<1> hi guys I wana download a debian without graphical frontend...at linuxquestions.org there are 7 cds hte first one called businesscard the second one called netinst and the rest are binary cds...which shoul i download for a functioning console based system
<2> download the full thing
<1> nooooooo.....:D........Ive got a download rate of 6kb/s......that would take till eternity
<1> furthermore i dont need all cds
<2> well then
<2> get slackware
<2> 2 cds
<2> or gentoo 1 cd
<1> on which distro is gentoo based ?
<1> or is it independent
<1> I need a debian flavour
<3> GtG
<4> hey

<4> why does my linux keep saying "cannot open display"
<4> i cant see any graphics
<5> do you mean X?
<4> yea'
<4> i dont understand, i have Xwin32 running on windows
<4> im running colinux
<5> it needs to be configured
<4> i hit xclock, and it says cannot open display
<5> that's why
<5> xclock eh
<5> so you're already in the X display?
<4> well on xwin32 my config is: session name=0, xdmcp mode =query, hostname=192.168.24.3
<4> colinux can ping any internal or external IP so iknow the networking is fine
<4> well theres nothing there on the X display
<4> any ideas
<4> ?
<5> so X is running local and you're trying to launch an app locally from within the X session but it's complaining about display?
<5> there'll be a display environment variable you might be able to change to fix it
<4> well im trying 2 run an app from colinux
<4> and xwin on my winxp is suppsoed 2 pop up rite
<4> i do, export DISPLAY=192.168.24.3, and then run the app and the error comes up
<5> DISPLAY=192.168.24.3:0
<5> try that
<6> pseudo linux
<5> i'm going out
<5> good l****
<7> anyone have any ideas why I cannot get either a r8169 or via_velocity bases 1000mbit nic working... they detect, install, config.. but never push any packaets... ON ifconfig... RX and TX sit a 0's accrost the board
<8> heya
<8> anyone here knows anythin' about perl ?
<9> ask the real question
<8> lol
<9> ok dont ask it
<8> Just wonderin' since python is the "fashionable" language at the time.
<8> anyhow, if ( $var1 = *string* ) {
<8> what's wrong here ?
<6> i thought ruby was the latest fashion
<9> ==
<9> one = is ***ignment
<9> and how about a closing }
<8> and besides that ?
<9> Rikardo: python kicks the lamas...
<9> used by google, sourceforge, ILM
<8> syntax error at (eval 33) line 23, near "* ) " I still get that.
<10> so, whats the name of the lib that we aren;tsupposedto have with linux?
<9> give me the whole iline
<9> try more like
<9> if($var1 == 'blah') {}
<9> try putting the string in there
<8> but I need something like a "isin"
<8> hence, the * usage.
<8> http://rafb.net/paste/results/ad6xd563.html <- here's that particular bit
<10> anyone know the name of that libdvd for playing dvd under Linux?
<9> well if thats perl doesnt look right
<8> why not ?
<11> playing a dvd? i thought mplayer came with all the necissary libs?
<12> libdvd
<8> forget the server->command thingies
<9> f ( $oba == "mirc" )

<8> can't be
<10> p3nguin: hmm, have a link?
<8> $oba will contain multiple words
<8> it won't be the same as mirc.
<12> google it.
<9> Rikardo: if its a string with multipe words regex it
<9> look where it keeps telling you the error is
<9> <8> syntax error at (eval 33) line 23, near "* ) " I still get that.
<9> near *
<10> I found many different kinds of libdvd
<10> such as libdvdread, libdvdcss
<10> I dont know which one would work
<8> there
<8> it loaded Cancel
<8> just don't know if it'll work, though I'll find that later on :)
<9> whats this full perl script?
<9> what is its purpose?
<9> I've largely abonded perl but still have most of it
<11> MadCow, i dont know what distro you are using but i dont recall having to do anything special. maybe you can already play dvds? try mplayer -ao alsa --fs dvd://1 -dvd-device /dev/hdd or something similar.
<12> mplayer dvd://
<11> that line always works for me.
<12> The one I listed is all a person needs if the dvd device is available.
<8> Cancel kicking the crap outta mirc users
<9> lol
<8> though perl+irssi isn't all that documented so I'm kinda flying blind.
<9> Rikardo: for what purpose?
<9> I mean why bother
<8> mere fun.
<8> :>
<11> p3nguin, i dont know why it never worked for me. i always have to do -dvd-device. so i just made an alias, now all igotta go it type dvd.
<12> irssi is well documented. Perl is well documented.
<8> irssi isn't well documented.
<12> Sure it is.
<8> you don't have even half of the vars each module implements.
<9> actually it is
<8> you have a deficit "perl scripting reference" which doesn't stand for much.
<8> the only thing useful there, are the signals.
<13> BX 0wnz irssi
<12> If you can't stay online, why not just stay offline?
<9> I'mnot into the cli clients
<9> Ilike me some xchat
<14> www.gudangvoucher.klikdisini.com
<9> well documented perl, python, tcl, ruby, javascript, lisp, c/c++ plugins
<13> if i could use xchat, i would lol
<13> pfft :)
<8> yep, perl has a load of docs
<13> they need to port xchat to mac :)
<8> I think I missed out foreach function :>
<11> natedog os x or no?
<9> NateDogg: already is
<9> its called aqua
<9> and you can just compile ityourself if you like
<9> i just installed it last week on my pearpc
<9> worked fine even the perl plugins
<13> awsome, im downloading it now
<13> yeah, osx 10.3
<13> yay!
<10> welp, i download, compiledand installed libdvdcss BUT, neither xine or kaffeine can tell its there :/
<8> ldconfig
<2> NateDogg, why not 10.4?
<6> it is not cheap
<10> Rikardo: did that
<15> is there a linux help channel
<12> craqbin: You can ask questions here and if someone wants to help they will.
<15> ok thanks
<10> yup, neither xine nor kaffeine will play them after installing libdvdcss :/
<12> Did you run ldconfig?
<10> yes
<13> yay!
<13> brb
<12> Maybe you need to recompile the programs since that is most likely a compile-time option.
<16> someone care to help me out?
<16> i have a PowerMac 5400 that's going to be a Linux webserver wtih Debian
<16> it's got a 40 GB drive and about 128 MB RAM
