help <3> heh well i do have something ontopic <3> i failed to set a useflag <2> i know there is a #linuxusers or something like that <3> so i get to rebuild my entire system ... again. <1> causality: why? <3> i upgraded glibc <9> causality : I"m getting ready to build up a server. mail. dns. gaming. SHould be fun. <3> and while i was at it <3> i decided to change a pile of useflags <9> ooohhhh... yeah. That'll bork things up in a hurry! <3> and the most proper way to handle that is "emerge -e system && emerge -e system && emerge -e world && emerge -e world" <3> no <3> nothing is borked <3> not even remotely <3> because i am doing it right <3> but it's taking a while :) <9> ah. good for you! :D <5> simmy: can linux be a server for locally networked game ? like counter attack and so on ? <3> and while i was changing useflags i must have accidentally left out "X" <9> me and gentoo.... we never really got along. <3> and wouldnt you know <9> Al-Ashtar : Aye... It's going to be a half-production, half-counterstrike server. :) <1> causality: I never use the X useflag... <2> Al-Ashtar: of course <5> cool <3> the system won't predict that this is a problem until after you have built 200+ out of 600+ packages and then cairo fails and the entire emerge exits with the error message "you need the X useflag set" <9> and it's not even going to be linux. It's going to be one of those BSD things with the linux compatibility libraries baked in for the HLDS support. :) <1> simmy: you blasphemer! <3> haha <3> i was going to say that <9> ancker : yeah, well.... <9> ancker : Apart from my laptop (which won't work in BSD), I don't run linux anymore. Sorry. <3> simmy: anymore? i am curious, what made you switch? <9> causality : the proverbial straw that broke Al-Ashtar's back... was back in the late 2.2 or early 2.4 days... LOTS of active development in what was supposed to be the STABLE kernel tree. And continual MAJOR issues in the kernel.... filesystem corruption, remote root exploits, etc. I was upgrading my kernel every few days. <4> If I ever kill someone, I will state that exposure to dark, depressing music like Britney Spears made me do it.
