<0> how is the situation in lebanon now.. <0> is it more peaceful :S <1> yea yea..it's stable... <0> good <1> whythehell how do u know how we drive? <2> In my first year as a postgrad, I lived on the same corridor as a Lebanese l***. <2> She explained. <1> lol <1> i see <1> whythehell was she hot? lol. <2> Not particularly, to be honest. <1> coz lebanese girls r usually hot <0> haha <2> Is Nada common Lebanese name? <0> its common russian for "get lost" <0> hehe
<1> Nada is a lebanese name yea <1> not very common though <2> Hmmm. I think her dad may now be the Minister of Justice. <1> whythehell what was her family name ?! <2> Addoum. <2> And her father was a judge, so... <1> oh no <1> that's the old minister <1> they made him resign <0> haha <1> he was accused of corrupition..n every1 protested against him and other ppl in the governmet <1> so they ended up all resigning <1> corruption* <2> On that same corridor also lived a Nigerian lawyer doing his LLM. I think what he'd have to say about that would be "What you have to realise is that this is the way that things are done." <1> it was the interracial corridor! <3> #BATAMHACKER THE BEST HACKER CHANNEL ON DALNET....!!!!!!!! <3> #BATAMHACKER THE BEST HACKER CHANNEL ON DALNET....!!!!!!!! JOIN US ..!!! U CAN BECOME HACKER AND RICH...!!!! #BATAMHACKER ..!!!!! <5> woot <4> :D <6> i dunno why dalnet don't just freeze that channel.. its a problem channel full of "leet hackers" that dont know what ssh is <4> Quite rly... <5> lol - indeed <7> hi, i'm using ubuntu linux 5.1 breezy, my question is: is it possible to compile a kernel on another faster pc instead of on a slower notebook to create kernel-image debs and kernel headers debs? if so, how do i also update /lib/modules in case the new kernel seeks it? <7> i mean the /lib/modules of the notebook. <5> Enchanter_tim: hey man - welcome back <8> hey Calidan <8> my router is breaking up <5> Enchanter_tim: you missed all the excitement :) <5> ewww <8> i did? <8> again? <8> what happened? <5> oh - just a lame m*** inviter that was killed twice by ircops, and was inviting in #help :) <5> heh <5> hey there fire-eyes <9> :) <10> does anyone know about linux RPC programming? <8> heh <8> [Lag: 12 (??)] <11> what do you want to know about rpc? <9> Enchanter_tim: email is back up, if you want to p*** that on to Remco . or don't bother, if he never knew it was down. <12> I'm rather surprised anyone still uses rpc. isn't that on the way out with the newer stuff? <9> anyone who uses nfs uses it <9> lots of active directory stuff too, i think <9> but yeah, it needs to go away, security nightmare <12> <- a linux/unix man here. not much for active directory or even nfs/samba stuff <10> asmo: I'm trying to run an rpc server which I wrote and I'm getting an error saying cannot register, connection refused <8> fire-eyes: ill tell him <8> (told him about your "little problem" <9> by the way folks do not go with ait technologies for a .org registrar. <8> fire-eyes: heh <9> Enchanter_tim: if he sent a reply or anything else going back to april 1st, it would not have reached me, is what it comes down to <9> f*cking dalnet <4> Whee! <10> asmo: would you happen to know? <12> fire-eyes: thats a light duty split (and also planned maintenance). should be back in 5 minutes <10> asmo: http://pastebin.com/644148 .. thats the code btw <13> proudhawk, so - as a linux man - what distributed filesystem do you use, afs? <9> i've messed with all of those distributed filesystems, not a single one of them is anywhere close to actually usable or stable even after years, sadly <12> nope. aoe (ata over ethernet). it doesn't bother with rpc <13> proudhawk, doesn't that only export the device? <12> I have a main box here at home with 2 TB of starage on it.... that is farmed out to me and the mates. its quite stable in the later kernels.....my only problem is getting windows to behave with it (one room mate insists on using windows) <4> ... jerk. My brother just e-mailed me to let me know it's 84 degrees and sunny there. >:( <12> John_Dow_: yeah. then you mount it like any other device in linux. :) <13> proudhawk, and what filesystem do you run on that, gfs? <12> currently, its 52 F in Phoenix Arizona under mostly sunny skies <12> John_Dow_: nope. XFS <13> proudhawk, so how does box1 know that box2 is writing to that device? <12> local file locking. its rather easy to setup. <13> I was more worried about the filesystem consistency with multiple writers on the same fs. <9> kernel would take care of that <12> XFS gives a bit of reduntancy there. its also robust enough to recover even from a hugely fragmented crash caused by a power failure <12> besides, with 4 GB on that machine in ram, some of the read/writes are buffered to increase performance <13> So aoe isn't exporting blockdevices, it exports a filesystem as a device? <12> John_Dow_: it exports the device. it is up to the local mount command to mount the filesystem contained therein <9> curious. i've had the extreme opposite of that wit xfs and power fails. i.e. filesystems unmountable, unrepairable. i'll have to try it again some day. <13> proudhawk, so two clients can mount the same filesystem, and write to it at the same time. And the kernel handles it. I just don't get which kernel, the exporting servers kernel or the kernels on the clients? <12> fire-eyes: newer versions have been using some reduntancy checks.... <12> the kernel on the exporting server handles all reads/writes. <12> the clients are just made aware of it in due course <13> Then it can't export the raw device, or the filesystem needs to be aware of the multiple writers on the client side. <9> yikes. watch your hides out there, those in the central us: http://spc.noaa.gov/ <12> fire-eyes: huh? <12> John_Dow_: I am not completely understanding how it works, but I know that it does and very well. I have had 3 folks here write multi-megabyte files at the same time with no loss of either performance or data <2> proudhawk: What filesystem are you using on the drives? <2> Oh, XFS. <12> ooops. answered yourself eh? :) <12> yeah. I find XFS a bit nicer and less of a h***le. unfortunately, suse took out jfs support in the kernel for 10+ :( <12> and thats the one I would have preferred
